Painters 11 exhibit at the Robert McGlaughlin Gallery
Just starting my adventures with oils. Once I've moved house I'll be back at it. I spend a lot of time in Ontario as a canoe guide each year, but live in the north of England, UK. I've a great affinity with the group of seven, and feel your painting style fits with that perfectly. Friend of mine is friends with Eric McConnachie - stayed with them a couple of years ago and have two of his paintings. Would also love to see your palette and mixing process.
It’s so cool to reach viewers like you all over the world with my humble little videos, thanks so much for watching.
I found your channel while doomscrolling anxiously on my feed because of my showing. You have a torment that I relate too. Be well and thank you for making this video.
Thank you
A pleasure to watch. Such simplicity used to achieve a beautiful piece of work.
Honoured to have you join in.
Sehr schön ❤
Overthinking stifles me. Unless o were a realist painter, it just doesn’t work. I try to paint with a large stream-of-consciousness approach
✨️👍
Wow, that one really works well❤
Great way to teach new painters. I really loved your style
So eine Veränderung mit jedem Pinselstrich!! Wieder sehr schön!
If you ever fancy teaching in Bradford, Yorkshire, I’m there!
I sure would love to do some workshops in the UK
They look like oil pastels am I correct
Yes. Like a kid again
Energetic colours 😁
Your voice has become the voice of my friendly Muse and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have your presence in my artistic life! Many thanks! 🙏🏻
The honour is mine. Thank you.
I enjoy watching your videos and the explanations regarding your artwork. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching
Appreciate the heart but what kind of pastel is it chalk or oil. Like the work
@@roycrowell5910 oil
Love it. It looks like a Jackson Pollock.
Pretty big compliment
One thing I don’t like about being a Canadian living in Canada is dealing with a fasclst government that has the audacity to call themselves a democracy with the same breath they use oppose freeze peach and mandate Canadian content online, which results in [word] UA-cam content being forced on me against my will. The only thing worse than the people dictating it are those who stand by and watch it happen. If you fail to recognize this today, you’ll end up watching your children pay for it tomorrow.
Why would you leave linear forms? They look just fine. The only reason to abandon that is, if you want to and are comfortable with it. Otherwise, I like the painting with linear forms.
I really appreciate your videos and your art. Best wishes from Oregon.
Thank you Oregon! 😊
Happy to have found your chanel. Not very knowledgeable about abstract landscapes. Love your sense of color, however having trouble with the water. Is it the individual viewers eye that would imagine the water starting from the middle ground and coming into the foreground to as large a shape as they view it? Thank you all the best.
I often play with conventional layout. In this case I wanted to open up the sky space to give this little piece a bigger feel. Thanks for your comment. 😊
I really like that painting. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching
Thank you. There are too many made up rules about signing ones paintings, that it teaches people to stunt part of their creativity. My first paintings were signed on the wrong side that I was comfortable with and/or right in the corner. I decided I wasn't going to spend my career signing the way everyone else said I should, and I'm so glad because now it's part of the art and a lot easier, and it's me.
Happy Birthday Mr Robert Painter! Thank you for inspiring me to get stuck into painting. I’ve got lots of supplies (is buying art supplies a different hobby from actually using them?) but was hesitant to really use them. I’m not sure I have an artistic bone in my body but I do love colours and you’ve given me the push to start messing about with them. No pressure to produce “real” art just to have fun.
Apparently from the other comments its your birthday so happy Birthday 🎈 🎂 hope all your wishes come true
Happy Birthday Robert🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
This is the second time today I've heard the term colorist, I had to look it up. I like color also but I also love light and shadows, shadows are fascinating, they tell stories.
Happy birthday
Hi Robert. Thanks for the palette and paint show.
Love maple trees ❤
Hi Robert. From Doué la Fontaine in France. Love your videos. Could you please show us what mediums you use to make your paint nice and slippery and perhaps the photos that inspire you. We love the thoughts you share with us. It’s great fun to watch your work. Thanks.
Hi Darrell, I’m delighted to have you watching from France, wonderful! I will do a video soon where I discuss my materials and palette. Be sure to subscribe so you will receive notifications. 😉
Thanks Robert. I look forward to seeing it. All the best.
I’m in Toronto! I ABSOLUTELY love your videos!
Thank you
Thx! I will defo use this.
Thanks Robert. I'm here as much for the philosophy as for the art. Well, maybe not quite as much. 🤗
Thanks for being here! 😊 don’t forget to subscribe please.
Agree about transitions. When they arrive it’s meant to be so grab the opportunity and give it a go, what’s the worse that can happen? I did wonder where you were going with the gentleman’s ashes story. Was worried you meant it literally!
Pipe/cigar smoking ashes. 😉
I love the thick juicy brush strokes! No other medium compares to oil! Thanks for sharing your work!
Hello from the Yorkshire Dales, UK. It’s wonderful to watch you paint and do your thing!
Hi from Alabama. I enjoy watching you paint . I moved south from Nova Scotia and still paint coastal scenes
Hi from Portugal. Toronto is my dream town. But, I'm afraid, is too cold for me 😱
Hi Portugal! We have a big Portuguese community in Toronto.
@@TheRobertpainter my familly is part of that community 😃
@@susanasilva2737It’s not too cold here in Toronto! during winter I normally go out in shorts, But that’s just me, It can get kinda cold.
Robert, I've never used gouache in this method before. I love how thick you applied the paint to the surface. Can I ask you what brand of gouache you're using here? I've been buying Winsor and Newton Designers for several years. It's pricey, but seems to be top quality. Thanks! Dave
Hi David, I use Windsor Newton as well. I quite like the consistency and viscosity. With paint the quality always matters.
Toll, wie immer eine wunderschöne Landschaft
Marvelous ❤🎉
Sehr schön ❤
Fantastic! I didn’t believe in that first layer. But seeing what you did with those added layers of subtle colors… WoW. That’s a master painter. The magic of oil.
Too kind but thank you
Also love your thoughts while you paint. Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a suggested color substitute for Rose Madder? Thanks.
Try mixing your normal red with azo yellow and titanium white. Let me know if you like it.
Thanks! Also a great video!
It's simply gorgeous
Beautiful Cityscape!!!
Well said I’ll think of this when I paint. Go for It!!
Absolutely thrilling & beautiful in the eye of this beholder. Very inspiring, Thank You!
👍✨️
Red Forest
Thank you Robert, lovely sunrise.
Honoured
Ein wunderschönes Bild, gut gemacht ❤
beautiful painting! I'd love to be able to paint fast like that in an impressionist/expressionist style. I keep trying, but I find it hard to get the depth of field represented and also hard to acheive the bounce of the light in sky and water
For me the key is loosening up and not trying too hard. Almost like scribbling. Just let your brush do the talking and however your painting turns out is how it is meant to be. But regular practice makes for gradual improvement. 😊
@@TheRobertpainter Thanks, I appreciate that! I will give that technique a go of loosening up and scibbling it in, and just letting the brush go 🙂
