There's just something about pushing that buttery color around the surface. Very different experience from watercolor paper "staining." I paint on gessoed cold press illustration board with water-mixable oils because I like a smoother surface than canvas.
Agree about transitions. When they arrive it’s meant to be so grab the opportunity and give it a go, what’s the worse that can happen? I did wonder where you were going with the gentleman’s ashes story. Was worried you meant it literally!
