What a mess!
If the boxes are in the store, they obviously intend to sell the merchandise at that location. Definitely seems understaffed or poorly managed.
I love ❤ Joann's.
What are your thoughts about Joann? Also, please give this video a thumbs up and thanks for watching. 😁
Another gizmo....?
Thank you, Lady! I will try these steppes! You are awesome!
I participate in a Project Linus group. We make quilts and crochet and knitted blankets that are given to children in hospitals, grief camps, foster homes and elsewhere. It’s true it takes time. Being retired is the reason I can help. I love the idea of making and giving quilt coats!
It's great you are able to do something. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I really appreciated this video. I’m going to be a vendor at the new Gilbert AZ location that’s in the works and will open up after the new year. This was really helpful to me because I also have a corner booth like yours and this helped me visualize the potential of what can be done. Thank you! Your booth looks great! ❤
I never want a computerized sewing machine
This is a seriously under-loved video. I wonder how to get it in front of the quilting community ... ?
I think its a good way to give back. I hope the coat pattern can be extremely easy to construct, such as made from rectangles.
Yes, I have seen a few Kimono styled coat patterns that are just 3 rectangles sewn together. I think any beginner would be able to do it.
The ability to pick thread color from many brands has been available on Bernina models for many years. Bigger is better if you quilt in the hoop..
I have been quilting as a child, I have been sharing the knowledge with people who wanted to learn how for past 35 years. Interest is beginning to pick up again! Hooray! ❤
Thank you! I like your idea. 💡
I think most celebrities use foreign countries.
These sawing company must be hitting the fentanyl reallyyyy hard to 🤔💬 that someone going to pay 25k for any of these fancy computer sawing machine... They've lost their f'ingggg mind like no tomorrow, have they realized how terrible the economy is starting to head towards... Just mind blowing to me.
Yes, I prefer a special edition machine. I regret not buying Bernina 570 SE Tula Pink which has a dozen unique decorative Tula Pink stitches and a USB with her exclusive embroidery designs. It was brand new but returned by a customer. $3,900 was the price. It came with Tula Pink scissors, seam ripper & rotary cutter. Full retail was $5,900. I was not crazy about the sewing machine’s needle threader.
Bernina 570 SE is much smaller and therefore lighter and easier for a woman to move.
I have a Singer SE9081 I got last Christmas and I have never gotten it to work properly. It misses entire rows, it jams and skips the hoop, and I'm in a neverending battle with thread tension. Dunno if anyone else has had the same issues or has any recommendations on fixing.
I'm sorry you got a non-working machine. Not sure how to fix this one without seeing it in motion. A gift is often so hard to exchange without a gift receipt.
I have the Solaris 2 with the latest upgrade. I will keep it for now. If I buy a newer, bigger machine, I am more attracted to the new Bernina 990. Thanks so much for doing these reviews!
I've seen the knee lever by itself sell for $90 on eBay. Even then, I'd still only pay about $50 for that one.
$90? Wow that's expensive.
I prefer the screen. Color and size will be an issue for on the wall etc.
Dime magnetic hoops are compatible with Brother machines. You just need to check Dime to see if your machine model is listed as compatible.
Sadly, these expensive machines sometimes have functions removed to add other functions added.
I do not like the many functions of the foot pedal. Cut thread etc. My juki cuts thread and quite a few times I made the mistake of cutting the thread. I can buy a separate piece to stop this function. Just rather push a button on my machine than have it in the foot pedal.
Very informative and entertaining! In all my 30 years buying and selling, I never had a bad experience with shady people. On Craig's List, eBay, Shopgoodwill, Facebook, and online retailers, I never encountered any ugliness. The only unfortunate lesson was with eBay. I bought a machine that stunk like cigarettes and was coated in a stickiness, and eBay sided with the seller. Otherwise, sewing people are nice people! Thanks again, Sheree!
leave it! over priced. maybe worth that price if it was a better brand.
That is NOTA Brent wood case it is a BENT wood case as the wood is bent over the top and down front and back the process was quite special way of getting the wood to bend and form. Try watching a video on the Bent wood🎉process. Not the Brent wood
If you do a video on where to buy machine. But then say I’m not telling where I buy my machines because you may cut me out of a deal if you get there first
I would have left it in the store.
That 66k is hot garbage, worth maybe twenty five dollars if that, the case and base after restoration is worth fifty. Couple of things I can see missing, the spool pin on top, and there should be a bent wire on the tension assembly, unless you have a workshop full of parts those are actually the difference between making something a project and donating it as it's the little bits which are hard to find. As a machine it's not bad, I'd take a wild guess at it being 1920s as 1910s would have a back clamp foot, and you could easily get it going again with a new motor and cleaning with sewing machine oil the problem is that that you can buy a near mint condition one for thirty to fifty dollars.
The knee controller is hard to find in my neck of the woods and would get a premium. For that machine, in that condition, I'd probably only do $50 or so because every knee controller I've found needed to be rehabbed. Even in pristine condition, it'd be a hard sell in my area for more than a hundred bucks.
@@Doctor_Al you know what's sad, I wrote all that about guessing the age and could have just turned my head slightly to the identical 66k behind me. Zooming in and going all Agatha Christie it's a model 66 AB859??? October 25th 1927 which makes it having one of the first knee lifters it's only interesting feature. I may be alone in not minding the winder and tension assembly though, I've wasted so so much time fiddling with the tension mechanism on these vintage machines so I can get so number says four on cotton, when it really does not matter a jot what the number says so long as the tension is correct.
Nice looking but for 100, I probably would have left it as well. I found a Singer 404 in MINT condition earlier this year. I picked it up for $60 dollars. Works like it just came off the factory floor! Even had a carrying case and all it's accessories as well.
I like both your accessory case and zip cover for your featherweight hard case. They are elegant and beautifully sewn! WOW. You could sell the pattern if that is your design. Again, beautiful.
Wow! Great idea. 💡
Good idea! I like your case and that you wrote with light ink to identify sizes of crochet hooks. Very clever to add a scrap flap.
I agree with you! $100 is way too much. The shop owner is going to learn it is only worth $10 to $29 due to the missing spool pin, electrical issues, very worn condition, and excessive weight.
Buy quality needles, like Schmetz or Organ.
I never thought of checking Habitat For Humanity for sewing machines. Good idea.
I think it will sell for closer to $18,400. There's something about the coding that's causing the delay with the machine. I will get it for the right price, and I'd trade in my POS Bernina 880+. I may also wait 2 years for the next version.
Thanks for sharing this.
So, let me relate my shopgoodwill story. I bought a dozen machines over about 10 or 12 months. 6 arrived fine, 4 arrived damaged but repairable and 2 were destroyed. The individual stores DID make it right for the damaged/destroyed machines. The key was to have their original pictures, my pics of the damage and pics of the damaged box. It helps if you can get the carrier to note the damage. They were mostly nice about it, but the disappointment, hassle and 50% failure rate made it more trouble then it was worth. So, you covered all the bases, except that super secret place where you find all those great machines!!
Sewing machine plus?.??? 😅
Thanks for watching. Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe. Are there any great shops I haven't mentioned? *Since the time of this video, Mercari has stated they will no longer be offering local delivery.
Can the stitch speed be adjusted for embroidery? My current brother embroidery machine cannot slow embroidery speed and snaps specialty threads. I spent a small fortune on reflective threads, bought different thread holders, needles etc but glitter and reflective threads still break. I need a budget machine that has the option to slow embroidery speed
Not sure. I will make note of your comment and see what I can find out about this. Thanks for asking.
This is such a good way of doing this. I was going to try just split it in half fully. But splitting the design into parts and then lining up the parts is such a better way to deal with this!
Yes!
My favorite is a Singer Slant-o-Matic 503A! It is a beauty and a beast!
Excellent video and very well rounded accurate info!!! It took me years to come to these conclusions. I sew everything from clothes, bags, canvas, upholstery and own 7 machines currently because there is no single machine that can handle the wide range of materials. I do have an expensive Brother sewing/embroidery combo machine and I know I can't service it myself and it will cost a fortune. It has some features that the other machines don't have that are convenient. But... it's plastic and computerized and eventually its going to break. I also have an industrial and use it for heavy duty work like leather, upholstery, canvas and thick layers of denim. I have come to believe that if you try to make most modern plastic domestics do everything, it will likely break. They're ok for garments and basic light to medium weight fabric sewing. Even if a machine claims to be for quilting and bags, if the gears are plastic it might not be up to the task. If someone quilts or makes bags, they are likely not the occasional sewer...that machine will get worked!!. I now use a vintage Singer 201-2 for entire quilt projects, including the binding. It handles it with ease and beautiful stitches. I have a 301A straight stitcher as my portable. I love being able to service these machines myself and they have easy access oil points to keep them lubricated, just as my industrial. I hear the 401 and Kenmore models you have is some of the best vintage machines made. I've gone from vintage to modern and back to vintage machines. They truly last a lifetime and beyond. TFS
It is wonderful that you have a wide variety of sewing machines for completing different tasks. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Can I do this on an Apple computer?
Yes.
I just got a 1970s Elna machine at Goodwill. It seems to be in good shape, but it was without a cover. I'm debating spending the $120 cleaning charge at the local sew shop and thinking I can do the basic cleaning following an online manual. It's a more basic model. Your thoughts?
If you are handy, you can accomplish the cleaning yourself with a little mineral spirits on the internal parts. Let it dry really good and then oil it and add synthetic gear grease to all the gears.
I'd take the Kenmore over the Singer. I have one almost identical to this one. It's a tank.
I definitely appreciated the speed control on my Brother when I was first learning to run a sewing machine. Mine also has a button on front to start/stop sewing, which I still use. But in the early days it was a great help, not having to focus on the foot controller while watching the then-seemingly million other things I needed to be doing. I can't wait for the "where to buy" video so I can tell about how many sewing machines I had damaged in transit from the large charity auction site.
