Ocean People Sailing
Australia
Приєднався 14 січ 2024
We are the Pattens, a family of four Australians, with a shared dream of circumnavigating the globe aboard a catamaran. After years of meticulous planning, we courageously took the leap and acquired our vessel. James now operates as a remote 'Floating CEO', balancing his responsibilities as a business coach and managing our own business ventures back home in Australia. Catherine captures our journey through her lens while simultaneously overseeing the homeschooling of our children. George and Harry, passionate about exploration like their parents, also enjoy online gaming , driving the dingy and a good water fight. As a family of new sailors we are facing challenges and learning new skills everyday. Our voyage is filled with exhilarating experiences, and we delight in sharing our adventures with you.
Sailing Portugal - From Porto to Lisbon EP 16
Join the Patten family, a lively crew of four from Australia, as we embark on a thrilling sailing journey along Portugal's picturesque Atlantic coastline.
Living aboard our 47-foot catamaran, we navigate from Porto to Lisbon, exploring hidden gems and facing unexpected challenges along the way.
Our adventure kicks off in Aveiro, where we navigate through charming canals lined with delightful restaurants, only to find ourselves in a sticky situation as the canal drains. With a little help from a local restaurateur, we narrowly escape being stranded. From savoring delicious ice cream in Aveiro to exploring the enchanting gardens of Sintra and marveling at the colorful Pena Palace, our journey is filled with unforgettable moments.
Watch as we encounter friendly dolphins, deal with toxic beach water, and enjoy the simple pleasures of a McDonald's treat for the kids. Our quest for the best ice cream in Europe continues, and so does our never-ending search for a good hardware store.
Join us for a family adventure full of excitement, learning, and heartwarming experiences. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell to stay updated with our latest voyages. Thanks for watching!

How are you doing? do you have deleted my invite? why?
Why ua-cam.com/video/Uf7cXSypUiE/v-deo.html ?
Somehow not surprisingly the family has quit and their boat is now up for sale. So many clues. Nonetheless a seemingly lovely family and best wishes to them going forward.
Sad to hear that. 🥲 But anyway, thanks for the information. 👍
You are selling your boat? That was a short trip. Hope you are doing well!
Hey, love all the videos. Why have you guys stopped the adventure I see your boat is for sale now
Hey guys where are you ? Been months since a vid post …… is everything ok ? Sorrento, GC 🇦🇺
Looks like a cool stop. The ixe cream looks good. How often so you post videos.
Absolutely Love this Model, and the layout you chose for the cabins. The room at the side of the beds makes such a big difference, and hidden storage everywhere 😂
I totally agree!
Great videos and admire your sense of adventure hoping to go bare bones sailing in Greece next year ourselves 👍
Good morning! Hope you are doing well. Haven’t seen any posts for a while, so hope all is well. ❤
Morning! Yes we’re still onboard and enjoying our time . More videos coming soon :)
I love your story. How old are kids? How can you deal with school? Here on Igor Stropnik chanal you can learn a lot how to sail with catamarn. youtube.com/@igorstropnik?si=X6sJ94h_e4lUlsaF
I noticed that Bailey is for sale. Are you giving up, buying bigger?
how do you know she is for sale?

Sad to see her for sale
Haven’t seen a new video in a while. Hope all is well!
awesone walkthrough. this vessel is perfect to you
The issue with the french neighbour you had was purely related to your ensign. I'm British, your ensign has the union flag, your spoken English to a Frenchman has an accent that is no different to mine (all Native English speakers will recognise the difference) I've travelled France a lot, unfortunately some of them are incredibly hostile to British people, even more so since Brexit. There treatment of you, your boat and your possessions even in front of your family is absolutely not a surprise to us. My parents are 70+ and we experienced far worse behaviour in Paris 2 years ago. Sport about our neighbours - the UK.
What an adventure! Canal tides + toxic beach water + unsafe transport vechicle and driver + the heat. On the flip side...dolphins swimming alongside the boat + gelato + up market with highly recommened bao bun + exploring gardens + the your boys having a spin of the soccer ball! So cool!! Great video guys!
Try taking the kids to the traditional Belems pastry shop.. Toxic tides are an increasing problem globally given the higher water temperatures, algal blooms and Eutrophication Of costal waters.
Great video, wouldn’t worry about the kids missing out on the Aquapark, the one here on the Goldy is still up and running on the Broadwater for when you eventually return 👍 Are you guys heading into the Med or across the Atlantic?
Hi I’m the oldest son you’ll have to watch to find out we’re we are going
Thanks George! Yes.. heading into the med 😜
Really enjoy seeing this area of the world thru your adventures.
Thanks for watching , Catherine
Investing in headphones so you aren't yelling over the wind and engines will be extremely helpful. All the people who have bought them on other channels say they're a "game changer" - especially if you're new to boating. Lovely video!
Thanks for the tip, Catherine
@@OceanPeopleSailing They are affectionately known as marriage savers by some sailing u tubers.. But some mobile phones now support a walkie talkie function.
Another great video and adventure for you all - well done in staying in the car held together with sellotape 😂 not sure I would be so brave - food looked amazing though 😋 looking forward to the next episode 💗
Thanks Helen x
Great job departing, a head set for communication while handling lines should go on your wish list. If you are having a warranty visit from the builder have them take a look at your engine controls as they should be a lot smoother and easier to push/pull. I chuckled at the issue with the dingy and tides as it catches seasoned mariners as well. Safe travels.
Thanks for the message, I’ll ask about our controls, just assumed that’s how they should be. Thanks, Catherine
Glad you guys are back, I would love to see more videos ❤❤❤❤❤.
Thanks definately more to come! Just had a break with family visiting, work and travelling . Looking forward to sharing more with you soon 😀Catherine
Glad you guys are back, missed you guys i am on my way to buy ice cream. Love the show.
Thanks, hope you get a really delicious icecream! Catherine
Another great vid, you’ve just got things right from day 1…perhaps you could add best pizza to the survey items?😀😇
Great idea! we've had alot of pizza now so were probably qualified for this one too lol . thanks, Catherine
Looking good! I lived in Quimper for 6 months as a teenager and it's still one of my favourite parts of the world. A note for future drone use. Always try to check out how the locals feel about them before flying. Here in Canada, you're generally not allowed to fly them over a populated area without a license or someone else's property without their permission. Europe has strict privacy laws as well.
thanks, it is such a beautiful part of the world! we don't get the drone up very much anymore..
Really enjoying your videos and love following your adventures so far. Cheers 🥂
Glad you like them!
Looks like your family is having great times ashore. Buddy traveling with Kiwi Spirit is a great decision you will never regret. Your confidence is building rapidly as I watch you motoring out of the harbour into some ground swell an not even noticing. Flip back a few months and note the change in your demeanour. Safe travels, looking forward to the next leg.
Thanks for your message. Loving having a buddy boat. Thanks for watching our videos , Catherine
Hi guys what can i say other than WOW!! You guys are doing fantastic a few battle scars but thank goodness nothing serious. Awesome film making and editing. Great sailing stay safe. Anton
Hey Anton, thanks so much, Catherine
Another great episode
thanks so much!
visit maderia the kids would love it nice easy marina in funchal ❤
Thanks for the tip, will add it to the travel wishlist, Catherine
Your littles are so cute! George trying to grow up as fast as he can & Harry with his beautiful hair is so huggable 😊
Thank you!! 😊Catherine
Your videos are really very good, having a nice mix of the reality of being a family of novice boaters, and a focus on academic information about the interesting places you visit. You can definitely recognize the creativity and professionalism you apply to making your videos. You might have a future career as a narrator of documentaries. I must say that you are a little unusual from most other sailing bloggers as they don’t have such a nice boat with all of the amenities, and I truly enjoy seeing your adventures.
Thanks for your encouraging comment! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Catherine
Nice train station in Porto, and I love that awesome bookstore. Aww, a nice and clever surprise somebody prepared. Buddy boating is surely a good thing I'd say.
Thanks for watching! Catherine
It makes me happy to watch yall❤
Thanks for watching , glad you enjoyed it, Catherine
Always love watching your adventures! Keeping it real is great, I’m learning a lot and can’t wait for for my build to be completed so I can get out there like you guys 😊
Awesome! Thank you! The wait is hard but it will be worth it, Catherine
Hello, I have been watching all your videos. It is a pleasure following your adventures. Are you planning to stop in Tenerife? Best wishes and safe travels
Not sure yet, have you sailed there? Do you recommend it?
what a great video - those lemons looked like melons when I first saw them they were massive - nice for you to have your visitors stay for a while - seems like you are all having a great time on your big adventure 💕
Thanks Helen xxx
You can see you are both getting more comfortable With the boat and your rolls it will take time. Porto is Beutiful
Thanks for watching, we were really impressed with Porto! Catherine
Hey guys, another informative video, keep up the good work 👍😎👍
Thanks 👍
You guys ok? Nothing heard for 2 weeks.
Video about to drop! Sorry, had some editing issues but battled through. It’s coming :) thanks for eagerly waiting , Catherine
The Drone locks to the GPS position while the boot moves forward. Launch it aft and it will drift away from any obstacles. While landing approach from aft as well chasing the boot.
Sounds good, Thanks for the tip 😉
Launch it from your hand
Thanks for the tip ☺️
Ooohhh lol I'll be trying it for the first time next month. Not so worried about take off but landing while moving will be interesting 🤔 1. Learn to launch and return to from your hand 2.turn off the collision avoidance sensors
Launching and returning from your hand.. is that how everyone cuts up their hands. Will have to try though 😉
@@OceanPeopleSailing there are some good YT videos on it
Thanks
Nerve racking.
Yes but at least we still have the drone and it didn’t end up in the water!
@@OceanPeopleSailing yes!
OMG practise makes perfect -hopefully 😉
Fingers crossed 🤞
I’d practice on dry land first
Thanks, Yes we’ve got that pretty good now :)
