    Was extremely busy last weekend but finally found time to catch up. Great analysis on Kristin and its very obvious you, like most people, have a ton of respect for her and are just trying to learn from the best! I can understand how you might have been a little disappointed with the results but on the other hand, if you keep in mind how recent you started puzzling compared to some people doing puzzles their whole life, you might actually be one of the best puzzlers out there!

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia День тому

      Well I wouldn’t try to learn from someone I have no respect for. She is crazy good. 😃 Thanks for the comment! I think I’m more annoyed that I can’t figure out any factors or circumstances what made me tripping up. One practice I understand but the whole week was going places. 😃 I may not be the fastest speed puzzler but I’m not hunky-dory when my analyzing isn’t working because that I excel at.

    I remember Karen from Karen puzzles trying to race her after the worlds championship in Spain was over and Kristin won. Her and Alejandro brought their parents to worlds and did amazing. I think the secret to win is to bring you parents😂okay, all seriousness, they have a way of processing images and hand coordination that is pretty cool.

    Thanks for sharing your experience! I was thinking the anime puzzles were a little strange, but not a bad choice as not as many people would have done them. But sounds like quite a few people had done them anyway. (I do enjoy watching My Hero Academia, but haven't seen the other!)

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia 3 дні тому

      This is exactly what I was thinking first too. Odd choice - like Christmas puzzles off-season, or like TV-show puzzles are rarely seen on competitions. And then I was sure that no one have done these as I don’t even remember seeing these but I was wrong with that! I will need to expand my collection with these kind of puzzles now. 😊

    Emilia, i think you did the math wrong. One Minute has 60 seconds, makes 8:47 min = 527 sec. 527 divided by 150 equals 3.593333 ppm. , right? Whichis still great, Alejandro did 100 pieces in about 5:40 min. with Karen. You are close 😮😅 - Don’t worry, i do a lot of math mistakes, too.

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia 4 дні тому

      Hi! That’s not right. For PPM (Pieces for Minute) you have to divide the piece count with minutes. Now you divided seconds with piece count. If you want to count it with seconds, you can, but you have do it the other way around and divide piece count with seconds AND then also multiply with 60 (to make you seconds to match minutes again as the measure is PPM). That’s ≈ 17. 8.47 mins = 527 secs PPM = Pieces / Minute 150pcs / 527secs ≈ 0.28 PPS PPS = Pieces / Second PPS to PPM = PPS x 60 0.28 x 60 ≈ 17

      Thank you. She is so crazy skilled. I was watching yesterday also Spanish Nationals and even though I kinda knew Alejandro does it too, now I see clearly that it’s seems to be the common detominator. Their finger movement looks a bit different (Kristin’s is smaller and more subtle) but what/how they are doing it seems the same.

    In last nights Euro Jigsaw Jam by Speed Puzzle Europe the host Michelle kept Kristin and Alejandro on the screen the whole time (while also showing other competitors two by two) so if someone wants to themselves study how the current top two in the world work, this is a wonderful opportunity!

      Thank you so much Riikka for this comment and recommendation for all! I went to watch a short clip of this now too and it also shows how e.g. Kristin AMAZINGLY keeps turning the pieces as I mentioned here. For me it’s literally mesmerizing to watch. It’s truly a great opportunity to be able to watch this closely how the best puzzlers do it and then also learn from it!!! 😊

    • @hobbitnotes
      @hobbitnotes 6 днів тому

      Yes! If someone doesn't want to watch the whole competition stream, you can see pretty well Kristin working like you describe when the competition has been going on for about 14 minutes. 😊

    I would like to advise you not to criticise other puzzlers esp best ones every body tries different places and 50 to 60 percentage to put correctly at first attempt is still incredibly good

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia 6 днів тому

      Hi! Can I ask you what words did you take as criticising? I especially said that she is amazingly skilled and these numbers (you also mention as ingredibly good) are great? I said that that this strategy is amazing and differs how other people do it. And that this is how we should try to do it. Most puzzlers don’t really go non-stop, more looking at the pieces and only trying once. Maybe my English wasn’t clear (or I will check if YT got automatic subtitles wrong)? 😊 My only point with the ”misconception” was that as we want to learn from the best we really need to know how are they doing it so we won’t try to replicate something we think they do instead of their real strategy. Also when I say someone doesn’t even blink means that they have incredible confidence. I now checked this with Google and couldn’t find any other meaning for this that could be taken a negative way. And I also said specifically said that this doesn’t mean that she is not as good as we thought just in case someone is not familiar with speed puzzling and thinks those numbers are slow.

    Interesting to see how you got on at the competitions. From what you were saying, it seems that some of the tables were rather small. I have done the Trendy puzzle and it is not as easy as you may think. No idea how long I took as I didn't time myself. They certainly didn't mind using old puzzles. I remember doing the Happy Days at Work series many years ago. The Secretary one came out in 2014.

      After having the Panda puzzle in the Finnish Nationals and super small table in the Danish Nationals, I feel like I’m ready for anything in WJPC 2024 so bring it on 😃 And yes, that one is super old. I couldn’t even find a store that would sell it anymore.

    Definitely mark off the table when you do the pairs final table and do it in the same space. Makes a huge difference! Even your space for the 500 puzzles looked bigger than what was given for the individuals. Not saying it adds a difference of like 10 min or anything, but would slow you down some if you used the same size and had to share the space. I saw that some people's pieces got mixed in with their table mates on accident. Great times all around!

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia 10 днів тому

      Yes. When I practice for WJPC (not filming) I use their table measurements. And also a lower table because it’s a ”bit” different for back pain (practice). Not sure what are the exact measurements in US Nationals? It’s quite impossible to create the same circumstances. As you said, space can affect. For me, it’s almost fine nowadays with any space. Just came back from Danish Nationals and we had the smallest table space ever, barely 60x70cm for a pair. But it was fine for me. I learned my lesson last year in WJPC to manage any space. Also ofc the competition itself affects, I’m usually faster when I compete against people in real-time. Also the light in my house is different than in most competition venues. Light is a major factor for me. Space not so much. Time of the day when doing a puzzle, noises around… so many things. Depends also on a person what factors affect and how much. E.g. if you have never done a puzzle on smaller space you may be screwed but if you have practiced that it may not really differ at all. My pair does puzzles on her bathroom FLOOR but she is still as fast on that compared to doing on a table.
