  • This is my experience video from the very first Finnish Jigsaw Puzzle Championship. I must say that it was an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to the end and not only because of the adrenaline from speed puzzling.

    Well done Amelia! Not just for being pairs champion, but for not giving up 30 seconds into the individual!!

    congrats on the win!
    i completely see where you’re coming from, you had a lot of things going against you. but i also think you’re being way too hard on yourself.
    considering only 9 people finished and that it was such a difficult puzzle, i think you did great. add in the multiple table issues and the lighting issues and them attempting to fix it mid competition…wow. it’s impressive that you were able to finish on time.
    not knocking the difficulty level at all, but i was half expecting you to pull out a krypt puzzle. or solid color. that one is close enough to solid though

      Thank you. I appreciate your comment. I think I'm a bit less hard on myself compared to how it seems to others. I'm just that type of personality to give tough love to not only myself but others too. I was actually quite proud that I didn't feel like I gave up towards the end (like I did last year in WJPC pairs final). And I think that after this you can give me any puzzle in a competition and I will be just fine. Okay... maybe not those Krypts or solid color puzzles you mentioned. This was just a bad fit, solid color would have been a practical joke from someone. :D

    Congratulations again!
    Everyone finished the pairs puzzle within 2 hours. Which I think was really lovely. ❤️

      Thank you! 😊 And that's awesome news, I wasn't exactly sure if that was the case but I remember it looked like everyone will finish. And thank you also for offering your table to us!

    another great video! Congrats on the win! I am American so we obviously do not use the metric system like that (SHAMEFUL I know) but as someone who also enjoys DIY and stuff like that, I can confirm that 50x70 is in fact the size of MOST 1000 piece puzzles! I believe White Mountain puzzles are slightly larger.
    Fun fact: it is also the size of Ravensburger's completed 300 and 500 large format pieces. Hope that information proves useful to at least somebody ♥

    Out of pure random feeling i actually did (and i just learned about it afterwards) the archeologist desk puzzle on Saturday. Had it lying around for quite a while. What a fun coincidence...
    I did feel very pity for all the participants seeing the panda....!

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia  Місяць тому +1

      Cool! How did you like the puzzle? I love it like I love all Aimee Stewart puzzles. Ofc that’s jjust my opinion of the puzzle itself. I still think it wasn’t right choice for the sports because it was published one.

  • @smaranda235

    Is it possible they switched the puzzles by mistake? The one for pairs would have been great for individuals and viceversa..

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia  Місяць тому +1

      I actually do agree with this (don't really believe it was a mistake but it would have made sense). The pairs puzzle would have brought the excitement and intensity that makes speed puzzling so fun to watch on the individual round. And the panda bear would have not been that bad for pairs and also somehow "easy" to split the areas with a pair.

    • @jotain2860
      @jotain2860 Місяць тому +1

      There were 51 pairs registered and about 80 individuals. I think there wasn’t enough puzzles to switch the puzzles. Panda puzzle wouldn’t have been good in a pairs competition either.

    Oh dear, Pandas are cute 🐼 but as a jigsaw for a speed puzzle....... That was not a good choice as a puzzle for the individual round. Who actually chooses the puzzles, the organisers or the sponsors? Congratulations on winning the pairs session. 👍 You didn't say so but I assume there was just the one round each for the individual and pairs. You would have thought that the organisers would have made sure the tables were in good condition and stable. Hopefully lessons will have been learned ready for next time. Look forward to your next video.

      Oh yes, good question on something I didn't explain well... only one round for each category. Hopefully next year there will be two, at least for the individual category. And the puzzles choices... this is something I speculated after the WJPC because to me it looked like Federation let the sponsor choose... unfortunately I never got confirmation on this and I said I'm afraid if that's the case then there will be huge problems because puzzle choosing is part of the SPORTS that sponsors are not liable/responsible for. Now after this panda-gate I have seen some comments online and for association representatives that they have indeed let the sponsor choose. As you said, I hope this lesson is also now finally learned why organizers should do the choosing. Then if Ravensburger doesn't give options (which is perfectly fine because as a marketing business owner I know most sponsorships are not profitable for businesses) then we can just look for other sponsors - there are plenty of puzzle brands. :)

      Thank you. And thanks for the information. I double-checked this with support and apparently joining through app works for Android users! I’ll clarify this in new content. 😊

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia  Місяць тому +1

      Never again. I have seen and experienced it all now so I’m ready for any puzzle in the future. 😄 And they still should stop using published puzzles (even though if we like them) because it’s bad for the sports.

      @@puzzlewithemilia I completely agree! We were spoiled with all new ones for the USA nationals, even for the preliminary rounds! I hope they start a trend where Ravensburger works with more nationals competitions (at least for "finals" or where there is only one round). Though it sounds like USAJPA was working with the USA Ravensburger team, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

    It’s not appropriate choice definitely

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia  Місяць тому +1

      This is exactly what I was afraid about after the WJPC that Federations/Associations themselves are not doing the choices of puzzles. I hope we all learned now that the associations need to be the ones who choose the puzzles and not delegate that to sponsors (whose job is to run their business, not be responsible for the sports of our associations).

  • @Laura.jigsaw_journey
    @Laura.jigsaw_journey Місяць тому +1

    The Panda puzzle sure was an uninspiring image but at least was a good puzzle brand😊🧩the couples puzzle was pretty. It was released at worlds in Spain. I think it would be better to use puzzles that have never been published before like they did at the USA nationals🧩❤️

    • @puzzlewithemilia
      @puzzlewithemilia  Місяць тому +2

      Yes. The issue is that federation and associations should do puzzle choices themselves and a big NO for published puzzles. That’s the core of the problem even though people only seem to be pissed about the panda puzzle (probably even I seem like that, as said I’m biased because I won with the pairs puzzle) even though actually both of these were somehow faulty choices if we consider the fairness of the sports. 😊
