The Crap Car Collective
United Kingdom
Приєднався 18 кві 2022
We are a group of classic car owners, who tend to only buy the crap cars that others forget about. We are currently restoring a rare Morris Marina GT, but in the past we have restored dozens of cars. We currently own around 45 cars between the three of us.

We buy Ant Ansteads Alfa from Born Mechanic. What did we find?
Переглядів 31 тис.День тому
Matts brother, Jim bought an Alfasud from auction. It was renovated by Ant Anstead for his show Born Mechanic. But when he got it, it wouldn't drive. Why was this? What did we find? Edit: Thanks for all the comments about the Russian steel. I made the mistake of taking what I found on the Internet as correct. So please, no more comments about it. Many thanks to Ant and his team for making sure ...

I bought a 1965 Ford Galaxie sight unseen. Last time we got it running on brake cleaner. This time we try and get it running properly, and take a closer look at it and see just how bad it is. I also need a name for this project, so if you have any suggestions, leave it in the comments below. We are having a small meet up on 23rd November 2024 If you want to come, it's at the old Britvic Factory...

My 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 was bought sight unseen from Facebook. It was believed to have been abandoned for 20 years before being imported to the UK. Will we get it running? Do you want to see more of the restoration? Let us know in the comments. Here are some of the channels that I can blame for me buying an American car, sight unseen and trying to get it running. @JunkyardDigs, @PoleBarnGarage...

We finish scraping the underseal and start the floor repairs | Part 16
Переглядів 13 тис.3 місяці тому
The last few weeks has been hard work, chipping away at the underseal to reveal the rot that needs to be repaired. There is more than we thought, but we hope to fly through it. Matt has also thrown a spanner in the works by wanting to fit an overdrive gearbox from an MGB. It's not a straight forward swap. What is wrong with our new E30 325i Touring.

We bought this MOT'd BMW 325i Touring from a salvage auction. It still has a bit of MOT left, so Matt wants to put it into daily service. But what is needed to get the car though the next MOT? Lets take a look. Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): uppbeat.io
We fit the original engine back into this 1960 Ford Prefect 30 years after it was removed.
Переглядів 18 тис.4 місяці тому
Simon bought this 1960 Ford Prefect in 2022 from its first owner. He has known the car a long time. The original engine burned a valve and Simon sold the owner the engine that is now in it. When he bought the car, it came with the original engine, so Simon had it rebuilt by Lockside Engineering, and it's time to re-fit it. This Prefect has also appeared in a few episodes of Heartbeat. When you could reach in behind the front wing and get your finger up into the A post alongside the screen (long arms required) without any form of weatherproofing or metal in between, it's little wonder these cars rotted like no tomorrow! The tinworms ruined what was otherwise a quite revolutionary car! I loved driving Suds and briefly had a terminally rotten SprintTii of my own, which I scrapped when it became apparent that all that was holding the front end on, was the gearshift and the bonnet catch! I also had a 66 Guilietta 1300 4door that would leave all my mate's souped up Escorts in the weeds, yet was bog stock! I loved that too, but the worms killed it, it had a fresh and not necessarily completely honest MOT on it when I bought it, A year later it would need too much welding to make it worth saving. That was in the late 70s, nowadays I'd repair it in a heartbeat! Russian steel my a*se! It was just non existent rot protection and designed in rust traps that killed them! BTW, whose idea was it to GLUE the dizzy cap back together? Too cheap to buy a new one?
The dizzy cap got broken earlier in the day. We wanted to get it running so we could make sure the clutch was working. We have a new cap on its way.
That guy is jealous the one who keeps talking shit
That guy who said the car is a pile of shiite i would have come back your a pile of shiite man
Speak to Matt @ NMD Design in Brigg about stickers 👍
Cheers! Will do.
Glad to see work on the Marina progressing. I did appreciate the subtitles. Made it much clearer to confirm what was being said. 🤔 Also watching Matt’s paint work drying made fascinating viewing……….
I appreciate the work you do. But I'm not so sure about the cleanliness of your engine rebuild. I look at my debris on my gloves/hands before doing anything with an engine and gearbox assembly. Starting to wirebrushing things from corrosion in halfway assembly is new to me. Hope you don't blame BL qaulity if the engine failes rappidly on you...
Was the 12H Metro block in the car originally or was the original motor no good and this was found for it? Shouldn't it be an 1800 B series? But she is certainly starting to look the part now.
Thank you 😊
I had a GLSi cavalier just like that. When the sensors worked it was an awesome car. Replaced it though with an E200 Mercedes which didn't have sensor issues.
Always a laugh and an education for us non mechanical/panel beating Noddies!. On ya lads!.
Brilliant enjoyable video as always. Nice to see progress with the Marina and Matts usual banter in the background!
Cheers Paul! Now and again I'd just like to turn up to car club and get on with stuff without being a dickhead all the time, but Mikey won't let me 😢 Don't forget you're always welcome to come over on a Thursday night for the crack 😅 And check out Si's progress on the 1300GT
I am a bit miffed with a certain Yorkshire tea company for stopping making the toast n jam tea boo to them :( Its that bad I am going to bend the ear off of YT's brand ambassador who happens to live local down here a Mr Bean and might send a nagging email to Cap Picard about it all...
my 87 year old father in law worked at cowley on the marina line,he said they had 4 guys to fit the seats morris then decided to use 3,so they fitted the seats and through a handfull of bolts in with them because they said they didnt have time to fit them lol.i worked for honda in swindon that didnt happen there
moist action, GRinding action, spraying action, thought id tuned into wrong channel , mint!!!!
Dammit, I read the Yorkshire "realspeak" by accident and now have broken out in type 3 flatcaps and wurpets and keep going "eee" at the cats and announcing randomly about trouble down mill...
Put wood int oil.
It's "down't mill". Clearly an incomer 🙄😆
Great video mate - happy to see my Cavalier is famous - it was shocking weather but the Cavalier was outstanding, 480 miles round trip and 40 MPG. Brilliant to meet up with you and we will definitely be back for the next meet
Nice to meet you both. Glad you got back safely. See you at the next one!
Once you’ve finished the marina, you should lay your jig over a map and do a road trip in the car to all of the places.
Great content guy's 👌 glad to see the Marina getting some more specialist work done ✔ 👏 And happy belated birthday Matt. 😊
Thank you!
Ian Tyrrells classic work shop. Or Marina goodness. Yep Marina goodness 1st.
Yeah, his latest video is about an E type…..so common….😆
@peterriggall8409 There not an advert where they BL compair a Marina to an Etype. I seam to remember HubNut mention that in a Marina road test. Crazy connections. Yep front suspension like an E Type limpet like handling. Looooooove the DS
AT LAST GUYS LOL
Fair credit to you all , the weather is shite, it gets dark early, and you are still grafting, the Marina is coming along nicely, and upsetting the Escort owners
Finally....a translation...I have been watching with the sound off!"
Best way.
🎶We’re Only Making Jigs With Simon🎶
I'm sure i saw one of those jigs in Lidil. Is Simon cheating o you and making loads of them in his back garden sweatshop!😂😂
Ive just spent £350 on loads of bits for the engine. Head gasket, clutch stuff, whole new ignition setup, various bits and bobs to build the engine up and mate to the MGB gearbox. Hopefully before Chrimbo we'll have the tunnel chopped to fit 😅. Very excited!!!!
electronic ignition by any chance Matt ?.
@@mrcogginsgarage7062 yes, a full system is so cheap
You're doing a fantastic job of this car, as always 👏 I subbed to this channel when I noticed this car at the beginning.. and can't understand why there's not More likes and subscribers 😕 🤷♂️👌 Keep up the good work lads👏 😊
Who’s Chrimbo?
Nice one guys, thanks for the subtitles in the early portion, I reckon I could be fluent Yorkshire in no time.
The Marina is back !
Great to see you back on the old Marina really looking forward to seeing the next one👍👍👍👍👍
Great to see progress lads, love the clock! Does that mean end of wheel trim cruelty 😂 Cheers Russ
We kept forgetting to abuse it.

I love this series brings back lots of memories of the one I had way back in the 80s
I like the subtitles😆
jobs a good un
Many years ago a friend of mine asked me to store his Alpha Sud in my large shed. A few weeks later he said he would sell it to me for 15 teen pounds. Like a fool I said yes without looking at it. Then I found the dreaded tin worm . I welded one side then the other then across the back and then found the front was falling off ! Did that as well. It turned out the best car I had ever driven a lot better than my Ford XR2. Sold it for £500 before any more rust appeared !
I went from an 850 Mini estate to one of these. Went like stink and the cornering was unbelievable, only problem was on damp mornings it wouldn’t start.
Please - don’t add this banal music to your videos. People want to hear you not rubbish tunes.
Watching from the U.S. first of all you guys look like tons of fun to hang out with. Also, it’s insane the level of rust on that Rover. Did the Royal Navy recover it from the North Sea?!
Thank you. What you see is what it's like whether the cameras are rolling or not. I have missed filming so many funny moments. It is a bit rotten. Was way worse than it looked.
Great video guys. With brilliant northern sense of humour. 'Crap Car Collective' really sums up this horrendous 'Itie' rust heap..
Thank you!
Get it running then rev the nuts off it until it fixes itself.
Those flat four engines in the ti were notorious for cylinder wear and big end knocking. Like all boxer engines on starting, they ran without oil for a few seconds on starting.
RUST on Italian cars, Back in 70s 80s Steel they used was Produced From recycled Metal, Not Virgin Steel.
Nothing wrong with recycled steel if it's processed to remove contaminants. From looking at the way the steel in my Beta pitted it was obviously badly contaminated. I sold some good Beta panels to a guy whose granddad was an MOD metallurgist IIRC and he examined a sample and he had never seen steel that bad.
You paid for the mechanics of an Alfa back then, they threw the bodywork in for free ! In the 80's they would be delivered new to the dealerships and need to be re-spayed for sale. I kid you not 😢
....... why bother!
Why bother commenting!?
The front wings of my dad's Marina were equally as bad as the nearside wing.
The car i had the most fun with was a second hand low milage T reg 1.5 ti , burnt off all my contemporaries at the time 😊 who had XR2s and 3s and 2ltr capris. Handled like it was on rails. Loved the twin carb exhaust note. Realdrivers car it just fell apart and rusted away in front of me. Lol
I had to give my 1.5 ti a proud pat on the dash after it took out my mates, 'quickest thing on the road', xr3. I've no doubt it would have left it for dead in the corners too! Lovely little cars, before they dissolved!
All cars rusted like crazy in the 1970s,the Alfasud would be the World Champion. A mate of mine loved them for grass-track banger racing (non-contact). At the time we had a BL 1.8 Marina. That was shite, literally. As though the paint colour was matched to a filled babies nappy. The factory was also on strike about every 3 weeks. The Marina only gave trouble because there were no inner mudguards in the front wings, so the headlamp shells rusted away. The engine never gave problems.
Look at our other videos if you want to see a rusty Marina!
The Marina could have been far better, but BL were in deep doo-doo and there were design compromises. The prop-shaft was supposed to be two-peice. The Marine was supposed to be a successor to the old Moggie... Except that Minor owners stripped the running gear from Marinas as an upgrade.
@@NJPurlingour propshaft is 2 piece. Although we are fitting an MGB gearbox and a 1 piece propshaft. My mate won't let me fit a V6, boo
rule of thumb is that where rust is concerned you can only see 10% , given that and the interior condition , mechanical faults and the fact it's an Alfa , maybe worth maybe 500
