Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra REVIEW // 700km+ and I've made up my mind
Ups and downs, ins and outs. Life is a ride - just gotta hold on. These shoes are simultaneously amazizing and a death trap. Hopefully they sort it for the second iteration because they have so much potential. Until then though, I think my time with these shoes are done.

Quailty race in a quality place. Definitely wasn't the perfect race, but the more I do this the more I realise how rarely that happens. I dug in a pushed hard all day. Need a 2000km review!
Need 2000km in them first.
Love the zips!!! Great video, thanks for sharing, wishing you the best with your running in 2025.
Haha thanks. So many pockets for a weekend away!
5:20 damn, crazy how your accent went full texas ranger for the rep count, pardner
Hahah. Wild what the body does after such extreme athleticism.
Really love this video, I've been scouring UA-cam for something that hit right and this was it, so thanks so much Luke! I'm gonna run an ultra VERY soon
Ah so good! Glad you found it useful. Good luck in your ultra!
Dawg you have WEAK ASS ankles. This is not a stability shoe. I bet you can’t even do a pistol squat because the stabilizer muscles in your lower leg are so underdeveloped. Roche played D1 football in leather cleats. His ankles are probably as thick as your calves.
Woah, calm yourself down now dawg. Although Roche with ankles as thick as my calves? Now that’s funny.
I concur with your assessment! great underfoor feel, quite unstable. What trailshoes have the same kind of bounce and feel but a lot more stable? brooks Catamount 3? Norda 005, Salomon Genesis (Slab?)
Norda 005 is where all my hopes and dreams lie at the moment!
I picked the standard terrex speed and the midsole is wonderful. I cannot imagine what the rocker+ plate feel on technical terrain. I just dont like the plastic upper. and crappy heel.
I like the upper and heel! It’s a weird shoe though that’s for sure.
Such a fun shoe but I can only take it in small doses. My rubber ankles have saved me numerous times 🤞🏼
My ankles have become quite good at tolerating rolls over the years, but it seems one too many tipped them over the edge 😂.
Luke. Cool to see your review. I worked with /// on the shoes. As you mentioned we tried to create a special, new and somehow addicting feeling. Saying that they ride a thin edge (creating them we tested wider midfoot and flatter versions - but they lost the magic feeling ... somehow too stable will feel slow). And as a lot of the things that feel new and addicting you should use them in small doses :). Some points that can increase the range in my experience: use of some wider laces will increase lockdown and stability quite a bit.
Woah! Cool. Lockdown wasn’t an issue for me. The Roche ankle taping method felt too extravagant too. Absolutely an interesting shoe that I’m keen to see the next iteration of though. 🙏
@@lukewbarrett I am not with /// anymore. But from what I've heard and seen the next version will be even more extreme. Which is good for pushing athletes potential. But I think there is also work done on something thats more capable in technical terrain for normal folks. Anyway as said I think a lot of people can have fun with the current one if used in moderation! And still try the laces, it makes a difference for me also in terms of stability (just more surface area). Keep the vids coming! Nik
Thanks Nik! Cool insights. Keen to see where the trail running shoe space heads in the next few years. The ASU feels a little too ‘high risk high reward’ for me right now, but for sure will try some different laces. Thanks! 🤙
Vibram Five fingers are great for stability
Right up there with crocs
I was waiting for this review from you, also really hope your ankle will get better soon. Really sounds like I should not buy these shoes as I’ve had troubles with ankle twists before. Or then I’ll just buy them for fast gravel road running.
If you can justify a fast gravel specific shoe in the rotation then for sure this is top of the list.
Truly an ankle breaker, different sports joke 😂
Haha. Break a leg 🙄
Couldn't agree more about this shoe. You summarized my same feelings perfectly. Any shoes on the horizon you're excited to try??
Norda 005 top of the hit list right now.
I feel the same way about these shoes and hope the Prodigio Pro can solve my problem, doesn’t feel quite as fast but still fast and is sooo much more stable. In the end it doesn’t matter how fast the shoes feel when you don’t get to the finish line.
Exactly! Shoes that last the distance for sure take priority. I just wish they were a little more stable!
Great review, thank you. I couldn't agree more. I started running in them late last summer, had a foot problem I couldn't get rid of, so as a last resort changed shoes, I was a big Hoka fan, and bought the Speed Ultra's. On the first run, after 3 months, the pain went I couldn't believe it. I was amazed and fell in love instantly. Then in October I turned my ankle badly and have just got back running properly. In the back of my mind was the question, 'would I have had the injury if I'd been wearing Hoka's?'. However, I just can't stop running in them, even in the snow and icy woods we have right now. I'm hoping it doesn't happen again but think that you may be right and I will have to look elsewhere. Cheers 👍
So good on trails that don’t warrant trail shoes. Maybe road shoes are the best option all along 🤔
Need to run more! good stuff mate, hope the ankle heals quick.
Thanks Nico. Turns out bikes are pretty fun too though!
The knowledge you have to impart is absolutely worth hearing, the background music adds nothing to your video, sorry to be that person.
Thanks for the honesty. Honestly the music gonna stay though!
Agree. Jingles suck in videos. Makes it a commercial. Just lame.
Love your content!, big fan!, so humble, so down to earth. Love it!, hope you have a fabulous 2025 of races
Thanks so much! Kind words. I hope your 2025 is great too!
Something about the eyelets in all shoes are awful nowadays. The Saucony Perigrins did the same ...... thing. Lol
>2000km deep in Nordas now and can confirm all eyelets are in tact.
How are these for wide feet?
They feel slightly wider than most shoes, but not on the same level as Altra etc. Might be worth trying them on somewhere if you’re not sure!
Beer mile, now on my 2025 calendar
‘A’ race
Hi Luke, thanks for the review. I tried on a pair in London last week - and they felt great. I am not a trail runner - or any form of runner anymore. Spinal Cord Injury (bike accident) has meant walking is challenging (compromised strength and proprioception). I typically just wear Brook Glycerines as often as I can for cushioning. I was looking for a shoe that might help me walk on trails, ice, and wet pavement more securely. What is you sense of the suitability of this vibram sole across surfaces other than trails?
Vibram is the gold standard of grip (IMO). I know that Norda make a version with graphite spikes specifically for grip on ice - they might be worth looking at. Otherwise the regular vibram megagrip is excellent on both dry and wet trails and pavement. Hope that helps!
How do you like those Terrex shoes? I’ve been thinking about getting them for dirt road running
Dirt roads they are incredible. As soon as it gets technical they’re pretty unstable though. They just feel like they want to run fast.
Im glad there you spoke of the importance of strength training. I find when im consistently adding heavy loaded single leg squats it makes running up a steep ass hill that much easier
For sure! Strong is never bad. Injury prevention has to be the biggest benefit for me though.
A really healthy wholesome update, keep on running 🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏿♂️🏃🏿♀️👍
Thanks mate. Keep running is the plan!
Love the update. 🤙🏻
Thanks Cam! Hope you’re good. 👍
haha I saw that cheeky pancake 😂 Happy New Year dude. Stoked for more Luke content in 2025, you keep me inspired to get after it out there!

Stu! Haha yeah for sure man. I was toast if you had a kick. 😂
Good luck at B2H, classic mountain race, you'll love it for sure.
Thanks mate! So stoked when I saw it back on the calendar last year. A classic!
Got to like a varied race calendar. Cheers. Looking forward to following you for another year's activity on the trails
Actually super keen to run some new races this year. Let gooooo! 🚀🚀🚀
Loved the cinematography in this one Luke. I'm also a runner from Australia - Just subscribed and looking forward to following your journey mate!
Cheers mate!
Happy New Year to you and the family, mate. Love myself a good beer mile. Hope all the goals planned for 2025 are smashed.
Thanks so much man! 🙏 I hope your 2025 is stellar too.
@lukewbarrett first Ultra this year. Can't wait. You've inspired me to build up to Milers!
Looks epic
Seeing is believing!
Where was that lovely accommodation?
Literally 200m from the main GPT event hub in Halls Gap!
Hey good video Luke! I’m a middle of the pack runner and I enjoy long distance running half marathons and full marathons but I feel like 26.2 is my limit. My question is if I want to run a full marathon just to finish strong and at moderate pace 925-945 ish do you think it’s ok to train for a road race marathon like a ultra marathoner trains? I’m not good when it comes to speed work running below 8 and 750 paces my body starts breaking down when I go to fast. Do you think it’s ok if I just train for distance 4 times week and should I try get my long runs up 23-24 miles at east pace to prepare for long durations of marathon? I’ve hit wall last 2 at mile 18 and I want to avoid wall marathon. I also enjoy strength training squats deadlifts bench press. I know I will never run sub 3 or sub 250 but I would be happy with 350 marathons. I just run for health and to finish distances strong
Thanks mate! Sounds like you have a good plan! In short, yes, I think training for ultras is very similar to a road marathon. It’s really just the specificity of terrain that differs. I hear that you don’t like speedwork (neither do I!), but incorporating even a little bit will help immensely. Most of all just make sure you’re enjoying it though!
Love the low stack height. Solid Review
Thanks mate. Solid shoe!
I felt like I teleported to the Grampians & was floating on a cloud then boom ‘hooley dooley’ haha great vid mate!
Hahaha thanks mate. Gotta keep the people guessing!
Incred! Gotta get down there. 😮
It’s actually even better than it looks! Do it.
Why would one run this when u can walk it to appreciate the natural beauty😅
To be fair, even for those that ‘run’ this race, there is a lot of bloody walking 😂
Beautiful edit Luke 👌
Thanks mate, appreciate it. 🙏
The best one yet Luke 👌🏻
Ah man, thanks so much!
Just signed up for the 2025. I am going to need all the help I can get. Download the GPX file and like you I guess just training on the actual course. Any other training tips would be super appreciated!
So good! Such a good race. Unfortunately no more secret tips though. Just plenty of time for consistent training between now and then. Good luck!
"Relentlessly technical" is the perfect description of this amazing trail irrespective of the weather. Great video Luke 👏
I think I’d suppressed how hard it actually is. Kind eye opening being back and seeing how rough it is again!
What a weekend! That heat was something else. Great work with the drone, some epic shots
Thanks mate! Yeah the heat was intense. Full respect for anyone who set out in those conditions. 🫡
Beautiful video. Didn’t even know Aus had mountains. Drone footage is *chef’s kiss*.
🤌
Nervous-poop Sara must be thrilled about the shout-out 😂
Haha she’s always pretty good for a bodily function TMI 😂
Imagine having a partner who publicises all your greatest achievements, like the Roche’s. Can’t imagine what that feels like 😂
What do you mean by "you used to max out at 60g of carbs an hour"? Do you mean that you couldn't consume more without feeling sick?
Precisely! Without measured and incremental limit pushing, that’s about all I could stomach.
From where is the shot at 0:18? Looks like a dream place to run.
Right?!?!! That’s the first climb out of Courmayeur on the CCC course - Tete de la Tronche. 😍
Step one: Get dumped the day before. Step two: Decide you are carrying 70 pounds of firefighter gear on your ultra. Step three: Be called a legend by the announcer. Step four: Have a croud cheer when you chug the whole beer offered at the finish line. Step five: Totally forget you just got dumped.
Woah! Sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Onto bigger and better things! 💪
Ripper story well told, GSER is an awesome event - always! 2nd place all round wish I had a bad run like that!
Haha thanks man. Turns out the day wasn’t going as bad as I thought it was!
