Kevin put Gary Richrath in his grave. Kicked him out of the band he formed. I understand his issues. But Gary was REO.

Where did you get the idea Bruce was going to sit? He stands just fine and has performed post-surgery with Neal Doughty. Kevin's criticism was that Bruce wasn't standing straight enough. Well, KC, Dave Amato has not been standing up straight for a few years either. Ya'll are old... REO fans are there for the music, not a wild performance.

Kevin tried to force Bruce Hall out of the Band, and when that didn't work he pulled the plug on REO. Kevin has had voice issues for years, but the band stood by him. Apparently he couldn't return the favor and thought his spin would control public opinion... and found out fans wanted Bruce and not his BS. Kevin's legacy is now being known as a selfish ass who pulled the plug one of the best 70s classic rock bands...

The lead guitarist of X plays while sitting ever since he had a heart attack many years ago. His playing is unaffected. X plays clubs for the most part. There's more to this than him merely sitting on a stool. Having said that, Billy Zoom's role in X is more significant than Bruce's in REO. Just my opinion.

I'm not suggesting you are taking sides. The point I was trying to make is Bruce is at 100% and standing straight. If you look at his post on the Bruce Hall page there is a picture of him in April in Orlando after his surgery where he joined the band on stage for a few songs. He looked and played amazing. This is Kevin wanting to own REO which Bruce won't give up his share. Good for him. All in all its a very sad situation. Was not trying to diss your podcast, just giving an additional fact. Bruce is ready to go. We are all heartbroken as I know you are a fan too and obviously saddened by this news.

Fair enough, it's very easy to misread tone in a UA-cam comment. I think we agree that KC is to blame for ending the band, which is major letdown for fans. That's on him. But I can't say for sure that I believe Bruce is actually at 100% (not that it really matters). The official statement from the band mention that Bruce "respected" the opinion that he wasn't *fully* recovered, which leaves me to think there is *something* to this issue. I would guess there's something about his posture or condition that KC really does have an objection to. But still, this could easily be solved by the band simply taking a well-deserved year off. Say no tour in 2025 and re-connect in 2026 and see where everyone's at. Very disappointing that they won't give a chance for cooler heads to prevail.

@@PlayThatPodcast honestly I think that Bruce’s voice is worse than his posture. Last time I saw them with him he was way off key on background vocals. You could hear his voice just not fitting in. I’m sure that’s some of what Kevin is complaining about but probably doesn’t want to make it public. Bruce was also saying he was taking voice lessons so that tells me that he thought he had to work on his voice or someone did. I think it’s still messed up to kick him out and end the band over this but oh well 😢

As sad as this news is to hear, I’m really not surprised. There’s a reason why it’s called the music business, because while there is music, ultimately the emphasis is on the business part. What I do appreciate about this analysis of the situation is what you brought up about Bruce not being able to be fired because of the partnership. This is actually the crux of what happened between Don Felder and the rest of the Eagles when he started his lawsuits. He was a partner in the Eagles in their business, and Henley and Frey were cutting him out of the “Selected Works” box set. Read his book, “Heaven and Hell,” and you’ll get more of what was actually happening. If you ask me, however, I think it really is the time for REO to hang it up. Kevin‘s voice has been shot since at least 1996, to the point where it pains me to hear anything from the band over the last few decades. Just listen to his guest spot on “American Idol.”

    • @PlayThatPodcast
      @PlayThatPodcast 22 години тому

I've read Heaven and Hell-- Felder's story is very eye-opening into the intricacies of the music business. And ownership of the band name is huge -- just look at Journey. I'm sure Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain would love to fire each other, but they don't have the ability to do it. So instead they take each other to court, slam each other in the press... and then perform alongside each other on stage! Very odd, but they don't want to give up the golden goose. I guess KC didn't think REO was worth that headache.

Like you, I love REO, my favorite band, seen them 20 times or so starting in 1984 to 2 months ago in St. Louis. Screw Kevin Cronin. Maybe Kevin should blame himself for being complacent and hasn't released anything in years. So don't be the crap at 72 or so that all of sudden you have a new outlook. Give me a flippin break. I'm hopeful REO will go on without Cronin...and don't let him back in. Bring on a much younger singer and create some new stuff, still REO sound.

There has never been conversation about Bruce sitting on a chair. They said his posture wasn't good enough. Bruce played a few songs a couple of months ago when they played in Florida after his surgery. He was standing. Cronin wants to keep the new guy and not allow Bruce back in the band he's been in for 50 years. That's the real story. Please get the facts straight. Bruce does not have to perform from a chair. There has been plenty of backlash and support for Bruce. REO is not faceless. Any REO fan knows the members and their faces. Go watch the Kevin Cronin band in 2025.

    • @PlayThatPodcast

I think you must have cut off the video early. I am much more critical of KC than Bruce. But I will say that the photo Bruce posted to show everybody he was "ready to go" is of him sitting on a stool. And like you said, there are issues with his posture. So what's the difference? Either he's on a stool, or standing but hunched over...? This is missing the forest for the trees. It' doesn't matter -- the point is that he's not 100%. All I'm saying is that I can understand (but not necessarily agree with) KC's perspective of not wanting Bruce back until he's 100%. And that's a very mild "defense" of KC, so I don't know why you're commenting as if I'm taking his side in this. I'm clearly not. I blame KC for blowing up the band.

I appreciate the compliment (?) and you tuning in, but I must say -- I'm don't know if the last part of your comment really squares with the first thing you said. One of the reasons I like Bill Maher is that he's been saying to his audience (including at this show), "You can hate Trump, but you can't hate half the country. I don't, and I don't want to." I agree with that sentiment 100%. We need to stop seeing people with different political views as enemies. Like Dave Mason says, "There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy... we just disagree".

@@PlayThatPodcast Maher is okay. Note I used the word "other". Other than Maher (who is not so warm and fuzzy with Libs and with California politician cuckooness), and you (if you call yourself a Lib), practically every other Liberal is on attack mode. "You can't come in to the hospital. You hate poor people. You don't know what it's like to be in debt so how can you understand why I don't want to pay it off" and so forth. You never hear Conservatives go on the attack, except in retaliation. So the point is that I do admire your good natured attitude and even jesting about it in what I felt is true good fun rather than sarcasm or eye rolling. You got the "like" for NOT being like the rest :)

@@Bill_Woo Well again, thanks for the like and for watching. I wish both sides would reel in their "attacks" as that stuff doesn't solve any problems. But that's almost all you're going to find online. Everybody is yelling at everybody else in comments sections and there's just too much anger. You might not believe it, but I don't think I'm a rarity. Most liberal-leaning people I know don't like attacking others over politics. Same goes for most conservative people I know. It's just that online discourse often brings out the worst in people... so I'm making an extra effort to keep away from that if I cover anything "political" here.

@@PlayThatPodcast Well you are handling that well. Purely constructive observation, you might be a bit too wordy for many attention spans. Then again, that may effectively work in your favor as a filter to refine viewers to only those with enthusiasm and detailed attention spans ;) You even joked about the long lead up, and jested about people hanging around to the end. Dig it. (That was 'Can You Dig It?' by Georgie Wood! and now we'd like to do, 'Hark, the Angels Come')

The more that i read and hear about The Cars the more i realize that Ric O. wanted the spot light all to himself and was not willing to share it with Ben. That is such a shame sinse Benjamin Orr was there with him from the beginning, and also had such an incredible voice. Truth of the matter is that Benjamin was the Rock Star of this band❤

She was lip syncing on stage many times to Grace Slick’s vocals. The whole thing is disingenuous to the audience
