    The shaft of the spear was about the height of a man, it was made thick and strong enough to be able to catch an attacking animal on the spear, resting the end of the shaft on the ground. Your shaft is too thin in my opinion. There are no complaints about the work with metal.

    maybe could have saved some time just welding the spear head to the socket instead of riveting , nice job though .

    Cool concept. Why did you try and harden mild steel…. For a door knock no less. Doesn’t make a lick of sense even if you are the fist person in history the harden mild steel. Watched the whole thing but couldn’t get past it. Also you did a extra heat cycle with the rivet… cool design though. Keep it up. Maybe make some tongs next.

    Nice to see someone using basic tools...instead of a 2 x 72 belt grinder that hardly anyone can afford to own. My idea is to make a friction version of the Artisan Cutlery Osprey cleaver using 5/32 inch (4 mm) O-1,as an experimental survival folder.

    HELP i put a big spring in the fire i stretched it out and hamered it flat i cut off a piece and put it in the fire then quenched it in cooking fat it was a little bent so i hit it with a hamer it broke now i thould have put it in the oven for to normalize?

    • @tiltd8376
      @tiltd8376 3 роки тому

      Hey Mate, When you quench hardening steels, it pretty much becomes glass (hence the break) you need to temper the blade after to make it stronger. For spring steel I normally temper blade at 225 degrees Celsius for 2 hours. Now Im not an expert by any means so don’t take anything I say as law, but the way I fix a bend after quenching is I just heat it back up let it cool down and re-quench it. Hope this helps
