Just a sleep-deprived engineering student who likes making things...and "intentionally" crashing sometimes
It's not progress if you're not crashing | Hummingbird V3.1 Race Spec Edition Review
Watch my descent into madness in this video
Something that I've noticed the past few years is the growing positive trend in the whoop racing class - a push towards getting the lightest high performance setup. I remember seeing people like @MrShutterBug years ago building the lightest 65s and 75s, but now we also see companies release BNFs with these weight-saving mods already incorporated.
I genuinely think that the Hummingbird V3.1 Race Spec edition is a solid competitor for the title of "Best Racing Whoop BNF". It ticks all my personal boxes of how tinywhoops performs - but that low weight of 16.5g just makes it so much more maneuverable than other racingcentric BNFs out there. Additionally, I think its even more impressive that there are still many mods to do including using lighter PEEK screws, applying some betaflight changes from @ChrisRosser 's video on the Hummingbird RS, and, if you're struggling with the camera angle, a change in the TPU canopy.
A big thank you for @NewBeeDrones for sending the Race Spec for review! It's been something that I've had the pleasure of flying for the past month and I honestly really love how it flies - especially outdoors. Check out my YT shorts if you guys want too see more flight footage as I got lots of clean uncut lines with this that I am "a little" proud of XD.
Side note: if you want to see more bloopers, I will be posting a few more in my Instagram XD. There was....weirdly....a lot of nonsense XD
Another side note: I was playing around with editing this time so you don't see the separation between the different parts of the video. Let's see if you guys prefer that more.

Though it's been 4 years since I did anything related to filmmaking, I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to go back to it - especially with new equipment and a fresh perspective. I've tried a number of micro-sized cinewhoops during the course of 2024 and I can confidently say that the XI20 Pro from @oddityrc_official is definitely one of the best setups that I've had the pleasure to ...

Probably got this before but it's 19 bucks for shipping! Is there a way to get it in the uk for less or an option to buy they dxf files for self machining? Can you send me one 😉? I really would like to use this frame because Betafpv is... Fragile.
dude it's 50+ going to the Philippines XD you can get the new Hachidorii XS68 and XS60 from Quadview Germany. Also, there's a thingiverse link in the description for the V2 in the other video
@im_ricebowl thanks so much man! Ikr shipping is crazzzyyyy!!!
if it's hard to fly in a room it means it can fly outside. the higher kv motors cut through the wind a lot better.
hmmm I'd assume that's only in ideal conditions when the wind is the same direction as thrust. Small motors will struggle with wind that's going against it's thrust direction
@ oh yeah I mean light winds. A breeze is a gust to a whoop for sure. It’s no 5”. I recently made a build with 32,500kv and took it outside during somewhat heavier winds and by golly it actually flew. All of the lower kv motors I tried before were unflyable in the same winds. I can’t fly it inside. Maybe I got lucky with the motors but I did notice a big difference flying it outside.
@@WindChillFPV I'll agree to that XD I think having higher KV kinda helps a motor keep up with winds. Though, you can always add a throttle limit and play around with throttle expo when flying indoors. That's why I do the "fly under the car" test cause these high kv motors make throttle so sensitive
@ I could but I rarely fly inside. It was more of an experiment with extra parts. I’m more of a 75mm guy but after trying out these motors I’m rethinking it. Never would have thought 65mm could even fly outside. Saw you ripping your yard with this and bumping into stuff inside. It just felt familiar. Might throttle limit a tad bit anyway. 32,500kv is insane. Keep on ripping, sir. Always awesome content! 🤙
@WindChillFPV I gotta try those higher KV stuff too soon. Even at 30000kv, I feel like I gotta expo it XD. Maybe I'm not as skilled as some of you guys. Thanks for watching and the support my guy! this whole thing is like a dream of mine XD so definitely!
flew 4 or 5 packs and already messed mine up lol. If you're flying in the yard and the grass is somewhat tall dont try to turtle the drone over. I'm pretty sure I fried the ESC doing that. whoops.... lol
I'd honestly say that's just a normal thing for whoops. never turtle mode in grass XD. I think even if the escs were 12a, they'd still burn out. Also, grass usually is moist so that probably also contributed. hope it was a fun 5 packs tho XD thanks for watching!
The camera is actually pretty good, but the newbee drone osd makes it worse that it is. Try the camera on another quad and see what you think.
just checked it out and yeah! pretty good actually. I'd still say not as good as the c03 but definitely a lot more usable than using the v3.1 aio. very interesting. will make an updated post and pinned comment soon about it thanks man!
@@im_ricebowl Credit goes to Heads @infinityloops hes the one that let me know.
Nice flying! What tinywhoop would you recommend to someone new to them?
thanks man! I highly suggest betafpv's air65/75 or their meteor 75 pro. I am recommending analog over digital as it's not fun worrying about replacing a vtx and camera that is worth a whole analog drone XD. And less weight generally gives a better experience. the air 65 is the best for indoors and is honestly really fun to fly even outdoors. however, you may want to play around with the throttle mid and expo to have better throttle control the air75 is generally what I give people who want to fly both indoors and outdoors. it's not the best in either but it'll handle both well - just need a little extra effort and skill when flying indoors. similarly, play around with throttle expo and mid. the meteor 75 pro is the one with the most controllability out of the three. when I say controllability, it's like it just goes the to the direction you point it to go to. Like it's on rails. it's also the tankiest so no need to worry about breaking stuff. however, it is big, it is the heaviest, and it is prettyyyyy calm compared to how punch the air 65 or 75 are. would honestly recommend this only if you fly outdoors. there's videos about this on my channel if you want more indepth commentary around them!
@im_ricebowl thank you!!!
@crechr no problem man! have fun!
This video was literally funnier than a try not to laugh video-KAACK😂😂😂
I'm glad my humor is coming across 😂 I swear, that was just a result of me doing an all nighter and deciding "it would be really funny to try to record before I sleep" 😂
Flown mine for a little under a month, and am very impressed actually. The tune out of the box is great. Yes the camera leaves you wanting more but the tune and speed makes up for it. Newbeedrone customer support is pretty good aswell.
I also like how it flies and even after a month of testing, it still is performing pretty great. actually just checked - placed the camera on an air75 and it looks significantly better (but not better than the c03). Something about nbd's aio not having an osd chip making it look like that. thanks for sharing your experience man!
Unfixable motors when wire is broken at the base..... At least for normal people with normal equipment. Osd chip is still bugging around and proprietary software. No thanks.
osd is probably the single most common comment here XD and I'll agree to that. actually connected the camera to a different aio and it looked alot better. actually, now I'm thinking what if you just cut the wires short and solder on normal silicon wires XD. no pcb at the motor side but still usable
"Wanna see something? , Its my Kaack" - Rice_bowl
someday I gotta make a "ricebowl out of context" video 😂
@@im_ricebowl i would love to see it man great content!
That do be a fast quad
it do be pretty fun!
@ I imagine
I totally would have bought one and flown it for Racegow3 but it came out too late
give it a try man! honestly really like the tune on this and even more so after doing some of Chris's changes. now I gotta practice powelooping a spinning fan 🤔
@ haha yah moving targets are tough. I like flying analog but HATE editing it so I’ve been grabbing walksnail and splitcam builds every chance I get. So it seems like a cool quad but I have no desire or need to fly it. Haha it is really cheap though… maybe I get it and add a split cam to it. It’d be about the same weight as the original mob6
@@Shauny_D speaking of that actually, I remember you mentioning you fly HD 65 on a 2s right? what kind of build have you been using lately? ngl, might be better to go with the betafpv air g4 to pair with a split camera 🤔 seems like several issues with the hummingbirds v3.1 aio based on the other comments
@@im_ricebowl yah I agree that new Betafpv FC with better bec. I love my 2 board builds in the 75mm 1s setup. FC and HD or Splitcam dvr board with 0802 25000kv motors. I can't beat that setup. Looks like the DJI 04 lite is just 1 gram heavier than the walksnail and splitcam. Well 2 grams over walksnail after pulling that crazy heatsink off. Yes i do have a couple 2s 65mm one analog and one splitcam hd. I have the parts ready for a walksnail version but haven't taken the time to build yet. Tried 75pro too but it sucked. That 75mm is perfect for it.
Do NOT translate "kack" in Luxembourgish
I just searched it up 😂 I think it's ironic using that to bleep out some of the curse words here 😂
One thing to keep in mind is that the escs are NOT 12a. NBD is doing their classic stuff by using the same 4.5a fets (sia517dj) as everyone else but calling it a 12a esc.
Is this for real?! The good old EEWs that I buy in at least strips of 100 because they generally last less than 100 packs of my type of flying before their resistances go haywire and kill flight performance, or just downright burn out??? Nice. I generally don't use NBD AIOs because of the OSD, and don't do repairs on them. But damn.
@@xer125 mannnnmn I actually was gonna add that in my review but couldn't get a definitive answer from anyone. Saw comments in other reviewer videos but....sucks man. I'll pin a comment in the morning. thanks for bringing this up!
@@lemonsquareFPV yep eews, same here for nbd, the proprietary osd means relying on nbd for bf updates (an example of why this is bad is rn the v3.1 rs aio isn’t updated to a version of bf with some dynamic idle fixes for whoops) Good thing about the 5a fets is when they do go out they go quietly and don’t take the board with them unlike real 12a fets that often destroy the copper under them.
@@xer125 Thank you for the info. I have been running nightly builds on all my Betaflight stuff over the past few years, and have had much less issues than the official releases. So I don't like proprietary for this reason. And yes, over the probably around 1000 EEWs that I have swapped, for myself and others, over the years. All have been internal failures and there has never been board/copper damage, at all. Thankfully almost all the manufacturer's AIO designs, except BetaFPV, make swaps ridiculously quick and easy. But honestly even having to work on both sides of the board, remove and reinstall new plugs, and work around stupidly placed tiny components is still sub 10 minutes to swap all the MOSFETS. So while annoying, it's not bad.
AYY NEW UPLOAD!!! (Allow me a frame)
Fr tho I need a hachidorii v2 for my air75. That frame is broken in like 7 different places and is all out of stock (plus it's my only working quad)
YEAH BABYY need to Speedrun some videos XD might get busy with thesis and some projects (hahidorii compilation and documentation) soon
I heard that betafpv frames break so easily in cold weather XD had that issue too when I went to the US. Give the V2 a try! pair it up with some mob 7 v2 ducts or 3d printed ones
Sounds good!
Mine has pinch camera is 15.6g and awesome for racing
KAACK is for racing, we use with pro spec and other spec races with RPM limiting
The main issue with this drone is there is no OSD chip on the FC, they use a special firmware to add on the OSD and that limits your ability to adjust vtx channel and power from LUA script. you have to use usb or osd VTX menu.
I use the bribrian tbell lifted 3d print at 40 degree cam angle
The motor wires snap off, and then you have to solder a ever shorter enameled wire. its a PAIN at the race to do
NBD had an issue with their early batch of the lite af frame, making them more fragile, so many have an incorrect assessment
Love your videos man.. I'm super new to fpv and got my analog fatshark HD3 based on what you have haha.. I just pulled the trigger on the Sub250 Nimble65 after using Cetus X for the past few months. I was considering this Humming Bird RS but after seeing a few other reviews I realised it's for more experienced beginners lol.. and you pretty just confirmed that.. keep up the great work my friend 👍🏽
@@JoelSilva-gk4hq Thank you for supporting it man! happy to see people still flying analog especially on these tiny drones XD. Great choices btw for your first drones - was eying the Nimble65 too but never got the chance to try it but liked what it was going for. yeah even I struggled with this one XD very fast and it's target demographic is really for racers XD or people who have the space. for just outdoor or house flying , would you recommend meteor 75 or air 75? light freestyle not hardcore mattyflips
@@jkpisces I think either is fine. the 75 pro has a bit more control and flight time but it's bigger and heavier. I think the air 75 can have those with some changes like triblade props and lower camera angle
between air 75 or meteor 75 pro . which one should i get ? i already have a air 65 for indoor
purely outdoors just get the 75 pro since it has more control and more flight time. however, I'd say the air 75 has more fun and punch
@@im_ricebowl thanks , will take it into consideration . great flying in your videos
@@jkpisces I think you'll have loads of fun regardless of what you get XD thanks man!
@@im_ricebowl which one has a longer flight time with a 1s 550mah?
@jkpisces generally drones with larger props = more efficient so thats the 75 pro
Wow that's amazing flight control Do they have any jello issue?
thanks man! they do but this was because one of his motors was damaged from a crash he had. not sure what they're like brand new. still waiting for betafpv to see if they want me to review the 75 pro 04 as they're currently on holiday

@@im_ricebowlhow long you been flying?
@kekmaestro3627 close to 7 years!
I built a custom XI20 Pro and as much as I love the end result the build itself was super tight and fiddly. If I didn't have a 3D printer, a knack for designing TPU parts, and lots of patience, it would have been a lost cause. Anyway, yours turned out super cool - thanks for the walkthrough and tips!
@@danonfpv If you don't mind me asking man I'd love to know what parts you went with and what you parts you designed! ngl, I did find it fiddly with the amount of screws that needed to be removed everytime you needed to access smth but kinda brushed it off to cinewhoops usually having lots of screws XD. thank you man! and for watching! I appreciate your insight and I'm glad this video reached its audience XD
I am a bit late to the Party... but super cool Project. Keep putting in the work 🤙
thanks man! a lot more is gonna come soon on the hachidorii series of frames! I gotchu man 🤝
Sorry, whit the AIR 75 can i use the 550mah battery?
yupp it fits!
@im_ricebowl Are u sure? like 2 people Say me its not good 550mh ..... idk u can try? 🫤
@@Son1c55 well your question was if you could use a 550 XD if it's any good...I guess it'll be on the heavier side which will definitely affect performance but not make it unflyable
Idol
thanks man XD
What fixes did you make on it? Would love to see a full length vid on this setup and whether its worth it over going the 2s O4 Route! Wicked flying man :)
just some filter changes, removed d max, adjusted the D gains a bit, and changed rpm filtering to 48khz. Actually just things people recommend for the standard analog 75 pro but seems to be fine for the O4 variant too. I do actually plan to make a review for it but it's also up to betafpv if they want me to review it XD I can't review this one since it's my friend's and It had damage already when I tried it. but Incase I don't get to review it, my current thoughts of it is that, it's really only worth getting if you just plan to cruise. Lots of propwash, great control but definitely no punch, and ultimately suited for slow cruising. I mean you can push it to do freestyle like I am trying but....it's not fun fun. Really have to stay in that throttle to get any altitude and the fov of the 04 lite is just too narrow. with this in mind, it's great for cruising and the flight time is actually respectable [around 4 to 5 mins]. the turning and throttle control is pretty good and smooth. kinda treat it like a cinewhoop. now I do have a Hachidorii HD planned that is going to be a 2s cinewhoop. And I did get to try a prototype recently. I kinda prefer 2s more XD. you now have the option to have more power for flying outdoors but can turn it down a bit with throttle limits to have it docile and smooth for indoors.
00:38 he called me smart 😅 Can I get this with a signature?
I gotchu man. I'll even hand you a certificate if you want XD
@im_ricebowl yes please xD Edit: would you recommend the air75 or the meteor75 pro for a beginner? I've never flown with an fpv drone before (i don't count my DJI mini 1 as a fpv in this case xD) and would use it for fun outside and try out tricks.
CAn you share your PID and rates? Because i have one and i think is not that smooth
PIDs I have on this were the defaults and I believe you can find the diff file for the 75 pro on betafpv's website [support.betafpv.com/hc/en-us/articles/16846305078297-CLI-for-Meteor75-Pro-2024 ] Always make sure you have all your hardware secured and none of the motors or props are causing excessive vibrations here's my rates which I use for all my drones # rateprofile 1 set rateprofile_name = RiceBowl set rates_type = ACTUAL set quickrates_rc_expo = OFF set roll_rc_rate = 54 set pitch_rc_rate = 34 set yaw_rc_rate = 59 set roll_expo = 6 set pitch_expo = 3 set yaw_expo = 5 set roll_srate = 85 set pitch_srate = 83 set yaw_srate = 150 set roll_rate_limit = 1998 set pitch_rate_limit = 1998 set yaw_rate_limit = 1998 set roll_level_expo = 0 set pitch_level_expo = 0
How’s the performance out of the box? Currently i did DIY mobigital with o4 but gyro data is not good
sadly can't say XD this is my friend's that needed some adjustments after a bad crash that made one of the motors have extra vibrations.
Can you do a build vid with the Hachidorii V2 and matrix aio? Not sure whether or not to grab one. I've seen the testing vid but just how durable are they?
@CyanideFPV will actually have a full documentation and build video for the hachidorii series soon! this includes the recommended parts that each hachidorii version can use, the tune, and links to all the printable parts. the V2 can use the the injection molded frames like the mob 7 v2/v4 ducts or the air75. If you're gonna print the ducts, expect the ducts to be a disposable item but they do last a while. You can check out my IG as many people have built their own V2s - including digital and even 2s builds. the reason the ducts break is because they essentially take all the impact. and if you have a piece of foam under the camera, the electronics and cf frame will be virtually completely safe.
Nice handling actually, flies a lil too much like a cinewhoop. Staying analogue :)
@CyanideFPV it's the built in stabilization on the O4 lite XD without it, it'll look like the usual snappy dvr XD will also actually stay with analog for a long time too. I just got the 04 and G3 so I can cater to digital pilots too when I design frames
Fair enough lol! Would like to see some raw footage/DVR 👀
@CyanideFPV will do on the next ones!
Great bit of flying mate. It seems to handle it quite well! Are they stock rates you’re using?
I appreciate the kind words my guy! shes flying pretty well despite some damage on one motor XD. And I am using my custom rates
Fair play! Can only hope to gain your skill sets at some point. How about the PID tune? Are they stock or have you tinkered?
I’m about to buy my first IRL drone (50+ hours in sim) and I’m torn between the meteor75 pro and the air75, which one would you recommend?
@@KontrollaKid6969 I think the 75 pro will always be my go to beginner drone. I've even handed mine to some new pilots to try and they like it. It's docile, tanky, and generally more controllable than other whoops. There's also tons of mods for it, so when you grow, it grows too. There's a review of it in my channel if you wanna check it out!
@im_ricebowl thx for the advice, I'd already seen both reviews XD
Thanks for the support man XD hope you enjoy which ever you choose! you won't go wrong with either
@im_ricebowl yeah love your vids, keep up the work!
@KontrollaKid6969 will do! thanks again!
Hi man, when will u upload the new build u shared on the TinywhoopFacebookk group? u mentioned u got 9 min of hard flying? I'm Interested
Does the batt need to be depleted or maintained on a certain %. Thanks
@cyrusserrano2356 I have the vifly whoopstor which let's me fully charge to 4.2v and storage charge to 3.8v. If I'm not gonna use it for multiple days, it's at the storage voltage.
Just have bought tha same motors. The only pitty is a fly time: 1,5 min on 260mAh
yeah 30000kv sucks the battery quick XD I think it got a little more than 2mins and 30sec on a 380. tho, I'll add that my whoop at the time was easily 20g dry
Some Calm flying this time, Nice.
love the days where I can fly casually after studying hard XD. appreciate the kind comment man!
@@im_ricebowl Hey did you know that you can change the sound of start up to a custom sound on your radio
@FusionKiwi-s9k ohhh I didn't know that XD got any tutorial for it?
@@im_ricebowl i don't sorry. I've done it to my radio but there is a chance i could show you if you really wanted to do it.
@FusionKiwi-s9k no worries man! I'll hit you up if I ever decide to though I think I know how you did it....changed the audio file in the SD card for the startup?
Nice flying!
@FusionKiwi-s9k thank you man!
Awesome I wish I could say the weather is good where I am 🤣
@@GideonFPV dw man 🙌 it'll get better soon!
Nice review, what goggles do you use?
@prayerone1067 thanks! currently using fatshark HDO with the eachine pro58 with achillez firmware.
@@im_ricebowlthanks!!
W vid
@Cyan1deFPV thanks man!
Great video brother 🎉
thanks man! appreciate it!
the air65 tanks wind, fav whoop by far
@@Shrubs_stuff hell yeah it does. Didn't get to appreciate that in my original video but I swear - it was so windy during this day
Just a question what do you prefer. Nice flying too!
@FusionKiwi-s9k between the air65 and Hummingbird RS?
@@im_ricebowl Over any quad / whoop
@FusionKiwi-s9k personally, an all rounder is definitely the air 65. I think the air g4 is a great aio for analog and it's easy to get sub 17g builds with it. the motors are pretty standard - definitely some other more capable and stronger motors but they're completely fine as a bnf kit. I love the c03 camera and I think it's a great camera. It's also a bnf that can easily be turned into smth like a fractal 65 pro or my hachidorii XS60 so lots of mods and changes that can be done if you want to play around with that stuff
Interesting Thanks
@@im_ricebowl I will Be buying a Meteor 75 pro Around June Which will be fun. i hope .
Imma make a playlist of all your flight music
@@angeldimagiba7848 if copyright stuff wasn't so scary, I'd be sharing a lot more XD.
will this be better with Meteor 75 pro?
@cyrusserrano2356 kinda mentioned this in 9:20 since one could be "better" in one aspect but not as good in another. Air75 is lighter and punchier but the 75 pro has more control
@@im_ricebowl watching both of your video reviews.. cannot unsee the tacos scene. lol.. ok, noted on those info. im beginner fpv, im trying to weigh which quad to buy.
@cyrusserrano2356 I love the taco scene I delayed this video just to get some tacos XD honestly, my advice for beginners is to not overthink it. These newer drones are pretty good out of the box, decent enough QC to lessen hassle, and are capable enough for a beginner. Get the cheaper option (or more available option - including spares cause you'll eventually need them) and you should be good to go.
@@im_ricebowl i actually dont want to over spend, which i actually did. i have some DJI gears already. Neo and Googles N3. so im eyeing the Meteor75 Pro 04, with extra batt and props and a few motors..
@cyrusserrano2356 hmmm if that's the case tho you should check out the 75 pro 04 bnfs since the analog ones will definitely be a lot different from the 04 ones. gonna review one as soon as betafpv gives the green light
