I've always thought that poor tortured sod offstage should have a go at real screaming rather than those wobbly, unconvincing "ahimé" wails, and luckily, sometimes he does. I mean, they're screwing rusty nails into his head and whatnot. This might of course endanger the singing voice, and most tenors don't want to risk their Vittorias. ;-) Suggestion: Try one octave lower. Or pre-record it like...
