Longtime indoor dweller that has finally discovered how fun the great outdoors can be. This channel is a collection of my outdoor adventures. I enjoy sharing them with others and reliving them through the creation and edit process. I am a novice in the wilderness and plan to have many adventures hiking, camping, backpacking, showing parks, enjoying bad weather, failing in hopefully entertaining and educational ways, and learning a lot along the way about the outdoors as well as myself. I hope you will follow along and learn with me or even chime in and provide some constructive criticism. Thanks for your interest!

This is an update to my first look video at my new @OnewindOutdoors hammock. The first hammock I received had a defective zipper and lots of loose threads. They responded within a day and sent out a new hammock. I am pleased with their response. #hammock #onewind #camping #firstlook

I was excited to get a first look at my new hammock, but noticed mid video shoot that the zipper has a defect. I'm glad I caught this before taking it out on a camping trip. I have contacted Onewind and will provide an update once I hear back from them. I have no reason to doubt that they will provide me with a replacement. I decided to go ahead and post this video even though I stopped going o...

Cooking a meal using the solo stove lite and pot 900
I think I fiddled with a bag a time or two before I got my first quilt. That was about 15 years ago. I'd never go back to a bag in a hammock.
I agree with you! I usually bring my cheaper thin bag that fully unzips and use it like a quilt. This was a colder day and I had brought my mummy bag and it was an annoyance for sure. A true quilt is in the plans.
@@JoeGoesOutside Do yourself a favor if you go the top quilt route. Go with the wider option. Makes it easier to tuck in the sides and avoid drafts. If you go long, you can fold the top down for a draft collar.
Thanks for the advice!
@@JoeGoesOutside I "saved" two ounces and twenty bucks by going shorter and narrower. Then ended up buying the bigger one. It's also worth noting that a cheaper 40ish degree synthetic quilt works for the months where it's hot enough to sweat at night, and you can put it on top of a 20 degree down quilt to get you good to 0 F.
Boy do I miss my tent camping trips to Merchants Millpond State Park.
It's a great place! I would like to go back and enjoy a canoe.
I’m a military man. I go tier 1 commando style in my hammock! Worst sleep ever😂
Haha 🤣 I would imagine so!
The scream at the end really helped me, thanks!
I'm glad I could help! 😁
lets go camping
I would love to! I'm a bit busy lately and haven't been able to get in any outdoor adventures. Hope to fix that soon enough.
What if you're urban camping and want to prevent my shit getting stolen? Should I string it up to the hammock so that the suspension will wake me up orr?
I can't really offer anything from experience for that scenario, but I would say that isn't a bag idea. Maybe attach some noise making stuff to your gear when you go to sleep so it will rattle.
Why? In a hammock there is not much reason to be fully in a sleeping bag. Just leave your bag unzipped and use it more like a top quilt.
I normally would with my warmer weather bag. This was an especially chilly night, and I had my mummy bag with me, which doesn't unzip all the way.
👍

Genius
Thank you! Much easier than wrestling with it inside the hammock.
Hardest part of hammock camping lol try doing that while you lay in the hammock
Haha yes! That's why I started using this method. I got tired of wrestling the bag inside the hammock.
Lets go spend a couple nights catching beavers. Plenty down there
I thought they were going to catch me lol. I woke up in the night to a loud slap in the water about 30 feet away and when I shined my light out there I saw eyes looking back right above the water line. They didn't like me being out there.
Do a backflip in bext time 😂
Check the blooper in the pinned comment. I almost did! lol
Thank you for the info. Just got my first hammock and suspension system yesterday. to test, I set it up in my basement this morning. Bought a bag liner to test in and out. Thanks for the instructions.
I'm glad you found it helpful! I hope you enjoy the hammock! I love it and was instantly converted from tent camping once I tried it.
wait is it 100% ok to keep ur shoes on in. sleeping bag? I'm not trying to ruin or rip my bag 😂😂
I take mine off. I am wearing really dark socks in this video lol.
@@JoeGoesOutside thank u
What flysheet are you using? Looks comfy n protective😊
Hi Randy! This is a "GeCamp" tarp off of Amazon: a.co/d/7TUAd8r I have the 10x15, and I like it a lot.
Now that is smart
Thanks, Mark!
Appreciate the video
Thank you!
What makes you choose a sleeping bag over a top quilt? And maybe a detachable down hood when it’s below freezing? Can’t imagine confining myself in a sleeping bag in a roomy hammock
Already owned the sleeping bag before I converted to a hammock and just haven't got around to buying a top quilt yet.
@@JoeGoesOutside ok that makes sense. That’s actually what’s stopping me from swapping my warbonnet blackbird to a bridge hammock- the expense of new underquilts. Cost more than the hammock which is nuts. Enjoy the hang
👍👍👍
Does anyone sleep with a firearm solo camping ?
I always have *something* in reach.
Sometimes I have to pee in the middle of the night....
Me too! Reverse and repeat lol. Stand up and push the bag down quick. Get up and go before it's so bad you have to fight the bag in a panic. Or bring the infamous widemouth nalgene with you into bed.. 😁
Or just an adult diaper. It feels so nice thoo🤤
Please get it together before you do another video with the replacement hammock. Know what you're doing before you video it. Ya lost your credibility with me. Good luck with the replacement. I have their gear. They'll make it right with you. I'll look for the next video.
Thanks for the feedback. The update video has already been out for a while and is the recommended video on the end screen.
@@JoeGoesOutside Thanks for the update.
What tarp is that? Love the protected area it creates for your gear.
Hi Colin! This is a GEcamp tarp I bought off of amazon on sale. This is their 10'x15' version. I was using it in a C shape configuration on this trip.
I forgot to link it: a.co/d/7TUAd8r
Sweet, thanks! @@JoeGoesOutside
I just experienced claustrophobia
I suffer a bit from that (more from cleithrophobia, which is similar but more scared of being trapped in a small place than just being in it) and it did take me some getting used to this mummy bag. Very constricting. The weather needs to be cool enough for me to make the tradeoff mentally and emnrace the warmth of the bag and not panic lol.
@@JoeGoesOutside YES! THAT!! ^^
How the everliving fuck did I not think about doing it this way?
Works great! I still plan on getting a top quilt instead to make it easier, though.
One of my favorite places to go.
I need to go back! I only went this one time, and there is so much left to explore.
The real trick is standing in my canoe and setting up my hammock, then crawling in and unpacking my bag and getting tucked in.😀
That sounds amazing!
I put the bag in unzipped, crawl in, undress and stow my gear off of the ground, snow, water, etc. Waking up to a flood will change your habits.
What rain fly is that
Hi wafflestomper! (lol) It is a cheap 10x15 GEcamp tarp from amazon: a.co/d/7TUAd8r Thanks for the comment!
@@JoeGoesOutside thanks g
Do you get heat loss in the winter using sleeping bag and the hammock
With a good underquilt on the bottom of the hammock I stay very warm!
You need a top quilt bro! They are pricey. It well worth it for hammock camping.
Thanks! I agree with you, and I plan on getting one for sure.
I dig the tier 1 concealment hoodie
Hey, thanks! I love this hoodie. It's my favorite (you can see it in almost all of my videos lol). I have had their axis elite holster for years now and I love it.
Omg. Why have I never thought of this?
Works great! 😁
Hey Joe this just came up have a recommended video question did they make the hammock replacement good? Hopefully so because they are a very good company with great products! I really like their Buckle straps makes setting hammocks up very quickly. I want ahead to pick the subscriber button for you buddy take care
Hello and thank you! Yes, they sent me a correct hammock and I didn't even have to return the other one! It worked out perfectly. I love the buckles as well. I really love setting this up vs the straps with built in loops I had with my previous hammock.
@@JoeGoesOutside that's awesome yes ever since I started using the Buckle straps I keep them on the hammock at all times because I do stealth camping for a quick setup when I am done my back directly into my backpack without taking anyting apart easy in easy out
Very nice! I would love to try stealth camping sometime. I have a few spots in mind when the weather is cooler.
I have the same underquilt...it's pretty legit for the price.
I agree with you 100% on that!
Which underquilt is it?
It is a onetigris hideout hammock underquilt.
Never seen it done that way before. 😄 Tip of the cap to ya!
Thank you! I need to just get a topquilt, but I got tired of trying to get in my bag while in the hammock and came up with this. 👍
@@JoeGoesOutside if it works, it works!
10/10 for Hammock Engineering.
would you buy it again? I'm not sure if I should take this one or the 'older' model without the wind shield ...
I am not happy with the zipper setup on this. I prefer two zipper pulls so I don't have to reach so far to grab the pull all the way at the end. I would probably make sure my next one had that or some other easier way. Even with attaching a long piece of paracord, the zipper just isn't easy to open.
@@JoeGoesOutside thanks! I decided to order a different model :)
You're welcome! They offer a slip over wind sock that works with almost any hammock if you are still interested in that feature.
@@JoeGoesOutside thanks, I'll check it out edit: that's exactly what I was looking for, also covers the underquilt
Awesome! I hope it works out well for you.
Any update?
Yes. They replaced it with no questions asked and I got to keep the bad one. Worked out well! ua-cam.com/video/tQ8cSDbvHIQ/v-deo.html
Never thought of that 😅
Works great! 👍
Introducing our exciting new product, the Hot Pocket for bears 😂
😂😅 Oh no!
lmao fuck that made me lose it xD
How do. You GET. OUT. IF SOMEONE IS. STALKING. YOU
Hulk your way out and hit them with the bear spray! 🐻 💨 lol in all seriousness, the zipper does come off down pretty easily though if you just push away from you inside the bag.
That was kool broth'r!
Thanks bro!
I think it would be cool if y'all go looking for BIG FOOT... or tiny foot HA HA
That sounds like an amazing idea! 👣
Great video. It is a beautiful place. What camera are you using? The videography is fantastic. I always stuff my tarp. And my down quilts and bags. But I store them loose in mesh laundry bags at home.
Thanks so much, Joe! I appreciate the compliments. I am using an older GoPro 6 and occasionally my Samsung Galaxy S21 FE phone camera.
On their website, it says the windsock is good for rain... Do you see that actually being possible with the vent? Is there some way to seal it?
Hi Ben, thanks for the questions. I don't see how that could possibly work with the rain. There is no way to seal it. They have a slip over style of sock with vents in the sides instead, but even that would let water in. I think they may be a bit full of it on that claim if they are trying to make people think a rainfly isn't required.
Looks like all y'all get along good. And have a good time.
Absolutely! It's a great group and they bring and cook some great food! 🥞
What rainfly is that?
Hi Sean, thanks for your question. This is a Gecamp brand 10'x15' Tarp I bought off of Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DNGPDKP
I do the same, and till now I think I was the only one
Yes! It works well when you have a sleeping bag rather than an underquilt!
