The Owens Defense Pt 3
In this third video you`ll see what happens when white goes for the "queen`s pawn opening" approach, which is what 1-d4-2-c4 players such as myself would usually try against the owens. You`ll surely have fun with the Poli-Gambit as it looks like no other opening or variation that i ever knew of. Enjoy!

The Owens Defense Part 2

Part two of the Owens and here we go: The supposed refutations for white that in reality are no reason at all to abandon this nice opening. Just avoid some known traps and do so by playing natural Owen defense-like moves and you´ll have nothing to fear. I give you several options to go for anyway as i like more than one of them myself, enjoy! 00:00 Intro 00:26 Summary 1:11 e4-d4-Bd3-Nf3 1:26 4-...
The Owens Defense

Finally! i wanted to show my survey on this opening a long time ago but not before putting the whole thing together, including the known controversial lines that have convinced a lot of people not to use the owens defense ever again. Part one covers the basics, part 2 will take on the so-called refutations and part 3 the lesser known lines for both sides. Enjoy! 00:00 Intro 00:37 Summary of all...

I´ve been getting a lot of this 2-...c5!? line against my QG on the internet lately, i and the truth is i had forgotten about it´s existence even when i had a few games on it already. That´s why i checked my study on the opening on it´s what i´m bringing you on this video, hope you enjoy it! 00:00 Intro 02:27 3-c4! best move 04:40 4-Qxd4?! is not the best 06:06 4-cxd5! is the best move 06.25 4-...

A very curious tactical theme appeared in one of my games and i decided to show it as i think it´ll be fun. I took the opportunity to try a little "let´s calculate together without moving the pieces", i hope you like that as well. In this second part of this defense, i`ll focus on white preventing our ...b5 with a4 and what we could play against that. This is very importante if you`ll play this, as white players use this often instead of letting us expand at will. The Benko Gambit, go 4-Qc2!?
Переглядів 4452 роки тому
Against this Benko Gambit i´ve tried several variations, and this 4-Qc2 was suggested to me by an IM that used to train me. I´ve played it often since, with solid positions, avoiding the regular Benko gimmicks and over all having very happy results. i hope it´ll be useful for you, enjoy! 00:00 Intro 02:40 4-Qc2!? 04:31 5-...d6, Kempinski-Balk 07:36 5-...e6 Mamedyarov-Nguyen Here´s a game i play...

In this first video featuring the main line of the QGA, we´ll take a look at a pretty unknown gambit for white, which always brings chaotic and fun positions. What i like about the game i´m showing you today is that i think a lot of you might share my decisions in it. But mainly because when you see everything unfolding in the end you get the feeling some of the positions will stick in your head for a while. Just play this against...The BogoIndian Defense
Переглядів 2872 роки тому
In this first video on the Bogo i present you the main plan black uses in all levels, from club player to GM. And against that, you´ll see my usual procedure of not playing Catalan nor going Be2 but using Bd3 and try to attack black´s king ASAP, focusing on getting opposite castles to be able to throw everything against the black king´s face. The Tango defense, Crazy unusual openings 7
Переглядів 3122 роки тому
Finally one with a somewhat argentinian name! :) nah but, for real, i´ve seen this interesting opening shown on youtube videos, but normally from the black side, so i decided to show the main line for white. And the fact that there is one is interesting in itself for me, as the best players from the white side showed respect for this opening and recognized that a main system against it had to b...
Queen´s Gambit Accepted and Sustained!
Переглядів 2112 роки тому
Accepting the queen´s gambit is super normal, but sustaining that extra pawn afterwards with black is almost an elephant in the room, i couldn´t find videos on that subject. People seem to assume that white would always get a big advantage, but things are not so simple so here´s my take on the subject. Here´s the promised part 2 of this video on my favourite defense. I made it trying to make it be instructive and useful to show the ideas, plans and tactics available for black. In the last line with 9-Bc4...Nd7 10-h3...Bxf3 11-Rxf3...Cc7 12-a4...a6 13-Qd3 i showed practical examples while the computer prefers to equalize immediately with 13-...b5! 14-axb5...Bxc3! 15-Qxc3...axb5 16-Rxa8...Qxa8 ...

I made a pausethevideoandthink account on lichess to show you some games, it wasn´t easy to set everything up and the HD camera has a short life filming straight but the result was good and as a plus we got a Pirc vs Saemisch and a Modern vs London, both lines that i showed in earlier videos. KID bayonet attack
Переглядів 4142 роки тому
I wanted to talk about the bayonet attack for a long time, and this video is a look at it from both colors. I think what i love the most about it is that it´s one of the few things in chess that we humans understand better than computers, at least talking about seeing the big picture. The Chigorin Variation in the Queen´s Gambit
Basically Queen's Indian setup against e4.
AT 17:30 Why doesn't black just play 1.. B-B7 instead of B-a6 which just drives the white queen to the the desirable q-f3 square. The Black threat is 1..BxP 2.BXN BXB 3.QxB Q-e7 winning the piece back. If white plays 2. D-6 BxD6 3.NXB RXQ+ 4. NxR BXB. I didn't check my choice with chess program so I might have missed something.
Very good. Go on please 🙏
Nice, many thanks.
Perfect explanation. Love it!
Thx for the suggestion. I picked up the queen's indian defence against 1.d4 and want to add the double fianchetto to my repertoire. Any suggestions against the white d5-plan? I feel like this is critical as it fights for the central light squares by blocking out the black bishop on b7. For ex. 1.d4 Nf6, 2.Nf3 b6, 3.c4 Bb7, 4.g3 g6, 5.Bg2 Bg7, 6.0-0 0-0, 7.d5!?...
Excelente video, muchas gracias!
@25:38 shachigically. jks😂
Great video thanks
content is good presentation of content is awful
6:18 what if white first Hxe6+ we fxe6, Bxd8 Kxd8, cxd3 ? black -1 pawn
thumbnail is insane
Great ❤
Great stuff. Loving the content. Thanks!
White can also castle queenside, or even remain uncastled, and start an all out pawn push on the kingside. Perhaps not the most sound way to play but quite intimidating at my level as black ends up with very little room to maneuver.
Stockfish. 1.e4 e5 2. d4 exd4 3. Qxd4 Nc6 4. Qe3 Bb4+ 5. Bd2 Nf6 6. Nc3 O-O 7. O-O-O Re8 8. f3 d5 9. . Qf2 d4 10. Nb5 Bc5 Oh, white has does quite well in these lines in the Lichess master database. On the other hand, the video is right about pushing back early against the Center Game. If black fails to react, white can quickly take over the direction of the game. As for "refuted" that seems a bit much frankly. Oh, a FIDE candidate master by the name Arne Moll has a new book on the Center Game coming out on November 1st, 2024. Guess no one passed him the memo that the Center Game was refuted. Meanwhile, I guess it is better for everyone to think it is a trash opening.
Well explained!
You do a great job of explaining the why instead of just saying play this line. Thank you
This is an excellent breakdown thank you. I have a course on e6 b6 defense but it’s really helpful to have a quick summation of the big ideas against e4
I do really like your videos and helped me a lot but for some reason always waiting for you to finish a cocain deal with such voice.
thank you, this is perfect, i play the hippo exclusively and you cleared up some conceptual ideas i had with your great explanation.
Very inspiring for me, because my plan is to play this variation in the next season.
i'm playing pirce, and i thing to 5. c5 is better than 0-0, more agressive and better attack
Good video...thank you,
If you don’t mind me asking what is your rating
Excellent video! A lot of great concepts explained
But I think that it’s important to show how the game could play out instead of just saying that the evaluations are very similar. Ironically, this idea can be dogmatic in itself if not careful haha
Jobava players dont play knight f3,its pawn f3,so this set up without kf3 is a crap....
Very inspiring video. Thanks for your time and efforts. Much appreciated.
Very interesting. I play the Pirc often by default, which means I open with the Modern defense & if given a chance transpose into the Hippo defense, but most of my opponents play the Austrian attack vs the Modern Defense & so I transpose into the Pirc, as the Pirc does fairly well vs the Austrian attack. If my opponent does a Be3/Qd2 set up instead of the Austrian attack I transpose into a hybrid of the Pirc with c6/b5 or a6/b5 & put off castling until it’s clear if the king or Queenside is safer. I love the Pirc’s flexibility & fighting spirit. Love your content; please make more Pirc videos!
Great explanations, love the pirc defence - you should make more!
The whole forced line starting with ...Qb6 is truly remarkable. BTW, RIP Yuri Averbakh, 8 February 1922 - 7 May 2022.
I searched for this opening, cuz i played it by mistake, and yup, now it's one of my favorites, thanks for lesson!
What about the Saemich variation against the Pirc?
Great explanation, indeed. However, would you explain how you would play against an early Qd3 development by white instead of the main line Bd3? Developing the Queen instead of the light bishop ruins the black strategy with Pirc unless I'm missing something. That's why I ask what would you recommend against this variation?
one of my favorite openings.

Très intéressant ! La liste des coups en description de la vidéo serait un gros + !...
17:09. After black plays ..f5, Ng4 looks strong for white, threatening Ne6 with advantage. What does black do about that?
Can u make a video with more depth on kings indian / pirc vs jobavo and some model games too
I'm currently in an online chess competition and I tried your N.a6 line against a much higher rated opponent. It worked perfectly just as you said and I won the game. Happy to share the PGN if anyone is intetested.
i am interested!
I am also interested in the PGN
Hello and thank you! I started playing against the Austrian Attack about a month ago and was looking for a sharp alternative for black to 6...Nc6. Out of interest, are there any Chess course productions of you outside YT? You have a very soothing voice and I think you have a good educational style of presenting chess.
I found this channel recently and i love it! The channel name is very unique, and the whole layout of the videos are just great! However I do think the titles could be made a bit better to push these videos in the algorithm, gaining more views. You definitely should come back to youtube!
