    I'm currently in an online chess competition and I tried your N.a6 line against a much higher rated opponent. It worked perfectly just as you said and I won the game. Happy to share the PGN if anyone is intetested.

    I love the Pirc defense. Really good job, thank you. Chess is difficult and takes time and effort to develop your game, especially if you are building a repertoire. Looking forward to more on theory for black pieces in the Pirc and KID.

    A superb explanation of the Austrian Attack. I’m a novice, but have studied this as my main response to 1. e4 for quite some time. You’ve just helped me tremendously.

    Great explanation, indeed. However, would you explain how you would play against an early Qd3 development by white instead of the main line Bd3? Developing the Queen instead of the light bishop ruins the black strategy with Pirc unless I'm missing something. That's why I ask what would you recommend against this variation?

    17:09. After black plays ..f5, Ng4 looks strong for white, threatening Ne6 with advantage. What does black do about that?

    Great content, as always. Really enjoy how you simply break the ideas in the positions down. It's good mental preparation to get that thought process back up and functioning given OTB (for me) starts back up next week and I need to get out of blitz-mentality of trying to make everything complicated.

  • @andrewucla
    @andrewucla 2 роки тому

    Everything you said about the strength of Bd3, from around the 3:30 mark until around 4:10, is exactly why I play c5 before castling.

    • @PauseTheVideoAndThink
      @PauseTheVideoAndThink  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, and that´s correct, some of my colleagues do too and another clear reason they play ...c5 without castles is that they don´t wanna face h4-h5 attacks from white with the king already there. Of course, with 5-...c5 you gotta face some good tries for white anyway like 6-Bb5+...Bd7 7-e5 and others, but both lines should be good for black.

    • @andrewucla
      @andrewucla 2 роки тому

      @@PauseTheVideoAndThink Bb5+ is strongest. But it’s met with Bd7. If Bxd7, Nbxd7 and look to castle with a comfortable position. If instead they play e5 after Bd7, play Ng4 - but that’s not common in my limited experience.

      @@andrewucla hahaha yeah yeah, and i actually kinda owe it to the Pirc itself to try some 5-...c5´s and see how i do. It´s also braver than castles and that leaves a good taste already :)

    • @andrewucla
      @andrewucla 2 роки тому

      @@PauseTheVideoAndThink If you ever do another video that focuses on the early c5, let me know! I often see d5, e5 and Bb5+ in response, but those are somewhat straightforward. And I’m only around 1500, so my opponents are not usually very well-versed in deep Pirc Austrian Attack theory lol. But the one where I get a little iffy is dxc5 followed by Qa5. White has at least seven options just between the queen and bishops. You are usually going to play Qxc5, but after that there’s so much to remember.

    • @PauseTheVideoAndThink
      @PauseTheVideoAndThink  Рік тому

      Cool, i hope you enjoy and learn some nice info out of them. Having said that, i think the reason why most people recommend the early ...c5 without castling is that they think castling will encourage white to play lines with an early h4, as they now have a target to attack with the king on that side. And i think that´s a reasonable way of approaching the opening, but i like this better and the lines with h4 for white don´t bother me that much.

    After Bd3 (27:53), instead of c5, how about b6..from Short and Sweet. The issue I find after c5 is …dxc5 Qa5, Bd3. With b6 you prepare c5 after Nbd7. Thoughts?

      @@deepskywest3633 Oh yeah, that´s what i thought. Well, 6-...b6 is clearly a good alternative. Just gotta watch out for a few things, i think i remember Judith Polgar beating Illia Smirin in like 22 moves or something, i think it envolved an h4-h5 attack by her. But it´s definitely a good line and you´ll get a good position no doubt. about 6-Be3...c5 7-dxc5...Qa5 8-Bd3 yes, that is the main line and i get why it might bother you, but have you checked 8-...Ng4 9-Bd2...Qxc5 10-Qe2...Nf6!? ´cause i took sometime in liking this retreat by the knight and later on discovered that it leads to good positions for black.

    • @deepskywest3633
      @deepskywest3633 2 роки тому

      @@PauseTheVideoAndThink yes. I recently saw the Polgar v Smirin game. Smirin went wrong with b6, c5, cxd4 . 3 pawn advances and an undeveloped queenside. Move 7, Bb7 would be better than c5. Worse than that is 8…cxd4. The queenside is not developed and the queenside pawns need to be preserved for the attack. Smirin folded after this.

      @@deepskywest3633 Oh yeeah that was the one, thanks for sharing it! yeah, i think a friend of mine played like smirin and somehow even had trouble with some ...c5 d5...some exd5 and the tactical problem was that without Bb7 the Ra8 was hanging and he could not allow a possible Qxd5. I think it´s like you said, gotta go Ab7 after b6, maybe we should try that same plan Qd2-0-0-0-h4-h5 to see if it complicates us or not.
