I custom built a snare drum and veneered it with birdseye maple
Переглядів 9924 роки тому
I was shown a technique where regular wood glue was used to adhere wood veneer. This technique was unusual to me because the glue needed to be dry before adhering. This is where the hot iron comes into play. The hot iron is used to melt the two sides of the dried glue together. This produces a superbly even and strong bond. I tried this technique on a test piece and the adhesion was so strong I...

Performing a song produced by one of the greatest rock bands in history... Journey " Stone in Love". This was song written back in 1981 and still relevant today, truly shows the brilliance of these song writers. Performing this song with the "ClassicRockLive" cover band, and having fun making music with these boys, especially with my big brother on lead ( love ya bro). I've known these cats sin...

Recorded a cover of the song Little Big Town Pontoon with the IN2U band at River16 studio in Oakville, ON. Used the Zoom Q2N for drum cam. Bought these 1987 Yamaha Recording customs a few years ago and had a chance to really hear them in the studio, really love these drums.

This is my second use of the Zoom Q2N. The first use footage was done without a lens hood and the video didn't turn out great. This time I made a lens hood using tape and the video is better. I have purchased the actual Zoom lens hood and will try that next. I think the lens hood is a must with this camera. I really like this little camera it's small, easy to use and very affordable. Snow Patrol-Shut your eyes drumless track recording
Hi! I'm a woodworker and I've never heard this technique of drying the glue. It's just regular white wood glue, right? N9t contact cement? Also, how long do you let it dry? I imagine just long enough so it's dry to the touch but not like fully set yet. Very intriguing technique for sure! 👍
Looks amazing. Thanks for the video
Came to watch you veneer.... Stayed to listen to you play... Repeat..... Repeat again. 🎉
Dude!!!... really??? 14 years?? woah! I feel old
I can’t even begin to imagine how rewarding that must’ve been. You obviously had some knowledge of drum building prior. That drum looks, and sounds exceptional. This was beyond inspiring to watch.

Could you tell us where you got the veneer from, by the way you did a great job!
The veneer was purchased from a place called Exotic Woods in Burlington, Ontario Canada.
What was the inner shell made from? Is it multiple layers of maple vaneer?
Shell is 8 ply maple
Great finishing technique and outstanding drumming as well. Bravo!
Yea!! Love the feel bro!!
T’es super bon chummy! Bravo!
Popping or Slapping that E note and then the open A note , on the Bass Guitar, was by far the best part of this cover @ 1:13. Guitar was great on his harmonics. PROPS
So playing the song like it was recorded wasn’t an option?...the gtr solo?
Which brand of pre-catalyzed polyurethane did you use? I'm looking for this exact thing for a snare drum that I am doing.
I used Valspar Legacy Clear coat on this drum.
The mod sounds incredible and I will definitely contact Jesse in the future re: reworking some cymbals. My only question is regarding whether he works internationally (I'm in Canada). I'm also curious, do you know the before and after weights of the ride? I'm curious how much he took off this one to make it sound so juicy. Cheers!
I didn't weight before and after, I probably should have though. I'm in Canada as well, shipped to Jesse in NY and there were no issues. He did a fantastic job!
Was this paper backed or wood backed veneer. Also what was approximate thickness of veneer you used?
This was bare wood both sides ( not paper backed) thickness is approx. 1/32"
Man, they got their shirt tails out. Rebels.
that sounds 30,000 times better. great work
That was beautiful Birdseye veneer. And you stained it black??? SMH
Yes I was going for subtlety I’ve always wanted a drum like this, which is the beauty of custom making your own stuff 😁
great job, I love funky drums
Thanks!
Wow!
this video is totally suck
How did you EQ/mix this recording? In what DAW
Korian The wav files from the H6 were mixed and EQ'd in Garageband.
Awesome Job !!!
When u went into his shop, did u ask for specific sounds and characteristics, or did Jesse just do it at his own discretion?
Peter, I gave Jesse certain details in the sound I was looking for and then let him do his thing.
Did he lathe both top and bottom of your ride?
Yes Michael both sides were lathed. The cymbal is pretty on the top and bottom! : )
Those cymbals sound so good 👌 do you have bass drum, snare, rack and floor tom going into the zoom and use the X-Y as an overhead? And did you run them into a DAW?
Paul these Meinl cymbals are great for sure, they need no eq at all. They sound just as good live in person as they do on recording. Yes I have all drums mic'd using the 4 XLR inputs on the H6 and XY as overhead. Then import the 5 separate tracks in Logic and mix accordingly.
@@taurusdrummer Can't go wrong with Meinl! You done a sweet job of mixing. Just ordered a zoom H6. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the reply :D
Any knows band name
Hi Kenn, the band is IN2U. www.in2u.ca. Cheers!
Fuck love her voice fit's the song
Overall I liked the Zildjian K Kerope 20" 2096 grams Best, but thought the Sabian Pandora 22" 2636 grams sounded very nice also- the other two, I did not dig--God job of playing so we could sort out what we liked
Excellent. But get rid of the stacked stuff,
Hey Tony, Great sound, did you use the XY onboard mic as overhead mic? or room mic?
Charles, I used the XY as overheads. Boom stand above the kit directly over the snare drum.
daamn great groove
Very really cool my friend it's amazing so good 😉 it's cool as an interpretation 👏 I subscribed to your channel 😉 👍
So funky and tight man
So groovy man, great job.
What cymbals do you have? They sound great. Where you have the recorder makes a difference too. Is there a monitor near it???? I hear a lot of the bad too!
Joshua, Cymbals are 14" Sabian HH Legacy hats, Meinl extra thin hammered crashes both 18", 21" Sabian HH Raw Bell Dry Ride, Wuhan 16" China. The Recorder is beside me hihat side , there was a huge monitor there as well. There is a lot of monitor in this recording for sure.
Fantastic work Jesse.
First of all, great cover! I might buy a Zoom H6. But I have a important question. I don't have a computer where I will record my drums. So I will record directly from the H6, plus 4 XLR mic's connected the H6. When I'm done recording with the H6 and come home to transfer the audio files to my computer, will each mic be a separate audio file or will all mic's be in the same audio file? Because I want to mix each mic separately. Thanks!
Yes the H6 will separate the XLR mic inputs, the XY mics are a stereo track. Once you put the SD card in your computer you will be able to grab each track and mix as you wish. Have fun! : )
Alright thanks for the answer! I don't know if you can answer this also, I've searched aroung the internet but I don't find anything. Do you know if the H6 has better audio recording (preamps) than the Zoom R24, or are they similar? :)
I am not familiar with the R24, but I can certainly say the H6 preamps are very clean and precise. I am really really happy with the H6 sound quality
Thanks again! Yeah I agree, it sounds great :)
Awesome drumming man not heard that song for years lol
Thanks man, these songs are so much fun to play : )
no probs keep the live drumcams coming do a couple of pedalcams too move the camera about
very nice groove!
thanks! : )
Was hoping to be able to make drum covers without daws or computers just the h6 and iPhone lined in all connected to dslr
I think you can do exactly that with an H6, but I’m wondering too. Have you found out if this is possible? I’m thinking h6 right into iPhone XS, using GarageBand as a daw. Is that do-able?
Did you have to sync in video editor or did you line in music straight into zoom
Creeperbomb2007. I sync'd the audio and video in iMovie.
@@taurusdrummer This is exactly what I've been trying to find out. Can this be done, and if to, was there any reason specifically for doing it the way you did?
@@shadowmaster41 I'm just used to doing it the "old school" way man. it's just the way I've been editing video for a long time. There is amazing software out there that will automatically do it for you, but I'm not the dude to explain that way of doing it. I prefer simple and easy! ; )
@@taurusdrummer got it. I just needed to know that it can be done that way because that's the way i'm going to be looking to do it. Thanks again maaan
Thanks Mike : )
Marco, Yes I used the XY onboard mic, and I had a snare, kick and sub kick mic plugged into the H6
Hi nice playing and sound. How does it was recorded with the Zoom H6? XY and mics each for the snare and bassdrum?
I love it! Thanks.
So close, good. We make the same kind of videos.
hi taurusdrummer, I have one td3, but when link the midi/usb to the pc, the pc signals a midi interface so far so good, but then what i have to do in superior drummer to get it work properly? Is it just plug an play to the td3 and the PC? Does i need to do something else? thank you, nice vid and nice drumz beats :D
You guys are fucking solid and tight, very professional sounding!! The old "a band is only as good as its drummer" !
Thanks!! : )
