Yes the record label didn’t know what to do with her, but she also clearly got badly hooked on some unpleasant drugs and people which sabotaged her momentum. Looks aren’t everything, but you can tell it messed with her expression and face with whatever she was taking crack & amphetamines and whatever else combined. Rooting for her and the comeback.

I only came to appreciate Mariah a few years ago, so I have the benefit of looking at her catalog out of time. Charmbracelet is the perfect, subtle segue into TEOM. This album has some of her most soulful material and vocals. It got buried by the Glitter/public breakdown and critics held onto that narrative. It's my second favorite after Mimi.
