I’m still baffled as to how Daydream got robbed so much in the Grammys. She has been treated unfairly throughout her career, and I am glad that she is sincerely happy in her life today. Thank you for another great video!
I think that Mariah simply got beaten by artists that were considered more "cool" or "edgy" while Mariah was still considered by many to be a studio creation and not an edgy artist. Certainly, she should have won something, considering how dominant Daydream and One Sweet Day were.
I have been asking that for many years. I think it happened because the music academy thinks Mariah has it all too easy and made out for her which isn't the case. To outsiders, Mariah is "the girl who lives inside the golden world" Perhaps to academy insiders, it didn't feel right to give awards to the girl who is married to the boss. Just my thoughts.
Yes - Daydream was amazing at blending R&B, pop, and hip-hop - but don't forget about gospel, too! Those background vocals in "Always Be My Baby" - those are all gospel-flavored vocals. Her background singers in general during that era (the Price sisters, Melonie Daniels, etc - were well known in the gospel choir community of NYC). That's the amazingness of Daydream (and Mariah in general) - all these genres blended together in a way that simply didn't exist before, especially on pop radio. It's not every day that you hear an album with both gospel references and hip-hop references, celebrated on pop radio.
Absolute masterpiece. Honestly this album is so cohesive and flows so smoothly and grabs you that when the album ends you hit replay immediately cause you can't believe that such a beautiful musical journey ended.
I wish you had mention how her Daydream interlude was a precursor to her butterfly reprise and was her incorporating dance music into her albums which is another thing Tommy wanted her to avoid exploring genre wise, which is why she kept it as an interlude.
Daydream is her best era, the album has no skips, follows a theme, still sounds fresh till this day, lyrics and production are top notch! Every song on the album was a hit martial, her music videos in this era started to become more fun. Other than the impact of the fantasy remix, and the overall blending of different genres, from r&b, pop, gospel, hip hop and dance music.. The Daydream Tour will never be replicated or even touched, her vocals on the tour are the greatest vocals of all time
It was better because she had more creative control it was an album she wanted to make not an album that she wanted (her demos) being changed to fit what the label wanted you could argue that emotions was mariahs first album where she actually had a say in (although music box was where she had full creative control for the first time ever)
@@rs-ly1bu so true. I also think of her early videos and how she didnt have much control over the creative concepts. I wonder what ideas she wanted to do for some of her videos
@@rs-ly1bu i think career-wise, tommy had a good intention for her debut album to be like that but one thing that bugged me was that someday was edited in the music video. I think if they kept the original version, it would be a lot better. the remix sounded off to me.

Growing up as a tween and a teen in the early 1990s, I always thought that she seemed too slick before Daydream. Daydream was the first Mariah Carey album I bought. She was so much more raw in Daydream than in any earlier album. I still remember fans petitioning Sony to release “When I Saw You” as a single in 1996.
Great video! Let's be real she changed the game when she stepped on the scene with Vision of Love. The structure of that song changed the idea of what a pop/ballad sounds like & also bringing complicated melisma to the forefront(she didn't invent it just reintroduced into pop-music). An underrated musical genius! And to think Emotions isn't generally seen as successful but today it has sold 13+ mil WW..while debut has sold 20+ mil, Musicbox 35+ mil and Daydream 31+ mil.
Daydream is my 3rd favorite Mariah Carey album (after Emotions and Glitter). I bought it when it was released in its first week and I wore that cassette tape out. With the exception of her covering Journey’s Open Arms (which I didn’t care too much of), Daydream is almost flawless from beginning to end. This was the first album with her working with Jermaine Dupri. The 2 songs he produced (Always Be My Baby and Long Ago) were my personal favorites from the album. Without Daydream, there probably wouldn’t have been Butterfly, which is widely considered her magnum opus.
I first listened to Merry Christmas on tape in December 1995. At that time, All I Want For Christmas felt like a classic. When I browsed through the casette tape insert, I learned MC cowrote and co produced it.
