Hey guys! It's been a busy summer, and I am FINALLY getting time to upload another video. Seriously guys, having two tiny kiddies at home is HARD WORK! Happily in the Middle | What's In My Pump Bag?
Переглядів 6516 років тому
A look into my pump bag what I take to work every day so I can express milk for my son while I am away. Two things: 1. I realize that there is an issue with the camera when I started talking about keeping a onsie in my bag (a piece of clothing that smells like your baby). In an effort to NOT have to edit that advice out, or refilm the entire video, I just went with it. Oh well. 2. I say "flange...

Teaching English Learners | Observation Charts
Переглядів 6306 років тому
Supporting English learners with scaffolds is key to their success in the classroom. Using observation charts is a great way to access prior knowledge and to frontload knowledge before beginning a new unit or topic of student. I have used these in so many of my lessons, and I have had students engage with observation charts in a variety of ways. I think you'll find this an easy peasy way to sup...

+Happily in the Middle Christa , Sorry that i am late with this but back in my younger years even before i was a SPED student in school when I was virtually a newborn , a high fever almost killed me at the hospital and there were doctors telling my parents at the time that if they did not use electronic educational devices , etc . that i would have stopped learning at a certain age growing up . Long story short , On May 30th , 1997 , Mission Accomplished . I ended up being the only one of 3 boys who marched with his High School Sr. Class and graduated . I said that to say this . I am inspired by you for the fact that you kept at it until you mastered it and came up with something that works for you and your students in your teaching carrier . Also never let " the mean student " moments eat you up because it was and is only them struggling under pressure at school . It doesn't really tell you everything about them . You are in those times learning what works for the students the same way the students are learning from you . Keep at it . - Dwight

I'm very glad i ran across this video, subscribed. Your first year story reminds me a lot about mine, i was completely (and almost clinically) set up to fail by my first school (charter middle school). I didn't finish that year and was let go in relatively incendiary circumstances, but almost a year later and i have a job offer and i intend to put into practice all that i've learned. I might keep searching though as it's important to be in a place that is set up to succeed, and i'm unsure this new school will provide that.

Great video! Listening with your eyes: some cultures have different philosophies versus yours. Have you run into challenges because of that? Sometimes, I listen better with my head down taking notes, or with my eyes closed, or just by looking away. I completely agree with active listening but the physical appearance of what it looks like can vary.

Oh my goodness! This video was so NOT what I thought it would be. I taught for 15 years at a private Christian School where I got Teacher of the Year...I was well-rec’d at that school. I left teaching for about 10 years to raise my 4 teenagers. I returned to the same school I had taught at previously and I honestly was scared to death!! It was like being a new teacher all over again..and I was returning in a wheelchair. I felt I had to accept anything thrown at me. I got to school early 6:30am and left most nights at 6-7:00pm. The gave me seven different classes: 7th English, 7th accelerated English, 8th Acc English, high school drama (that was responsible for 2 major productions), high school public speaking, and Sophomore Bible/homeroom (with 30 students and every school event to plan with them!!). I had curriculum for the English classes, but I had to do the curriculum for the other 3 classes. My 2 musicals nearly killed me but they were the best the school has ever had (everyone LOVED them!!), I met every deadline and assignment given to me. I never got positive support from my admin...the only time they spoke to me was when something was wrong. Then, at the end of the year when I thought I’d finally be told “well done,” they told me they weren’t asking me back! I was absolutely devastated. Their reasons were based on lies...here say from a group of “mean gals.” I’ve been so depressed thinking that I’m a failure. But your video spoke to my heart. I look at what you were doing, the crying in class, the feeling as if you’re alone and crazy, the never-ending comments of negativity....I feel the same way. Ty so much for sharing. You have no idea what this meant to me. Ty so much. I mean it 😭😭

Great job! These are the questions commonly asked in a teacher's interview. Lots of people give short answers, but here each question is answered with examples. She is experienced and informed. You can she is passionate about teaching, continuing to learn her craft and strategies, and helping, yes to teach educators or potential educators.

Nice presentation and information overall. The answers seemed longer than prudent for an interview situation, but actually similar to how I might respond (I'm a bit verbose). I expect the preferred response length would vary based on interview team though. You used lots of great vernacular, which reinforced perception of content knowledge and mastery to me as the viewer. Nicely done. Does make me a bit nervous about my own interviews at this point, as I am just transitioning into teaching now. Hopefully I won't have to compete with folks like you too much as I'm interviewing! ;-)

Thanks for the feedback. Most interviews I've been to are timed, so I've had to really decide what's important to share and stick with that. It's a lot about reading your audience and figuring out what they want, and how to showcase yourself. I wanted to offer lots of ideas to my viewers so they can pick what will be most helpful to them. Good luck! Have you been hired yet?
