No Country, Jazz, or Rap. Why? Because they don't rock. And any other genre or artist that doesn't rock. If you have to ask yourself if they rock, I think you know the answer.....they don't. 2) First ...

I'd absolutely love that set, I love Miles up until the late 70s when he started becoming semi easy listening Jazz. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if the price drops.
Figured I would give it a shot Sam, just not my thing. Not sure if it will drop much, as it stands right now you are getting 71 CDs for $3.50 @.
@AisForAliceBisForBob that's a pretty nice deal!
I want to see a boy band version next
Leave it to the new kid on the block. You and I are not in sync.....
Neat that you have Chaos on vinyl though. I have one Peter Wolf album but have only listened once.
One day I will be gifting the C&C album to you. Hang tight buddy!
Haha check, I appreciate it
And to think in band I had wanted to play drums but there were too many drummers. Now I know why, these were all the disposable people glad I took up the trumpet
Thanks Steve!
That's a lot of cd's!! Gary & I often have a private stream discussing the intricacies of jazz. When things are really cookin' Gazza likes to play a few tunes while scatting over the top. That dude sure is one cool cat.
Hey Ben! No doubt Gary is one cool cat. Guess I'm amazed he was able to figure out when to talk with you due to the vast time differences. Cheers!
@ That’s my department. I just let Gaz be that jazzy free spirit that he is & I look after all the technical stuff 👍
I'm boycotting this on behalf of drummers. There's never been a good band with a shit drummer. Drum joke: How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb? 15...One to change the lightbulb & 14 to bitch about how much better Neil Peart would've done it.
Hey Ben! At least I haven't kicked out any Australian drummers yet. But then I've yet to get to AC/DC......Cheers!
@ Cliff Williams definitely gets the boot before Phil Rudd. Whenever he’s not in AC/DC they sound like the 36th best AC/DC tribute band in the world.
It's a bloodbath for drummers! If I do this I will try to pick bands where I won't give the drummer the axe. 😁 Cheers Steve!
Hey Scott! That may be harder than you think....
Look, considering a Miles Davis 71 CD Box Set as your (what I'm assuming) first jazz purchase can hardly be called 'dipping your toe'. You're retired now, Steve, so plenty of time to sit back, take it slow and let the jazz journey begin one album at a time. I have a bunch of Miles, but not everything is to my taste either. We'll chat! 😎🎶
Hey Ed! You're right, I guess this was more of a belly-flop. Cheers!
I'm looking forward to the Disposal Bass Players called out that will suffer great indignities in a future installment! 😎🎶
Hey Ed! I've kicked out one bassist, so a precedent has been set. But as Karen Carpenter once sang, "We've Only Just Begun"......
Miles is my favorite artist of all time. I’m not a huge jazz bum, but I have a decent collection but Davis music speaks to me. That looks very tempting but I have a lot of his CD box sets already. Clocking is ticking lol. I was looking at a 70 CD Mozart box set….hmmmm
Hey Steve! That is interesting the he is your fav artist of all-time, but you're not a huge jazz fan. That is the definition of finding an artist who clicks with you. Sing along Steve, "Amadeus, Amadeus".....
Not that my opinion means much however would consider that box set as an expensive (and expansive) door stop. Jazz genre=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to me.
Had I bought it, it may have ended up in the same place in my house. Cheers Brian!
Good move, Steve!
Hey Dan! Hope all is well!
Glad you’re digging Camel. Mirage (that came out right before Snow Goose) would be the next place to go if you find it!
Hey Alex! I will be on the hunt for 'Mirage' when I'm in Arizona. Cheers!
It’s certainly not for everyone! Appreciate you giving it a chance at least. That’s an insane deal for a collection though. I won’t make a recommendation because I don’t imagine you’d like any of it.. ha!
Hey Alex! Some would call it an experiment gone awry, but at least it wasn't costly. Cheers!
The electric fusion Mikes Davis in the 70s is very difficult. If I had to choose, it’s from his beginning in the 50s until the late60s. Very interesting to see you dabbling in the jazz like Gary! 🤠🎺🎺🎺
Hey Mike! I "dabbled", but Gary is immersed. I don't know why but your smile face emoji with the cowboy hat always makes me smile. Cheers!
“So long Nick Mason” 😂
Hey Mike! Don't let the door hit you in the.....
Good morning Steve, I’m glad you listened before the purchase. So I like “Some,” Jazz! I tend to lean where there is some saxophone 🎷 incorporated into it or a vocalist I love. Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday etc. If I could go back and learn an instrument the Sax 🎷 would be the one! Something about it is BADASS, IMO! 🤘🏼 I NEED the right mood number 1 & most of the right artist when I do listen to jazz. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I reaching for Rock-n-roll within 5 minutes. Great video handsome 👍🏼✌🏼
Hey Anthony! I can see you playing the sax, take it up in retirement. Cheers!
I like "some" jazz but Miles isn't my go to jazz. I'd rather hear some Vince Guaraldi or Jimmy Smith.
Thanks Don!
Good morning Steve. Another brain twister I see; would agree on all five of this post.
Hey Brian! Nothing like receiving affirmation. Cheers!
Frank Zappa once said of jazz "it's not dead, it just smells funny". I'm no jazz head but have a couple of the classics - Blue Train, Kind of Blue, Take Five. I do enjoy it but can't get on with Bitch's Brew - too far for me!
Hey Nick! What percentage of your listening time is dedicated to jazz?
@@AisForAliceBisForBob <1 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If I won $50 in a vc wheel competition then I might go for Kind of Blue but that’s about it 🤞
Stay tuned Stevie, you just might!
I was bracing myself for this to become a jazz channel. 😁 Something about a giant box set allways intrigues me too, even if it is an artist or genre I'm not interested in. I keep trying to explore jazz but nothing has hooked me yet. Cheers Steve!
Hey Scott! Put your fears to the side. Good to know I have company with the box set compulsion! You haven't found any jazz, I haven't found any jazz - I'm guessing we should just let it be and realize it ain't gonna happen. Cheers!
What is your take on The Good Rats?
Hey Kyle! I must say I've never heard any of their music. Where should I start?
@AisForAliceBisForBob Two popular ones with my older bro and his friends was "From Rats to Riches" and "Tasty". Blue collar, good ol' rock music. The track 'Taking It to Detroit' is cool. 👍🏻
Also...Live At Last 😁
@ Thanks! I'll let you know what I think!
@@AisForAliceBisForBob you are a gentleman and a scholar
You played it smart, Steve. TBH, I love the electric Miles period but I always find him to be, in a sense, the weak link in those bands. But, it is what it is. I like music that I know others wouldn't like and vice versa. It's what makes the world go round. Keep up the fun work.
Hey Kyle! Is that the general consensus amongst his fans? I don't know or read enough about him, but that would be interesting if the weakest member is him. Cheers!
@AisForAliceBisForBob nah, that's just my own feeling.
Whew for a minute there I thought you went for it 😊
Hey Greg! For a fleeting moment....
I have 4 miles Davis cd's and listen to them on a regular basis but a box set with 71 cd's is a bit much for me would never play them all because I do like a variety of jazz and artists
Hey Jack! That is a lot, but I bet you would pony up for a 71 CD box set of Styx. Cheers!
I do like Miles, but all of it is on CD. I think I have a dozen or so of his CDs, but that box looks amazing. Kind of Blue is kind of amazing as is Bitches Brew. But, we like what we like. Save you money for some Tommy Bolin things.
Thanks NLB! I did error once last night and used your proper name. Yes, more Tommy!
Rockin' the Bob Dylan Center sweatshirt. I have a few Miles Davis albums and I am more of a casual jazz listener. I know that I would not have sprung for it. It's a good thing it was not an impulse buy for you.
Hey Randy..you, me and Steve..let’s meet up at the Miles Davis Center👍
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Sounds cool to me.
Hey Randy! It was in my cart, but I wisely listened to snippets from about 7 or 8 of the. Just not my thing
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Road trip!
71 discs of ANY recording artist is too many.
What is the cut off number..? There are a very small number of artists where there isn’t one..Miles Davis is one of them..
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I don't know what the cut off number would be, but no matter how much I like someone's music I would never have that many recordings by them. I know some people (Steve for one) loves huge boxsets. I just don't care about them.
@@mistery-ed7900 Dylan, Van Morrison, and Neil Young all have 40 + studio albums. Only thing keeping them from reaching that number is father time.
Great idea to test the waters before plonking down $$$ on that box! I like Kind of Blue, Jack Johnson and even Tutu…but stuff like Bitches Brew- no thanks. 71 discs?? About 68 too many, I think! 😵💫 Cheers-R
Hey Richard! I never would've made it through them. Cheers!
I’ve had maybe 6-12 Miles CDs and LPs for quite some time and bought that same giant box set last year. I still haven’t made my way through it all. Great stuff!
Yeah!!! I love Miles
Hey Brian! Helluva bargain even it takes forever to get through it!
Big Miles fan and I am on a big obsessive dive into his catalogue right now....I think there are a couple you would like..A Tribute To Jack Johnson might be up your alley Steve..Lots of awesome guitar..Buy the Bootleg Series Volume 7..it’s fairly cheaper and the live show from Montreal is pure funk with solid guitar from John Scofield..
Thanks Glen! I will check those out. Cheers!
Been on a Lee Hazlewood kick lately.
Thanks Chris! I've been on a Hazel Lee Wood kick.....
@ lol
I love Miles! His later fusion albums are killer. On The Corner, Bitches Brew, Dark Magus, Agharta and Big Fun are some of my favorites.
Atta boy Chris❤👍
Hey Chris! I shiver with the thought of listening to 'Bitches Brew' again. Just not my groove, as the kids say..... Cheers!
Never dove into Peter Wolf’s solo work but glad he’s still going strong. I hate when bands bring in outside songwriters. Especially a legendary band like the Scorpions. Those song titles are almost as bad as some of April Wine’s. That’s a shame about the Simple Minds album. I feel a purge episode coming…..
Hey Jeff! Try Peter's album 'Come As You Are', title track was a minor hit, and I think it is his best album. Cheers!
Demons and Wizards is my favorite UH album because that was the first concert of them I seen in Indianapolis. 🍻
Hey Don! Mine too, it was my first exposure to them. Cheers!
I have a couple of Motorpsycho albums. That cover is enough to make me want to get that album! I have a magazine by Life magazine… you’re talking about it now… Yes, that’s on the cover! I have Signify. I like the cover. It was almost the first Porcupine Tree album I bought.
Hey Peter! It is a good album, and I was glad to get it since it completes the trilogy. That's cool you have the Life Mag, please show it in one of your videos. Cheers!
Goodbye Allan Lanier. 😃
Thanks Larry!
as drummer of no fixed ability I know what it's like when culling time comes around!! Brian Downey I would question as he's one of the finest rock drummers to ever grace a double bass drum kit. I'd have sacked BR personally (controversial I know). anyway, another drumming joke: Q: how do you now when there's a drummer at your door? A: the knocking gets faster
Hey Nick! I get your pick (especially since you are a drummer), but the dual leads suck me in. Thanks for the joke, cheers!
The thumbnail is fantastic 🎉
Thanks Greg!
This is a fun series you’ve embarked upon. I couldn’t attempt it because my lack of knowledge of the bands disqualifies me. That’s why I enjoy you so much. You’ve introduced me to Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash to name a few.
Thanks Greg! Riding that dual lead guitar train! Cheers!
For me, I prefer MoonMadness over SnowGoose- that album just doesn't click with me too much
Hey Darcy! I have a lot of albums like that. Cheers!
Well, I guess your Pink Floyd choice makes sense. I have no opinion on the others, though.
Hey NLB! I'm sure Nick is a nice man, but he was well paid for his limited contributions. Cheers!
Moonmaddness was my first Camel album and I do like it still. Snow Goose hasn’t won me over. I prefer Mirage, the album that came before. It’s much more exciting to me.
Hey Peter! I do need to pickup 'Mirage.' Cheers!
Hello Steve, Argus and There's The Rub are my favorite Wishbone Ash albums. Salisbury introduced me to Uriah Heep, and I kept up with them through Sweet Freedom. Bad day for drummers! Have a good weekend, sir.
Hey Ralph! I would rate 'Rub' a lot higher if not for "FUBB", outside of that I love it. Yes, big drop-off after 'Freedom. 'Wonderworld was a real disappointment, but I did like the Lawton years. Cheers!
Drummers were taking it on the chin with this episode. I was wondering who was going down with Pink Floyd.
Hey Randy! I think that will be a theme, as the singer and guitarist are normally the chief songwriters. Cheers!
You need to listen to Chaos and Creation more... and then you will love it. 😃
Hey Larry! Why do you hate me? Why would you want to put me through that kind of torture? Cheers!
Great picks and interesting... arguments for who gets the boot and why 😊
Hi Steve. I could probably ask Jeeves 😂 But I want to ask you. Is there a particular reason why Blue Oyster Cult are standing in front of a Luftwaffe Messerschmidt Me 262? I mean aside from it being a beautifully designed aircraft and the worlds first operational jet powered fighter-aircraft, showing that wouldn't really be considered what the British call 'cricket' or I guess some would call 'kosher'.
Hey Morten! Their manager/producer had a big influence on the band, and he also wrote lyrics for some of the songs. Working title for the album was called 'Power in the Hands of Fools' and he wrote very cryptic lyrics. These were based around the occult and WW II. You should take a listen to the album, but make sure you pull up the lyrics so you can follow along. And if you want to take a real trip with them, do the same with their album, 'Imaginos'
@ Well, I do love the record, and that title would have gone some way. Just as a son of a man who lived through nazi occupation and saw classmates disappear never to return because they were jewish, I get a bit apprehensive when I see rockstars parade infront of national socialist paraphernalia (yes, I'm looking at you Lemmy... oh, he is dead). Thank you for an excellent answer 😊
Hey Steve. Great video. So tough. Nice info and reasons for choices. Love BOC, saw them so many times. I’m with you, their black and white period are my faves. I’ve seen Heep a ton and agree. Wishbone Ash so good and that album is killer! Agree there as well. Cheers
@@7BobbyGaylor7 Hey Bobby! Yes, those first 3 BOC are real special, and I still play them a lot to this day. All 5 of these bands played a huge part of my youth and up to now. Cheers!
I would of got rid of Waters just because he's such a d^ck lol.Look At Yourself is my favorite album by Heep.I would go with Kerslake also could replace him with Keith Baker who played on their 1st album he was a decent drummer in my book
Hey Thomas! As much as I wanted to get rid of Waters, I just couldn't as I can not argue against his influence and importance to the band. Cheers!
@@AisForAliceBisForBob I know how you feel but he's still a d&ck lol.I really love most of Gilmour's albums
