Good morning Steve, I’m glad you listened before the purchase. So I like “Some,” Jazz! I tend to lean where there is some saxophone 🎷 incorporated into it or a vocalist I love. Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday etc. If I could go back and learn an instrument the Sax 🎷 would be the one! Something about it is BADASS, IMO! 🤘🏼 I NEED the right mood number 1 & most of the right artist when I do listen to jazz. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I reaching for Rock-n-roll within 5 minutes. Great video handsome 👍🏼✌🏼
The electric fusion Mikes Davis in the 70s is very difficult. If I had to choose, it’s from his beginning in the 50s until the late60s. Very interesting to see you dabbling in the jazz like Gary! 🤠🎺🎺🎺
Miles is my favorite artist of all time. I’m not a huge jazz bum, but I have a decent collection but Davis music speaks to me. That looks very tempting but I have a lot of his CD box sets already. Clocking is ticking lol. I was looking at a 70 CD Mozart box set….hmmmm
Hey Steve! That is interesting the he is your fav artist of all-time, but you're not a huge jazz fan. That is the definition of finding an artist who clicks with you. Sing along Steve, "Amadeus, Amadeus".....
That's a lot of cd's!! Gary & I often have a private stream discussing the intricacies of jazz. When things are really cookin' Gazza likes to play a few tunes while scatting over the top. That dude sure is one cool cat.
I'd absolutely love that set, I love Miles up until the late 70s when he started becoming semi easy listening Jazz. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if the price drops.
I was bracing myself for this to become a jazz channel. 😁 Something about a giant box set allways intrigues me too, even if it is an artist or genre I'm not interested in. I keep trying to explore jazz but nothing has hooked me yet. Cheers Steve!
Hey Scott! Put your fears to the side. Good to know I have company with the box set compulsion! You haven't found any jazz, I haven't found any jazz - I'm guessing we should just let it be and realize it ain't gonna happen. Cheers!
I’ve had maybe 6-12 Miles CDs and LPs for quite some time and bought that same giant box set last year. I still haven’t made my way through it all. Great stuff!
Great idea to test the waters before plonking down $$$ on that box! I like Kind of Blue, Jack Johnson and even Tutu…but stuff like Bitches Brew- no thanks. 71 discs?? About 68 too many, I think! 😵💫 Cheers-R
It’s certainly not for everyone! Appreciate you giving it a chance at least. That’s an insane deal for a collection though. I won’t make a recommendation because I don’t imagine you’d like any of it.. ha!
Rockin' the Bob Dylan Center sweatshirt. I have a few Miles Davis albums and I am more of a casual jazz listener. I know that I would not have sprung for it. It's a good thing it was not an impulse buy for you.
Big Miles fan and I am on a big obsessive dive into his catalogue right now....I think there are a couple you would like..A Tribute To Jack Johnson might be up your alley Steve..Lots of awesome guitar..Buy the Bootleg Series Volume 7..it’s fairly cheaper and the live show from Montreal is pure funk with solid guitar from John Scofield..
I do like Miles, but all of it is on CD. I think I have a dozen or so of his CDs, but that box looks amazing. Kind of Blue is kind of amazing as is Bitches Brew. But, we like what we like. Save you money for some Tommy Bolin things.
You played it smart, Steve. TBH, I love the electric Miles period but I always find him to be, in a sense, the weak link in those bands. But, it is what it is. I like music that I know others wouldn't like and vice versa. It's what makes the world go round. Keep up the fun work.
Hey Kyle! Is that the general consensus amongst his fans? I don't know or read enough about him, but that would be interesting if the weakest member is him. Cheers!
Look, considering a Miles Davis 71 CD Box Set as your (what I'm assuming) first jazz purchase can hardly be called 'dipping your toe'. You're retired now, Steve, so plenty of time to sit back, take it slow and let the jazz journey begin one album at a time. I have a bunch of Miles, but not everything is to my taste either. We'll chat! 😎🎶
@AisForAliceBisForBob Two popular ones with my older bro and his friends was "From Rats to Riches" and "Tasty". Blue collar, good ol' rock music. The track 'Taking It to Detroit' is cool. 👍🏻
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I don't know what the cut off number would be, but no matter how much I like someone's music I would never have that many recordings by them. I know some people (Steve for one) loves huge boxsets. I just don't care about them.
I have 4 miles Davis cd's and listen to them on a regular basis but a box set with 71 cd's is a bit much for me would never play them all because I do like a variety of jazz and artists
Frank Zappa once said of jazz "it's not dead, it just smells funny". I'm no jazz head but have a couple of the classics - Blue Train, Kind of Blue, Take Five. I do enjoy it but can't get on with Bitch's Brew - too far for me!

Hey Anthony! I can see you playing the sax, take it up in retirement. Cheers!
I love Miles!
His later fusion albums are killer. On The Corner, Bitches Brew, Dark Magus, Agharta and Big Fun are some of my favorites.
Atta boy Chris❤👍
Hey Chris! I shiver with the thought of listening to 'Bitches Brew' again. Just not my groove, as the kids say..... Cheers!

Hey Ben! No doubt Gary is one cool cat. Guess I'm amazed he was able to figure out when to talk with you due to the vast time differences. Cheers!
@ That’s my department. I just let Gaz be that jazzy free spirit that he is & I look after all the technical stuff 👍
Been on a Lee Hazlewood kick lately.
Thanks Chris! I've been on a Hazel Lee Wood kick.....

Whew for a minute there I thought you went for it 😊
Hey Greg! For a fleeting moment....
I'd absolutely love that set, I love Miles up until the late 70s when he started becoming semi easy listening Jazz. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if the price drops.
Figured I would give it a shot Sam, just not my thing. Not sure if it will drop much, as it stands right now you are getting 71 CDs for $3.50 @.
@AisForAliceBisForBob that's a pretty nice deal!

Hey Randy..you, me and Steve..let’s meet up at the Miles Davis Center👍
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Sounds cool to me.
Hey Randy! It was in my cart, but I wisely listened to snippets from about 7 or 8 of the. Just not my thing
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Road trip!

Thanks NLB! I did error once last night and used your proper name. Yes, more Tommy!
If I won $50 in a vc wheel competition then I might go for Kind of Blue but that’s about it 🤞
Stay tuned Stevie, you just might!

What is your take on The Good Rats?
Hey Kyle! I must say I've never heard any of their music. Where should I start?

@@AisForAliceBisForBob you are a gentleman and a scholar
71 discs of ANY recording artist is too many.
What is the cut off number..? There are a very small number of artists where there isn’t one..Miles Davis is one of them..

I like "some" jazz but Miles isn't my go to jazz. I'd rather hear some Vince Guaraldi or Jimmy Smith.
Thanks Don!
Not that my opinion means much however would consider that box set as an expensive (and expansive) door stop. Jazz genre=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to me.
Had I bought it, it may have ended up in the same place in my house. Cheers Brian!
