Love the way you save the Sound Core plug for the end, just a super enthusiastic honest review l!
I didn't expect that to hear Toho Bossa Nova, which is your favorite?
I basically have a playlist that I like i"ve been through all the cds, there are a bunch of them, over 12 I think. The playlist I listen to mostly is on my other channel, ua-cam.com/play/PL60FnyEY-eJDHDU_KIalPH7HnLuNZMMDi.html are you a fan? I don't know what kind of magic toho bossa nova is, but it's an odd combination of japanese cartoon culture and soft brazillian jazz that just works lol.
Thank you
I have Juuls Giant x Reynolds & Nove . O i named em alright lots funny human names!
Wow can you smoke it ? that bag of tobacco looks insane 😎
So curious to see the chip experiments whether successful or not. Especially the ones you precalloused on roots
It might be a while. the chips I have bedded in are not too happy with the winter weather. Hopefully they will survive til spring and root well. so far only one rooted. I'll keep at it and find out what is up with it.
@@TeamWachuma Thanks for the reply. I love seeing what people are doing to push what we think is possible with propagation and other growing methods
Deng, I bought a bunch of these but just got 6 sided ones. Interestingly though the growth terminated on one and is now pushing a 4 ribbed pup
They are still mostly 6 sided. It is unusual to have lots of seed that throw this many 5 sided pups though. Uless they are bridge crosses. You never know what they are going to do though. I wouldn't be surprised if some throw both 6 and 5. I pulled a lot of 5 sided ones and will be assessing for the best of them. Some will likely be available as clones in a few years.
@@SkillCult thanks for the reply - definitely interested in purchasing a flat of some seedlings also!
@@mannyMOE707 I have a couple of flats of 50/50 juuls x novo and juuls x reynolds ready to go. contact me through the website if you are interested. I have not listed them yet. There should be quite a few 5 sided guys in both crosses.
@@TeamWachuma email sent!
an idea on naming conventions could be a wiki type enterprise for public records
whats your minimum temp you have yours survive outside dry/under cover? ive been inching mine lower every year but the sub 40s scares me haha
I actually don't know. I've measured below 20 at ground level in cold spots in very cold years. typically though we are not much lower than proibably mid 20's I have a lot of microclimates where things can vary though. Almost all of them will survive light freezes, meaning some ice, but not much. They do vary a lot though in cold hardiness. We need more data.
@@TeamWachuma thats already a lot colder that id have thought! i guess short time periods of it makes sense though
@@kevinjames4405 A couple years ago we had a rough winter with night after night for weeks of freezes. some would leave nearly an inch of ice on open water. I saw damage mostly on pachanoi. Most of the scops and scop crosses showed basically no distress at all. Bridges did better than pachs. We need to push the limits. Nathan Tinder told me that he had some scop/tersch hybrids survive 13 f in oregon last winter. He also says scops are the hardiets. That triat can be transfered in hybrids, so the future is bright for breeding up hardier trichs. We need more data though to find out which genetics to work with. It would be good if more people did what I'm doing and set aside sacrificial plants to put out and and see what happens.
@@TeamWachuma id be willing to guess you could get them even hardier grafting to opuntia, though at a sacrifice to growth probably. there is some interesting old russian research into traits being passed from stock to scion to progeny. some find it contentious but they did great work at the time and it may be leftover cold war feelings haha
40's is nothing. They are fine until it's actually freezing temperatures. I grow mine in Maine, so I know from experience
whats your handle on reddit?
I have a team wachuma account, but I'm rarely on there.
Your T. scopulicola "SC" x T. scopulicola "Spud" is from seeds produced in New Zealand. As usual, the use of names helps identify which plants might have interesting traits in the offspring. Some people just prefer to call these "scopulicola" without using any names. To each their own.
someone must have given me that seed. I'm sure I didn't order it.
@@TeamWachuma Most likely. A lot of seeds went out. I produced some and a friend produced some. The seeds were being sold from 2022/2023, so I suspect they won't be crossed with a "Z", but perhaps there was a clever grower that got one flowering in just a couple of years...
Is that massive cactus (compared to the rest around it) in the middle of the bunch that you show starting @ 19:45 the same age and type as the rest of what’s surrounding it?!?
Yes. Looks like juuls x reynolds
@ that size difference is freakin bonkers haha.
@@HelixGreen It happens. could be genetic, could have just got a head start somehow, maybe both.
a pineapple farm near me calls a plant "precocious" when it fruits and matures a lot sooner than the others around it. So that is a precocious cactus, I like that term.
@@wildepete1 you’d figure a farm would call something like that “ready to make some money”. Haha
Look into slit pots. They are japanese.
What is the advantage. Or what problem might I have that it would solve. the only ones I saw were super expensive. also have to be square and preferably not too tapered. Unless again they solve some other pressing problem.
@TeamWachuma they don't need screen for the bottom they air prone the roots like the band pots and don't let roots circle the pots. They seem to dry out faster as well. They are round through. I've been buying them from japan they are cheaper when you are a couple hundred.
@@jameswalker3416 thanks. I should get a hold of a few to try. It might be something to work into a design for the perfect cactus pot. I imagine all those roots growing out the sides would make them harder to extract if very root bound. Of course there is actually no perfect pot. I have been through two cases of 117 of the big anderson bands and ready to order more, so price is a big issue at this point.
Cool! Thank you!
Do you sell the apple trees?
I miss my san pedros, had to harvest in an emergency move years ago and haven't come across any to replace them.
My seedlings are hella cheap! they grow fast if you take care of them. teamwachuma.com/store
Thank you for the new video
I've had a few cactus survive down to low 20s this year!
Any patterns yet as far as species or hybrids go?
@@SkillCult they were pachanoi, and one bridgessii. The forecast for a couple nights was around 30° but then I checked my home weather station when I was moving the cactus and I saw that the temp had dropped to 22 and 23° on consecutive nights and they were fine.
Hey brother, I got some fire clones and crosses of ya want to do some trades.
Maybe. I am looking for pretty specific traits. You can contact me through social media or the website and we can talk. I don't have any of my seedling clones available yet. I might by the end of this next growing season, but most are either still in testing or propagation.
“Blocky” is a trigger word for me 😮

Wow these chonkers are fantastic. Amazing work
we'll see if they keep throwing fat pups like that over the next year or two. they look real promising.
Getting FAT in the ground! Planting out a bunch in Lakeport. Happy New Year!
Good to hear Richard! I'll have to come by sometime and check it out.
@TeamWachuma yes please!
There really is something about these cacti that make it hard not to notice or stare at them for some reason. They have an aura to them.
How cold can they hold up outside in your area?
I've seen them take night after night of freezes one year, but with some damage. I mean freeze like there is ice on standing water and all the hoses are frozen solid. Pachanoi seem to be more cold susceptible to freezing and I saw a lot of tip damage in that year. The Bridgesii seemed to do better than pachs and some of the Scopulicola and scop hybrids looked like they could care less. I'm not sure of low temps that year, but possibly into the high 20's I would think. I did move them to strategic spots with better air drainage. We're all still gathering info on what is most cold hardy. that is why I'm putting stuff out that I plan to just leave and see what survives.
Beautiful plants! Cant wait for a tubby in my collection❤ Thank you for everything you do, have a great day😎
Holy DINO DNA!!! Good stuff.
Hey did you just put up new seedlings? Some were sold out and now they don’t say that
Yeah, I just did new inventory today.

@@geromerca6734 Dunno how that works. Maybe try a different browser? I don't actually buy stuff from the store, so I'm not sure. The few tiimes I"ve tested it, I didn't have any trouble finding it.
You can right down the % of the earth, soil o permita you use please ? I now you tell in the video but I don’t understand. Thanks
For filling the trays up with the bulk soil, which is almost all of it, I use a potting mix that has pearlite already. They are usually pretty similar amounts of pearlite in them, something like 25 to 30%. I add an equal amount of crushed charcoal, so 50/50 potting mix and charcoal. I do add other stuff like coffee grounds, wood ashes and various fertilizers if I have them. It just depends on what I have. If the charcoal is straight out of the fire, it will take up a lot of nutrients, so soak it in a strong fertilizer first to charge it up. Then drain it and use it.
I'm answering from my other account, it's me :)

I really like your idea for the press plate. Thanks for sharing
It is pretty cool. Like I said though, way overkill for most people. And there is the problem of poor germination.
Is Instagram the best way to contact you for website related questions?
I would like a king tubby whenever he is available!!!
What is novo?
How much and when do you fertilize your seedlings?
I'm very sloppy about it. If I think they need it, I dump on some liquid fert. Usually something like 5-5-5 organic liquid fertilizer, like dr. earth etc. is good.
@ I’ve been growing seeds for the last few months and was curious. I haven’t fertilized at all and wasn’t see much chatter about it anywhere.
@@brianoliver9630 I will fertiliuze the seedlings very early. I use something dilute and spray it on with a fine mister like that solo sprayer. I thinik it helps get them off to a good start. the roots are miniscule at first, to it gives them some food right away when they have maybe not even grown out of the vermiculite layer.
@ thanks for taking the time to educate me! Much appreciated!
We’re do you get all of your seeds and do you sell variegated San Pedro
Until I get more cactus to blooming size, I get seeds from various vendors and friends. Most of the seeds I buy are from Misplant. He has good quality seed and a lot of variety. Will Tomlinson gives me a lot of seeds too, probably half of what I plant if from him. this past season I got some seed from huachuma collective that will be sold to support their work. I don't sell any variegated yet. the only ones I have are seedlings. I probably will in the future though. I have a couple that are worth propagating for people who are into them. I may cut one of them soon and graft a bunch of it. the most variegated is a Jessica x Malo 4. It is highly variegated and also grows long sections of yellow. The other is a cool SS02 x Baker with significant variegation, but not so much that it can't thrive well on its own.
Any poots bridge cuttings? 🥹🙏
not yet. I'll probably have a few in the future. Maybe next year.
I'm not in California but I'm interested in some of them I don't mind paying shipping and for a heat pack
If you are interested in a large quantity, we can talk. Otherwise, I may just have a sale soon. still thinking about it. You can contact me through the website.
I tried seeds once but I didn't have good lights and they died so I'm going to try again next year
I made my first biochar following your advice. It came out great! Love your videos. Thanks for sharing these skills!
Were do you order the Anderson pots from?
I appreciate the video, great info, good music, very well done sir thank you! Stoked for all the new cacti headed my way from you as well🌵💚😁
Hi, so do you just use charcoal straight out of the bag and crush it up ? Or do you make your own biochar and then crush it up?
I will use any old charcoal made any way, or salvaged from burnpiles, firepits the woodstove etc. as long as it is not made with painted or treated wood. also, any kiind of wood or woody material. I make most of it in open piles and a trench method, which you can see in the biochar playlist linke din the description. I have never bought any, but hardwood charocal sold for BBQ (not briquettes) is fine. If you can burn stuff where you are, it is very easy to make in quantity if you've got wood and in many areas wood is easy to get, including pallets.
i'm replying from my other account :)
@@SkillCultGreat! Thank you so much for your help. Keep up the great work
@@SkillCulthey I forgot to ask…. Do you use this method on all plants ?
@@martinwhitehurst9893 No. I have noticed that very high amounts of char in both soils and pots seem to dry out more quickly. that could be addressed with consistent watering, but in general I don't think there is any reason to use nearly this much charcoal in a potting mix or regular garden soil. I think more experimentation is in order, like adding other things like clay maybe, or using a higher proportion of finely ground char, but I'm not too interested in pursuing that and most plants do fine with smaller amounts of charocal. My minimum for garden soil here, with the soft open burned charcoal I use, is 10% but that should be tested by people in their own gardens by making long beds with several different percentages, then planting them to the same crops in long rows and treating the whole bed the same otherwise. For cactus, fast draining and drying is generally a benefit it would seem, so high amounts of char work.,
Goddamn it. This ending is a perfect conclusion to another great video. I just had a good beer to boot. Thank you Team Wachuma/Steven Edholme.
Thanks for the video Steven, I appreciate it. A day with a new Team Wachuma video is a good day - especially if it's about media.
I think the pH discussion can depend on peoples' sources of water. Some people acidify the soil or water they're using because their local tap water is very alkaline and will over time make the pots overly alkaline. Some people acidify their water to avoid having to repot as frequently due to mineral buildup and pH change. Particularly in the desert southwest where a lot of cactus growers are the water tends to be hard and alkaline. Rainwater tends to be a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
I can't wait till this King tubbies are ready 🎉
Hopefully by late summer or fall next year. I have a ton of grafts that I've made, and pretty much all of those are for distribution. A lot of them have already been cut once, so they will throw multiple pups next year.
And please keep the videos coming I will watch them over and over again just to get your views up 💯 ☝️ 👍
thanks :)
