    I'm so ready for what one year will look like from now. On average, though there is some variance, I'll do about an hour on guitar and an hour on sax per day. Weekends are gnar, like 6 hours total each day. Need to get gym up there but that's about... well not great, like an hour 3 times a week lol. It would be so cool though to also have irl friends

    I have done the 8 hr day practice often, for months, sometimes a year at a time, but always playing as much as time allows. Reading 50+ pages daily allows you to cover a lot of material, the mind continually grows and gains faculty, your hands and fingers stay hot and adept, you also are becoming excellent at sight reading the entire register and keys become well known while you are covering the entire fingerboard daily, you gain immense technique from all the textures you are confronting, you can work on many pieces at once, making significant gains in all of them equally. Everyone should explore pushing themselves as life and time allows to discover where their sweet spots are for maximizing their studies. Once you back off the long hour hauls, you do not lose your technical gains, your repertoire fruition just slows down a bit because you are not going through them as much. Just my 2-cents, lol..

    There's no way I'd be able to maintain concentration for 8 hours--or even 4. I have to look at Leisner's book--he likes a split routine (like at the gym, I guess). My failure is I don't sit down with a pretty good idea of what I'm going to study. I have to get more systematic in my studying. And yes, I'm a nerd too.

    • @neuroticindian

      when i was trying to get systematic with my practicing, I would make a list of how I would divide up the hour and then check it off on the list daily - i did it via excel and tried my hardest to hold my self responsible to follow it

    Amateur classical guitarist here. One issue I get with my nails is that I will often develop a crack in them, most commonly the i finger. My only solution has been to just file it down to where the crack ends. Do you think this is more from a bad technique, diet and or inferior nail genetics? Maybe all three. Loved the thumbnail btw 😁

    Currently playing with nails as short as possible but blow me , what a coincidence ....yesterday I bought a glass nail file along with other implements with the slight aspirations of developing my right hands fingers touch points. Its the coincidence that provokes todays response. I will now watch Brads said output. I like Brad. I think he has nailed his platform. Pun intended but came to me by coincidence.

  • @StevenBornfeld
    @StevenBornfeld 3 дні тому

    My nails are WORSE than Brad's. And the method works--a little. But it only holds for a couple of hours. It might be Scott Tennant who suggested contouring the nail to de-emphasize the hooked part. That's easier, but also not terribly effective. I have to live with what I got. And yes, I did burn myself once.

    Let my personal taste not detract from your evident progress BUT here comes a scathing review. Please understand it comes from my care of your skills and artistry Just an honest opinion, which you’re already aware of, is the second half sounds better because it sounds like 6/8 and not like 4/4 in triplets (across two measures) Even if you prefer 4/4, count in 2/4, bar by bar, not two beats to a bar (1/4). Everything should feel like it’s in “1”. Why is this so crucial? Because the whole point of the movement is about transitioning the weight of the pulse to each of the 6 locations of the 6/16 to create contours and textures. This is kind of one of Bach’s major “breakthroughs”. A 4/4 feel eliminates the options to 1 and 4 in 6/16. That’s 33% of the possibilities! It smooths out the contours and removes some potential. I don’t know how many people would find the 4/4 in triplets annoying, but I will say it’s not just me. I’m pretty sure I already promised you I wouldn’t mention this again, but it’s that important to me. Hope you understand. Keep at it. First comes the notes then comes the flavor. Again, apologies for my stark honesty. Much love going your way.

    Words from a couple l good professional's I trust ( John Williams, Tal Hurwitz).. Once your technique is on point then 90 mins practice a day is more than adequate. Of course for ones therapy you could add pieces that strengthen the spirit. The challenge is getting to the ...ON POINT Part... as efficiently as possible....Think gym fitness...once you have reached you goal then maintaining it is rather easy

    Watched a great interview with Paul Galbraith, on freeing up the limbs to move with the music, he started by squatting with his guitar held like a cello before he had his spike fitted to the sound box thereby allowing him to hold the guitar between his knees whilst sitting on a chair, he studied under a Greek guy who taught most instruments using a lot of philosophical thought for the phrasing etc

    Ngl, I used to practice about 1-2 hours every day on sax for almost 3 years, and about 1-2 hours on guitar since January, but these last two weeks have been rough. Can't seem get more than 1 hour in on any one instrument on any day. Life lesson: do not get a real job that makes you exhausted at the end of the day. Just live off that trust fund or steal the skin and identity of someone who does and live off their trust fund. Or live in the walls of some geriatric millionaire's mansion and eat their food at night like an artistic rat.
