We never got to race there unfortunately in my Academy year so that was only a trackday. I left a bit on the table into the hairpin with approaching slower traffic. Laptime wise they changed the tyres and the master cylinder since to be quicker and the current official record holder is 2 tenths slower than this time. no idea on conditions when set though.

I have been back and managed to get the 270r and 310r lap record for knockhill, mostly since it's my local circuit i know it the best. They are in my race videos but i haven't uploaded the single laps yet. Yes they are great cars for the circuit indeed! The racing at Knockhill is fantastic!

@@stratman9449 yeah they are great cars for the ring, but as you say just lack a bit of power for the straights. This is a 310r race car so the engine is sealed so it won’t be going quicker in a straight line unfortunately 🙈

@@ayrton4ever1 Hi there, it is a vbox HD2 just with the rear view video added via a go pro and I add the timer / positions in video editing software afterwards. The heart rate is a chest band, it’s on the store at the Racelogic website as a compatible device with the HD2 👍🏻

I did this for m340d owners to see general acceleration and if the uk cars have a limiter (they do). Most uk owners haven’t been on the autobahn.

Not very much really. Ride height (there is a min), 2 choices of roll bar, brake pads are changeable. Restrictions on camber / castor and toe ranges but they can be changed. There is a minimum weight too. Keeps the racing very fair.

I would love to go back, ideally on a track day to get a running start. Yeah I agree, light was getting bad on this lap and I only had 1 tank of fuel and had to do 5 in a row to get laps in before close. So not ideal. Vbox had me at a 7m42sec ideal which would mostly be the traffic hold up. The 310r class is now on ZZR and they are looking about 1 sec per minute or lap time quicker than the ZZS. Very very rough figures but it would be great if that translates to. 7secs off or approx 7m35s lap with a clear track. Plus as you say a bit more time off just due to familiarity of the lap. Congrats on the lap, I remember it from years ago when I first put my academy lap up. It would be great if more racers put their caterham race cars round here 👍🏻

Thanks! It felt like it would go over 170mph reasonably easily if the speed limiter could be removed. Great acceleration for a diesel.

@@blairmcconachie That's a great acceleration period. If you value great mileage and true sportscar performance there's just nothing else like it I think. Modern Beemers take remaps very well too unlike they were in the past. Still... I've been reading the comments and I agree with you about keeping it stock. You got all the push you could ever want from a reliable daily driver. I'm considering your car as a touring as my next company car. That or the 540d but without rear seats and cargo space instead. In my government's eyes they stop polluting that way. The funny thing is all considered at the end of their lifespan they will have probably polluted less than this electric hype. I'm sure it will keep you satisfied for a VERY long time. Take care man, cheers ✌️

@Blair McConachie damn it pulls very well for a diesel,of course that diesel torque really pulls it to that top speed, are you planning to tune it or are you gonna keep it stock just curious.

@@chrism869 just stock is fine with me. Plenty fast enough and enjoyable on a twisty road too. Plus I have a race car for fun on the track. The 2022 cant be tuned yet anyway (Bosch ECU locked down).

@@blairmcconachie of course I presumed the ecu is locked. But hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Plus a diesel, great mpg on the highway. even at high speeds

@@HO5413 it was with the standard 310r race car suspension which I think you are correct is “m1”.

@@HO5413 you can download the regs from Caterham’s website and they will specifically mention part numbers so you can work backwards to get spring rates and damper codes.

I have heard of some cars like yours that have a higher limit. most UK cars seem to be 158mph

I would have loved to have got there a bit earlier and got more laps. 4 laps in 4 years so I wasn't quite up to speed but that was the last lap on my ticket and also the light was a lot darker than shown on camera!. Would love to return and get the time down a bit.

I would love to have a shot of a 620R round here to see what could be done 👍🏻

I need the 340d for towing and general economy when towing. Suits me the best out of the two. Also I think the m340i is also limited to the same speed.

@@blairmcconachie Can you tow a Caterham on a trailer with it Blair? I think towing limit for petrol and diesel is the same at 750kg? Oh, maybe that's just unbraked. More if it's braked?

@@WhiteRoseDrives yes that’s right, more for braked. I tow the caterham in a Brian James minno shuttle. All in it probably weighs 1.4te. Managed to get 36.5mpg for this 1200 mile trip. That includes this autobahn run!

Autobahn run was done without the trailer obviously 😂

Hi Scott, im on winters at the moment so it would make it worse anyway. However just cruising about at 70 in eco pro you will be into the 60's with a bit of care. Some had managed to just nudge 70mpg. If you join the bmw m340i/m340d uk and europe owners page on FB you can ask these questions and owners of both are on there. Very useful group.

Don’t worry you will get there, I have been a few times and track knowledge is key 👍🏻 I kind of did a road trip… was racing at spa in the 310r championship round then went straight to a TF from the track before it got dark. Tyre pressure would of been same as the race so approx mid 20’s all round hot. But didn’t check before going on I was in such a rush! One full tank and lapped till it was beyond the red!

Completely stock suspension for the 310r. Just a nice setup on the car that suits me. A little toe out at the front, a little bit of rake, max castor and about -2.5deg camber at the front.

Thanks, I would of liked more time and another lap or two to push a bit harder, but unfortunately it shut. I will have to come back for a track day and see if I can get closer to 7m40s with no traffic and a bit more familiarisation.

That would be my ideal as well. I have done them in the past and they are well run. Also you get a running head start onto the BTG lap.

Hi Ben, the third camera is done afterwards unfortunately. So all the ECU data is given to the HD2 via a racesense unit from fastmate racing, it’s also their brake pressure sender I use (hydraulic). The rear view camera is a go pro that I add in Final Cut Pro afterwards and syncs them up. footcam is the 2nd HD2 camera.

Hello 6” all round with 185/70/13 academy tyres which are quite hard and don’t have a lot of grip.

8'40'' for the first and only lap!

Hello, the microphone is in the engine bay so it’s all induction sound from the throttle bodies. The engine is a 1.8 4 cylinder k series. Without traffic I managed a 7m41 later in the day chasing a friend in an e46 m3. Search m3 vs caterham At nordschleife and you should find it. It’s a good watch

It's really a LOTUS and doesn't know there are turns in there , haha!

Narrow ,soft street tires too .
