I installed Trans-Go shift kit on my 1991 Lexus LS400 and after a lot of work and problems. I finally got it dialed in. Previously I blew the seal on my Transmission Oil Pump due to having too much fluid in the transmission, a shift kit and a lot of hard pulls in a row. I had to tear out the transmission to replace it. Everything I did was my first time ever so this is my thought process throug...

I already new that be for but still I have to tell you…your explanation is perfect!
I appreciate it man!! I tried my best to explain for people new to the platform!
Do u scrape on speed bumps at that height
no I dont. I havent scraped on anything yet. because the springs aren't very stiff and the suspension bottoms out easy I have had my tires rub 1 time turning up a driveway. but that's about it
Worst coilovers money can buy 😂
probably true but they work for my budget
Just bought one in the same spec! Looks good. I have some issues motor wise but should be good soon!
thats awesome man!! that's super exciting, I hope you love the car
Check ecu caps
my ecu is fine. I blew the oil pump seal. transmission hasn't been getting proper cooling for a long time and I didnt realize it. it was just getting way too hot
Bought these for my 94 ls400 and seriously they are the worst coilovers i've had. Spring rate was wrong for the front ones and the bushings were shots after a summer of driving.
yeah they bottom out very very easily. but im okay with it for now. I cant afford anything else
Looks like I’ll be getting max coilovers
nice! my only complaint so far is the suspension bottoms out pretty easily. stiffer springs would fix that. it doesn't bother me all that much so imma just rock it👍🏻 lmk how it goes!
I'd be thinking of putting a Jzx100 body kit on it from Kunnyz or any drift style for it but i personally dont like VIP styles they look boring compared to drift style
agreed. if I had that much money to throw at this car there would be a lot of things already done but it just hasn't worked out that way haha
Before and after - showing daylight before and nighttime after - is not a fair comparison - of course lights look brighter in the dark
I understand that, but none the less, LED will almost always be way brighter regardless. I more so wanted to show how to do the swap
Wow 🎉. I love lexus 400
me too!!
crazy the difference just coilovers and rims make for this car. Got mine two weeks ago
I know right! absolute game changer man. thats awesome! what year??
Do you know if there is a seal that can easily be popped out where that smaller circle is at 10:28? It's next to the larger circle with the "X." I was told my leak could be coming from there or on the other side where the gear selector shaft is. Was told to purchase "two Timken 221207 seals. Transmission does not come out. One side takes 3 minutes to change. Other side you remove part of exhaust, shift attachment then seal. About 45 minutes. Pan doesn’t even come off. Seal pops out from outside." I can't find any videos on how to replace them though and want to have a visual and make sure I'm doing it right.
I'm not sure on that one, I havent heard of it leaking through that seal. I'm sorry I dont have a good answer for that
was thinking about getting these but also maxxing them out, how low do you think itll be off the groud?
if u have the different sleeve like I had to get you could slam it as low as you want pretty much. the only problem that people struggle with when slamming it with these coilovers is that the springs are not stiff enough and u need to either get different springs or just get a nicer set of coilovers. but if you want to ride at the same height as me or maybe a little lower you could probably make it work
Riding on 18's or 17's? Tires? Typically 18's look the best in my opinion.
I'm on 18s👍🏻
Good job man, did you ever get your shifting issues resolved/ fixed? The strip might be a tad much, but it is your car!
yes I did! sadly now reverse is slipping which sucks but it shifts great right now. I thought I was going to be too but I honestly really like it
There's rust in the back of the cab in mine too. But the wabbits coming along bub
appreciate it man!
restoring a 1994 ls 400 currently, glad to see other people are STILL building these
thats awesome!
Love your ride height. Right where I will be putting mine. But think I am going with the T6 units with dampening adjustments. Great job once the lex looks great. And congrats one award.
these coilovers have dampening adjustment on them as well! I appreciate it man, I really like the height as well. thank you!! let me know how they turn out!
What are the specs of your rims and tires. Weight and offset
18×8 +35 offset on my wheels tires are 225/40ZR18 92W
Great video. Liked and subscribed.
appreciate it man!!
Thanks so much Ezra. You have a natural ability to teach and explain!
thank you! I appreciate it a lot!!
what kind of transmission issues made you do this? i have a 1990 and a few months back it was not accelerating uphill and it almost felt like it was slipping. its not doing it as often now but when i push the second accelerator or kick down there is a delay before it actually accelerates. i bought the trans filter already and am waiting on solenoids as well. any other things i should focus on? i also replaced the fluid with valvoline type 4 atf a few months back. thx for any advice!
replacing fluids, adding some platinum lubegard additive to ur tranny, make sure your cooling system for your transmission is working (like your electric fans), make sure your fluid levels are good, replace those shift solenoids, and replace the filter👍🏻 your doing about all the right things man. I dont think I would recommend a shift kit to fix any of your problems, but a shift kit is fun. if you have any transmission fault codes I would check those as well. but yeah, just keep checking all your bases! I hope you get it figured out!!!
The O/D off isnt for odometer its for overdrive I'm fairly sure
did I say odometer? I meant overdrive!
I installed LED head lights on my 91 LS400 and when i did my Fog lights were no longer functional. All it would do was turn the brights on. I was curious to see if yours does the same or if your fog lights turn on still after installing. Thank you.
my fog lights have never worked. all it does is turn the brights on, same as yours. i tried replacing the bulb with LED bulb and it still didn't work. I'm not sure
Oh dang oh well. Thank you for the fast reply. Looking forward to your next LS400 video.
Bro I appreciate tf out this video
I'm glad this helped man🤙🏻 hope you figure out your problem
@@sexus400what if the check engine like isn’t pausing
@@SarrioVisionaryif either light continuously blinks with no pause, that means you have no codes
yeah, what the other comment said. if it is constant blinking. you have no codes👍🏻
Hell yeah! It is coming along! I can't wait to see where it's at when I get home!
appreciate you buddy🤝🏻 the progress is coming along super fast
How is the visibility when driving at distance with the LED?
what do you mean? how far do my headlights shine? or how good can other drivers see my lights??
love it 😍😍😍😍
Goooooooood 🎉🎉
I love those Rabbit Pickups and would definitely have one as a run around vehicle, I dream of one with a newer 1.9 liter diesel, (I would Never "Roll Coal" because I'm old and it means that the turbo isn't intercooled but I totally get it) It's a cool project.. and maybe I'll see what you wind up asking for the thing
I love these pickups too! my dad said the same thing but he did the same thing I did as a kid😂 he actually had semi stacks coming out of the bed on his. I appreciate the comment!
What are those headlights from the thumbnail?
it is a light bar from "Flux Geare"
@@sexus400 Appreciate you brotha!
@@sexus400 I've been really looking at getting one of those hoodbeam kits, you mind uploading a video or some more pictures of yours?

Not the strip 🤢🤢
strip???

Hello, how are you? I have a Lexus like yours. I love it, but I have a problem with the anti-lock gear. It lights up on the speedometer, TRC OFF, and the engine chuck, and I do not know the solution. I hope you help.🎉😢
I dont really have any experience with that, im sorry. have you done any research on it??
@@sexus400 Yes, and I did not find the solution. Everyone says to check the codes, but I do not know the method because it is old

when you get a fault code number. Google it and it will give you a general idea of what is wrong
Hey Ezra your video came at such a good time. Usually don’t comment cause don’t expect a respond but I was wondering the part number on that transmission fluid pump? Or where I would be able to get a refurbished one? Thank you brotha have a good day n Uz forever!!
I got a refurbished one off of ebay, it was the incorrect one but I was able to use parts off of it and it worked out👍🏻 I explained how I put the oil pump together in either this video or the next one. The part number for the oil pump body was 3530135010. and the part number for the stator shaft it was 3537050010. I got these numbers off of the Lexus Website. This is for a 1991 Lexus LS400. Lmk if you have any other questions👍🏻good luck! parts.belllexusnorthscottsdale.com/p/Lexus_1991_LS-400/BODY-SUB-ASSEMBLY---FRONT-OIL-PUMP/63199593/3530135010.html
the refurbished ones off of ebay are significantly cheaper generally. like I said before you'll have to look at this video or the next to see how I put the oil pump together👍🏻
2 questions for you man and great video btw you did great making it understandable for new people. I got my 93' ls400 a few weeks ago and one of its main issues is transmission problems. it says there's a short on solenoid valve 2 and I was thinking doing this would be a great opportunity to fix that. Where did you get your replacement solenoids? it does not look like they come as a part of the kit, and also do you know which valve is no.2? thinking it might be one of those other valves. anyways ill probably just replace all of them while I'm down there, thanks!
I believe I bought mine off of Rock Auto. the OEM solenoids are crazy expensive so I went with the ones from them. there were a couple different options to choose from on there. I got most expensive option that was like 100 bucks and some change and it was plug and play. it worked great. with the one I bought, it replaces both solenoid 1 and 2. might as well replace them both while you are down there!
I definitely would recommend just trying to replace those solenoids for now if your having any transmission problems at all. then refill it back up with Toyota specific transmisison fluid. I believe it is called "Toyota Type-IV". with that if you were really wanting to take good care of your tranny lol. add some Plantinum LubeGard transmisison additive that you can find at O'Reillys. But if your feeling ambitious go for the Shift Kit! it is definitely a big task. just be prepared to possibly end up dumping more money into extra cooling etc. You will see in my next video coming out in about a week that I had to fix some major transmisison cooling problems (I don't think the Shift kit caused it necessarily). Good luck to you anyway tho man!! you will definitely love your newest purchase😁
sorry for the overhaul of info😅😅
I have a 1991 As well I did the headlights awhile ago and the signals have always bothered me now I know the jobs gonna suck! but seeing your results are very satisfying and pushing me to get it done. p.s I watched your last vid and am also an apprentice electrician but in Canada. small world coincidence lol. I just got the tint done as well and those reverse lights are necessary!
it's definitely a pain in the ass!😂 but it's definitely worth it. it really is a small world! it's really a great trade to be in. the Canada border is only a couple hours away from me too, that's hilarious😂
Tkns
what?
Hey man, as you know I have to redo this entire transmission job because I overfilled my fluid and destroyed my seals. I do live in az, so I can pick up the parts today that you have on your link. I was just wondering what we're all the seals and bearings and stuff you bought to do this job? Thanks again
I bought the inner seal for the oil pump, the outer O-ring for the oil pump, the 2 seals for the back of the oil pump and the rear main seal. I never did end up putting that in though. as for part #s I'm not exactly sure, I'd have to go look them up. if u find the part numbers on that link I could confirm parts if u needed👍🏻 lmk how it goes!
@sexus400 thanks my man. Mine is a 97 but it seems like they are all the same parts. I'll let you know how it goes!
awesome! good luck man!
Dude thank you. I just put my new transmission in and it seemed all fine. The next day, I parked for a few hours after driving, went back out to a huge puddle. I'm genuinely so pissed off but this made it seem not as difficult to do... again
thats so frustrating, man. just push through! i hope it works out better this time!!
The transmission is very very pucky about what kind of fluid you put in it (ask me how i know) you cant just use regular fluid you buy at an auto parts store. You have to get type 4 trans fluid directly from lexus. It is very pricey but well worth it. From what ive talked to with trans mechanics,it has a higher viscosity and different types of detergents,so what ive been told but from my experience seems to line up with the problems i was having with off the self fluid
yeah I've figured that out now. that's all I use now! my problems ended up being a blown oil pump seal from my transmission getting way too hot. my electric fans haven't been working & I didn't realize it.
Hello!tell me, please, do you have a book on Lexus in digital form. I'd like to know.I live in another country. It's difficult here. with instructions. and for spare parts for the box, there are also problems.
I do not have a book in digital format im sorry. I bought this book off of ebay. they seem kind of hard to come by
@@sexus400 I wanted to buy the same problem there. but here, the thing is, I'm from Russia. and eBay doesn't want to do business. on the territory of the Russian Federation. He thinks it's all the fault of ordinary citizens
wow, that's crazy. that makes working on cars way harder!
@@sexus400 I agree. but I love this car. and for her power and unique style.
I couldn't agree more!!
Little piece of electrical tape on the cluster bezel to cover up that ‘tail lamp out’ will do😆👍
yep😂😂😂
Another awesome vid bro. I did interior swap already but been putting off doing leds on the exterior but I’ll try out that relay you showed.
I appreciate it man! that relay was such a pain😂
which bulb goes into the headlight touching the fenders, im replacing all mine rn and cant find the bulb number online
ah shit. ummm. I remember it was the same bulb that went into some interior lighting, the trunk light and the license plate light. im fairly certain. cuz I had extra bulbs from the interior led kit and they just happened to be the correct size bulb. lemme see if I can give u an idea of what they were
I wanna say they were the T10
Have you had any problems with your fogs not turning on? I got a ‘94 ls400 and I’ve looked at the fogs and to me they seem like they should be turning on but they haven’t turned on and got no clue what’s going on.
yeah, my fogs have never turned on and idk why. it doesn't really bother me though
Try instant shudder fixx by lube gard makes it shift way smoother and faster at WOT i used a hayden 679 trans cooler rated for 10k towing usually drops temps by 30 degrees or more depending on location
is that stuff to mix in with my ATF, i might have to try that? I was going to go with a Hayden trans cooler but I ended up going with a different company because I live in Montana and I don't want to overcool my fluid when it is -20° outside😂
@@sexus400 yes you do mix it with trans fluid the formula is very thick i put it in a warm water bucket before opening it and pouring into trans, yeah having the trans too cold is also an issue you smart 🧠
@HumbledGod awesome, ill have to look into it! I appreciate it man!
great videos/channel where do you get your parts. i have a 92 ls400
I appreciate it man!! I have the links all on the description of the video :) I love the 1st gen LS400s, how many miles does it have?
180k seems like doing work on the front end. i have a bad pulsing when apply the brakes at high speeds. already replace inner and outer tie rods, rotors, pads...you sure know your stuff. thinking i'll buy a set of manuals off of ebay. i had been wanting to buy kind of pricy. 200 bucks plus. again great videos....helpful and informative. thanks
I appreciate it man, I hope you get it figured out!! those manuals are definitely a lil pricey but pays itself off quick!
