Javi Campos. French Polish Explained. Granada Traditional Guitar Varnisher Interview.
[choose for your subtitles in the Settings/Subtitles]
Javier Campos has varnished thousands of guitars during his career using the traditional French Polish system. Undoubtedly one of the most experienced and important shellac varnishers in the world today.
We are lucky that he has agreed to Madera to do an interview with him at his workshop where he explains his important varnishing work in the process of building a traditional guitar.
He gives us all kinds of clues here to appreciate what a well-made, hand-applied French polish with natural materials (not synthetic) is all about from the beginning of the process to the end.

I am lucky to have aa 2017 Pardo spruce/ indian and more importantly to briefly have known Antonio. The luthier was an hone st person and very competent luthier who has left his mark as a central figure in the Granada guitar making scene. The guitar is very versatile, nuanced, silky sounding, ergonomically perfect. It is my beloved guitar and for ever associated with the late Antonio and my mother who also left this futile world.

You can play whatever you want on either type of guitar. Flamenco guitars have lower action, intentional buzz and special sound that is preferred for flamenco music. Classical guitars have mellower sound, with more "sustain" that is preferred for classical and other types of music.

Flamenco guitars are a lot more ergonomic for flamenco music though. You'll occasionally see classical players playing flamenco guitars instead but I've never see a flamenco player on a classical guitar. The string height above the top plate is the big killer. You really want the strings close for golpes and so your thumb doesn't sink behind the sixth string for rasgeos.

Is there any video/website with recorded data showing the time and frequency domain characteristics of each note, and perhaps for a wide range of guitars (I.e., cheap one to expensive one)? If anyone knows of such database, please let me know. And thanks for this video.

Jose Luis is such a knowledgeable and gentlemanly person. I visited his workshop in Svilla in 2009 and we chatted for several hours and finally he recommended one of his guitars to me, which was perfect in relation to the budget I had then, and I am still very happy with the guitar after so many years. I love this man and he is a gift to all flamenco guitarists worldwide❤❤❤

The only reason I could think for not wanting to use them is perhaps not wanting to accidentally bend a note out of tune. However this is probably just a matter of getting used to the exact amount of pressure needed with your touch

Gomalaca is in fact not the resin from a tree ,it is produced by the Lac beetles which feed on the resin, they subsequently lay their eggs and encase the eggs with excretion which when dry produces the flakes which are they collected and processed to produce the gomalaca flakes.

Hello, I have an Altamira N200ce+ guitar. The frets on this guitar are thick. As seen in the video... I am satisfied and it feels solid while playing. If I were to buy a guitar again, I might choose a guitar with thick frets like this. But this guitar has "WOLF NOTE" on G and C notes. I didn't know how to handle this. I wanted to say.
