  • Learn here three different ways to get the frequency of your guitar.
We are dealing here with a topic that is kind of a popular topic these days, I see many people talking about it, and I would also say a very controversial topic. Some people among guitarists and guitar makers, dealers … give it a lot of importance, others less and others even not at all.
And the question is : Is this correct? Does it make sense? Does it have that importance?

Many have tried to improve and achieve a formula for guitar construction using science, there has been a small measure of success but really insignificant to warrant major changes in guitar construction. There are many variables in guitar construction, then raw materials being the primary factor…….like humans every single piece of wood is unique and requires the experience and a well developed sixth sense from the luthier to maximize the tonal qualities to achieve a great guitar. The top being the most important of all…..yes we can look and debate about frequencies but ultimately the guitar making processes have experienced very little changes over the last 100 years……surely there must be a reason for this,it is not through lack of trying but more to do with understanding the material at hand…..thanks god guitar making is still an art form and not a process governed by formulas…..other than the fret spacing of course.
Great channel ,I hope you soon get more subscribers,…..good luck!

Very interesting all what you comment here. Thanks for your contribution. The frequency I thought was not important but I had several discussions with the last winner of Granada Guitar Making Competition this year about it. Francisco Jiménez who is a very young guitar maker (26) The thing is that the guitar by him is so good and he has in mind things like frequency and I guess all of it takes influence in the final result as he affirms. We can talk so much about it... But it is true that I also believe still many other factors are out of the "scientific" approach, of course!! Like so many things in life!. Thanks Richard!!

Great vid! I think it is important NOT to have let’s say, F on the top and F sharp on the back, or neck. If you do, that interval would interfere with everything you play on the guitar. And it won’t sound nice at all… As well for a 4+ interval

Surely it’s the sum of all parts. Consistency in quality of build is what we are looking for. Personal aesthetic is another determining factor and the guitars purpose is also influential.

    Two things I wonder:
    1) Could you inject frequencies into the sound hole with a tone generator, and then monitor the volume levels with a decibel meter to determine the overall resonant frequency?
    2) Would a guitar with a frequency of E would resonate louder when played in open E ?

      1. Probably 2. The frecuency shouldn't be on an exact note. On one exact note can results in problems. Always better between notes. And shouldn't sound louder. Regards from Granada.

Saludos.
