I hate to burst all of your bubbles, but look this up on UA-cam "Union Pacific Railroad Big Boy 4014 Steam Engine in Feather River Canyon with bridges" That video was shot on July 11th, and guess what, the Diesel was back. Don't know why, but there it is. Either the electronic package that was stashed in the tender failed or malfunctioned, or the Diesel is need for help with braking after all. I will find out when it returns to Cheyenne, since I live here.

The algorithm is weird. This is only the second new Big Boy video I've seen since that incident in which it helped a stalled freight train last year (the first one, just moments before clicking on this one, I couldn't comment on due to that pesky Made for Kids label). Now my itch has been scratched.

How come no diesel? Ever since I heard the arguments on why they always had a diesel, it makes so much sense.

I only missed seeing this be a few days.😢 I went from Cody through Rawlins to Glenwood Springs Colorado on the 28th.

Both Shays were operated on the Museum's Loop track for several years.

Pretty awesome. As an "Original Transcon RR" enthusiast, this area reminds one of a photo A.J. Russell took in 1868, approx., showing Dan Casement, Cornelius Bushnell, his daughter, etc., while UP was being built. Russell's photos can be found on OMCA site, are quite remarkable, upon navigating past their intro page. Another rephotography opportunity is at Green River, where A.J. exposed several wet plates of Jack Casement and his guys building the permanent bridge there. THAT photo was published in Frank Leslie's magazine, revealing Russell's rise as one of the first "Photo-journalists" of his day....quite remarkable, given those times of Manifest Destiny, and limits of the technology of the era. What a beauty! I would expect to see it pulling an intermodal train, maybe a bulk, heavy or automotive train. It has the power to do it, we already saw the Challenger pulling an intermodal with power and even with the 844, why wouldn't this beauty do it?

I didn’t see an assist diesel up forward in the consist. Does this mean her PTC system is operational? She gives every indication she is rigged and ready for some big pulls through the mountains. Wouldn’t that be epic! Seeing her back doing what she was born to do? ❤

Really enjoy your videos. If I may make a friendly suggestion, it would be to invest in a wind screen for your mic. Wyoming is wide open and windy as hell. It would enhance your production value so much if you could mitigate some of the wind noise.
