Where to LIVE (and D!E 💀) in the PEAK DISTRICT
The Peak District is one of the best places to live and explore in the UK, but where within the Peak District National park is the best place to live?
Not far from Buxton, for more than 4000 Years people have chosen to settle in and around, what is now, the village of Chelmorton. From early Neolithic settlers to the Romans, Medieval farmers straight to modern day residents, the corner of the Peak district is a prime place to live. On the limestone plateau, history doesn't lie.
Not only is it a great place to liven, proven by history, it has been a key chosen place for people to die. The key example of this from history is the Neolithic chambered tomb - 5 Wells up on the limestone plateau.
Come on this journey to Chelmorton within the beautiful landscape within the Peak District national park to see all the elements that made this a key place for life to thrive for millennia.

Starting the day (and Year) right with perhaps one of the most beautiful sunrises to be seen in the Peak District National Park, UK. As the frost glistened on the floor, I took to the air to see the sun come top on the horizon. Parkhouse hill made the perfect foreground this amazing landscape. In my opinion, there are few spots in the Peak District as special as Axe Edge. Although far less popular (and maybe less featured) than many popular Peak District spots, the solitude and calm that can be found on Axe Edge on a good evening is hard to beat. Nice roundup for people considering doing some barefoot action themselves. I agree with most, though I don't think you really need to bring a first aid kit. I haven't and it never caused any problems. I did get a few small cuts during the years, mostly when I just started walking barefoot in nature, but the human body is amazing in that sense. It bleeds for a bit, then it stops. Every single time I was able to finish my hike without problems. At home I clean my feet anyway, if there is a cut I clean it more thoroughly, just with water and keep it bare afterwards. It turns out your own body is much better in sealing the wound and healing it when you let it and not cover it up with bandaids. I started like you, in nature. Nowadays I'm pretty much barefoot 24/7. I also go grocery shopping barefoot, visiting friends and doing all the normal stuff. I bring either my sandals or my Skinners socks in the car or in my backpack if I could be in a situation where I need them. That is not for myself, but for others. In some establishments people get really upset if you walk in barefoot. I always make a decision there, either I discuss it and leave if they won't change their minds, but sometimes I really want to get in and I just grab my emergency-footwear and move on. That said, I've only had like 3 places where there were comments, only one of them actually made me wear my sandals, the other 2 just commented, but still allowed me in. Being barefoot made my feet, ankles and further up much stronger. I don't really feel discomfort when walking on pebbles or other 'challenging' surfaces. Lastly, the "broken glass" or "needles" argument many people make is total bullshit. I have only had 2 pieces of glass in my foot, once at the local beach (of all places) and once in a shopping mall, not near the glass bin or anything. Both instances I was able to get it out with my finger and it didn't actually drew blood. That's what tough feet (a small layer of callus) does. I find the line of Sabrina Fox in her talk (look it up "Sabrina Fox Barefoot Living DLDSummer 15) hitting the nail on the head and use it a lot as response on "Why don't you have shoes on?". It goes like this: "Why, did you ever hurt your fingers or hands? Yes? Why don't you have gloves on?" For those that are still on the fence, my advice would be: just do it! Take it slow in terms of making sure you don't feel too much discomfort and you take your time getting used to it. Don't be afraid of people judging you, people will do so anyway, regardless if you pursue the way you like to live. You might as well have fun and do what you want 🙂 (I have been barefooting for over 10 years now)

    • @ThomTopics
      @ThomTopics 2 місяці тому

      Firstly thank you for taking the time to watch and especially for giving such an amazing and in depth comment. It is great to hear of your own experience with barefoot and how significant this has become in your life for 10+ years. I especially like your quote about the gloves. I think the point you make about first aid kits not being essential is fair although I always have a small first aid kit in my hiking bag (if i'm out wearing shoes or not). Luckily I have never had to use it and hopefully I won't need to in the future. For how much room it takes up in my bag however I like to know that it is there 'just incase'. Thank you again for your watch and comment. Take care 😊

    • @tinokremerNL
      @tinokremerNL 2 місяці тому

      @@ThomTopics I hear you and I mostly agree. It never hurts to keep a first aid kit in your bag. I have a slightly larger one in my car, just in case, but I try to combat the idea that people going barefoot need some other kind of protection as they are not wearing shoes. For most people their hands are also bare all day and most people have had paper cuts and all kinds of other damages to their hand, yet almost nobody carries around a first aid kit all day. The shoe industry (and frankly our parents and everyone around us at this point) keep stressing about the need for protection, while this really is not the case. It always make me laugh when people state I will get hurt by broken glass or needles. Sure, not everyone lives in the area I do, but frankly, there are no needles here and not much broken glass either. Even when glass is broken, it usually sits flat on the surface, not able to penetrate my foot at all. What I'm trying to say to those new to the barefooting concept, don't be afraid, don't overthink it. You'll be fine with just a bit of common sense and without your first aid kit 😉

      Thank you so much ☺️ Yes you 100% should go to see it for yourself also 👍 It’s a great area to walk and there are also plenty of variations that you can do to make the walk either longer or shorter if you wished

    A very cool looking structure and viewpoint. Good possible day trio from Manchester?

      A good day trip option from Manchester for sure. Being close by to Macclesfield also.
