Unfortunately, there was one that regularly can't hear himself but went out of his way to interrupt others trying to make a QSO with a snarky comment. So...I called him out on air, which led to a nice conversation via email between he and I. I promote comradery with best practice...

      The ISS repeater is 145.990 uplink with a 67hz tone, receive is 437.800. You will need to account for the Doppler effect on those as well.

    Great video. I just bought an IC-820h and wasn't super happy with the GUI on SatPC32 so I picked up a S.A.T. controller. Your item-by-item descriptions are super helpful. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this so I could avoid some of the pitfalls of, as I like to say, getting a 20th century radio to work with 21st century technology. Thank you!

    Could you please create a video for Doppler settings of 9700

    • @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors
      @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors 28 днів тому

      My 9700 is controlled by the CSN Technologies SAT Controller. All Doppler is done automatically by the SAT. if you do not have access to one it’s a bit more complex. FM satellite Doppler is pretty easy. On receive you start 10khz high and work your way to 10khz lower than center frequency. The transmit starts about 2.5-5khz Low and you raise it 2.5-5 kHz higher than center point as the satellite goes overhead. The SSB satellites are a lot more complex because the transponder is taking an LSB signal on vhf and flipping it to a USB signal on uhf and vice versa. If you need further guidance shoot me an email. It is good on QRZ. 73!!!

    Nice to hear a crowded pass of ARISS. We have a busy pass only on Sundays! Just now there was a 16 degree elevation pass. I could hear and work only two VU stations. Of course you have an excellent antenna setup, while I have a very suboptimal setup. Good to see your antenna tracking the space station automatically. 73 de Jon, VU2JO

Big money gets big results, you are rocking it with what is needed to get it done and that is extremely admirable. Please keep capturing passes from India for us all to see my friend. @@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors I have recently been working through satellites and these are the first ones that died. According to forecasts, they were supposed to leave orbit in March, but they lasted until mid-summer. It has been difficult to work with them lately. They responded irregularly. Now I think it was because they began to enter the dense layers of the atmosphere Something new will appear, of course. Hades D already makes me happy

    • @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors
      @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Місяць тому

      You are correct!! They had been fairly difficult the last few passes. Stations were in and out which was out of the ordinary. I’m glad to hear you have gotten into satellites! It is a very rewarding part of the hobby. Hades-D is fun because of the challenge of hearing it. So far my furthest contact on it is just over 1000 miles.

      @@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Hades-D is like a capricious woman. You need to listen to it carefully and find an algorithm of action. Even if you understand, this does not guarantee successful work with it. This constant quest scares off operators - this is the main problem. Basically, I listen to myself on it, instead of making connections. But I really like this satellite. It is curious, this is what attracts me to it )

    How do you find powering the preamp with the 9700? Is the delay long enough and you haven’t blown the preamp up yet? I am thinking of a preamp with my setup. Appreciate the video.

    • @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors
      @W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Місяць тому

      Great question!! To this point it has been flawless. 99.9% of my time is spent using them on satellite and I run twin coax. There is just a split second when you unkey where you can hear it off, then it kicks back in. So the delay I am guessing is about a half second to turn back on. As far as the key side, It appears to drop voltage instantly and the relay kicks in. I have pushed it several times to see what happens and so far so good. Mine are rated at 75 watts FM and with my coax loss figured in I have given the VHF 80 watts output, which should be about 76 watts at the unit. Now FYI, I have noticed SHF Elektronik as lowered the rated FM on the website to 50 watts. So I am not sure if they changed them or if they had problems and told people to run less power. If I were buying today, I would not buy one rated that low. If mine blows, it'll be time to upgrade the VHF. My UHF Is perfectly fine though, I can only run 75 watts and that's the limit.
