Paddling a Cape Falcon F2 Skin on Frame Kayak to Rathlin Island
My friend Angus built this fantastic two man skin on frame kayak, designed by Cape Falcon Kayaks. We have already tried the boat in big swell, this time we tackled an open water crossing to an offshore island.

Last year I bought an x500 V1 and returned it within 3 months because it leaked. I have just bought a second hand x500 V2 because I want to paddle in places where I can't take a conventional kayak. Having made a few modifications I paddled the x500 in choppy, windy conditions, tested the handling, did a few rolls and got back in the boat after a wet exit.

      @davidpoots8362 I have a question, I filled up tubes 2-3 yesterday. The image on the kayak says 3 psi. Does that mean total for both combined or is it 3psi each side tube? The floor wants 5 psi total. My pump won't go any stronger so the side tubes I can only pump about 2.4 psi each and floor I can only fill about 4 psi. For itiwit x100

    • @davidpoots8362
      @davidpoots8362 5 днів тому

      Perhaps you need a high pressure pump because each tube should be at 10psi. That pressure gives the rigidity and excellent performance.

    • @davidpoots8362

      The PVC material wipes clean. Drying is simply a matter of using a sponge to empty out any water and leaving it inflated to dry outdoors (unless it's raining). I usually need to pack it damp and let it dry thoroughly at home. It's much easier to dry than inflatables with tubes inside fabric sleeves. You will need some patch material and PVC glue, like Stormsure.

    I was immediately impressed by the STATIONARY bracing turns while leaning IN @ 0:30. I learned about fast turns possible when at speed by leaning into the turn while putting weight on an outstretched low brace. Using the speed of the water passing underneath the paddle to provide the support. But as the boat slows down, you have to finish with a sweep to keep from going over. I was taught to turn in place by leaning on the OUTSIDE edge and sweep so that the boat chine is now forming a radius in the water that corresponds to the circle you are trying to make. I had never seen, been taught, nor ever heard of turning on the leaned edge while stationary. I can’t wait to try this!!!

      The strap is certainly not a perfect solution, perhaps because I'm trying to make a small touring kayak into a rough water sea kayak. I have tried those other braces but find they just fall off my thighs. I keep the strap very loose, which gives me support when I need it and let's me exit the boat in a capsize. That's why I tried it when I had friends nearby to do a rescue. It did work but I keep thinking about how to make some foam knee pads, sadly no good ideas yet.

Very cool with these environments, such as the castle and rockhopping opportunities, not to mention the waterfall! Amazing to have access to this. The arch is just such a cool feature. Confident and relaxed rescues by both paddler and helping paddler 🙂 This is one of those videos that certainly inspires to further paddling, development, and not least, doing some good in whatever way possible in connection with the sport. Top marks for this one! I'll take the liberty of sharing this on my UA-cam community wall as a post, given the importance of the cause.
