VERY well done. Just the explanation I was looking for. However, I now have a M2, 2022 MacBook Air (Model #A2681) will this work with that same adapter? I just ordered it but curious if you know that it will work. Also, a little side note that I just recently noticed that the 27" Thunderbolt MagSafe adapter breaks down a little further in that it is magnetized at the connection. Do you know if there is a retrofitted piece for that as well?? Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Was able to pick up a 2K display with some marks on the body and a chip in the glass on the lower edge of the front pane, not where the screen is - for about £95. Was worried when the display port cable was pre-attached, but knowing I can use a simple adapter is great

Can I use this display to my MacBook Pro m3?

It’s nice but to fully utilise that resolution wouldn’t a larger screen like 32 or 40 inch let have better productivity ? Otherwise you’re having to scale to 200% as things will just be too small on the screen?

Will this work with a Apple Studio Display instead of the LG?

I have an old Apple Cinema Display. I got confused where the part you hooked up the USB cable. Where did that USB cable connected in the back of the Cinema Display? is it USB to Mini displayport? Or was it a USB to USB? can you enlighten me here please. I already bought an adapter Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort and still nothing.

I need help. I have a Thunderbolt monitor that I purchased from an auction and a 2018 MacBook Air. My thunderbolt only has 3 usb ports. The thunderbolt has to be plugged into the first port on my Mac or it will not work. Problem is that my MacBook Air has to be plugged into that same port it it will not charge.

Today found out, this monitor also works with my Mac Mini M1 with this adapter (camera and everything). I assume also works with newer devices.

So I just picked one up and it works perfect with my older macbook air. My newer macbook for work has the new USB-C. My concern is that the thunderbolt on the monitor is slightly frayed and seems to be "sensitive". Could I do USB to USB-C or one of those other ports on the back to USB-C to get this to work? Or do I have to use the thunderbolt display cable?

I just connected a new 15" MacBook air to this 27" display per your instructions, but have not been able to select the proper display settings such that I can use the 27" display while my MacBook air is closed. This is how I usually use my current set-up with a 2012 MacBook pro. And with my old MacBook pro open, I can also use the 27" inch display as an extended display, so I can have multiple apps working on both screens and move things between the two. I have searched for info on how to do this but none of the settings suggested have worked and none of the suggestions have been for current mac operating systems. Can you point me in the right direction on how to do this? Many thx.

This worked (cheaper option) perfectly for me! Now I have a macbook pro (quite new) and a 24" cinema monitor working perfectly! Thanks. PS I could not find an adaptor that provided power to the laptop in addition to the video feed. So, I just take out the camera/audio feed! total spend, around $35 for both!

Drivers have nothing to do with the lack of 5K. It's the lack of display bandwidth. 5K at 30 bits per pixel and 60 Hz is 5120*2880*30*60 = 26.54 Gbit/s. The Thunderbolt add-in card you used has only one DP 1.2 port, which provides 17.28 Gbit/s and doesn't support compression. To run the display at full resolution, you either need to connect two DP inputs, or one DP 1.4 input if the display supports compression. Both aren't supported by this add-in card.

I have a brand new 13in macbook air M1with the ventura software. I need to extend it to an external monitor for more workspace. Will my newer version macbook air be able to easily connect to the apple 27in thunderbolt display. I do have a USB-C to 4 port USB-A Hub.

Hi. So I have been looking to use my 27” Apple Cinema Display with my PC running Win 11 and came across this little gem. All works with one exception. Each time I restart the PC or turn off and then start, the Apple screen is not seen by the PC. To fix, I have to unplug and then reinsert the DP cable or the mini DP cable. All is well until I turn all of and then turn on again. Might anyone know why that might be? Many Thanks.
