Honestly Hardcore is just a phase for most. When you are younger and in your teens you are more angsty/angry. So in essence hard Music allows you to get that energy out. It the Metal of the EDM world. But with Metal it still has more to it that keeps it lasting, like real instruments, skill to paly them, etc. I used to love Hardcore but now i when i try to put on old songs from that genre I'm like. "wtf was I listening to". Only a handful i can listen to.

Not trying to be a prick. But bro's timeline is off. The Hardcore that came before jungle wasn't ever called HAPPY HARDCORE. The 91-93 Era was known as Breakbeat Hardcore,Darkside, Jungle Tekno. Then when the scene split in late 93-94 Jungle was Jungle and that's when Djs like Dougal, Seduction, Vibes, Slipmatt went over there with it. Happy 80s pop samples replaced the Ragga samples and Darkside Synths/Stabs??? Either way, Djs who once played in the same room now had genre specific rooms- Jungle room, Happy Hardcore room, Techno room. Until eventually the whole rave was just one genre. Multiple rooms of Jungle Drum'N'Bass. It just pisses me off when people call the early Hardcore Happy Hardcore. It wasn't considered that for years later!!!

Gatekeepers killed hardcore. There were 5 artists that milked the scene fir all it was worth and did nothing to support emerging artists. Eventually people got bored of the same old big 5 fornula. What takes the piss even more is that these artists sped up the death of hardcore by fucking off to milk other genres the second hardcore needed a resurgence or got tough. Compare that to other niche scenes where youll see big artists supporting unsigned ones and grow the scene from those. Has always left a bitter taste in my mouth about Hixxy, Gammer, Styles et al as much as i loved some of their stuff.
