      @@uasupply Good Historical Civilian Maritime content like this is really hard to find and I really like your channel. The normal content of any kind (books etc) on this ship is naturally in French and I sure do not speak French. I have a very detailed scale model of this ship about 3 feet long and I was to the place in Iceland where it foundered. So I have been looking for all I can find about it...

    I think Lawson did have in his mind to even build a ship that could carry 10 000 tons of cargo, that would be double of what large carriers ship could carry these days, mind blowing,....but what ports could take Her in with that much draft? and yes sail ships of this size needed an engine to assist for sure. They could refurbish that ship for Oil carrier for sure, use it to trade with Europe.

    Awesome video, very useful information! Would you recommend container ships for a deck officer over bulk carriers?

    • @uasupply
      @uasupply 11 днів тому

      Thank you! Well...:) It probably deserves a separate video about it. If I could, I would recommend any ship that has a good international crew, a good captain and human conditions provided by a caring company. But it is very rare to experience all of these at the same time. I won't hide the fact that working on a container ship is usually more intense compared to a bulk carrier. You have a lot of ports of call, the port stay is short, the cargo operations are fast, you get tired very quickly, and many officers who have changed from a container ship to a bulk carrier remember their job like a bad dream. But, on the other hand, if you have a good environment on board, all these factors look like this: intensive work - not boring, many ports - lots of places to visit, etc.. The container ship industry is growing, ships are getting newer, salaries are quite competitive. But nothing, of course, can make you realise this better than your own experience.

    I enjoy this channel very much and this video is no exception. However, as an artist I am rather disturbed by the fact that there is no attribution for the images used. I know for a fact that some artists whose work is used in these videos are currently working and are very easily identified and this is probably the case for collections which house historic images. This is now a huge and frustratingly common problem for artists; the very least that could be done as a basic courtesy, perhaps as end credits, is to acknowledge their work so they can at least get some benefit.

But it's possible to delete all at once quitting the programme and delete some file in the system, however, I don't remember what file and where in the system, just letting you know that it's possible. • @uasupply
      @uasupply 19 днів тому

      You can pull the locking pin out and easily put it back in place, but this is not normal except in an emergency. The thing is, there is a seal on the pin that breaks when you pull the pin, so even if you hold the switch and do not activate the SART, the SART is considered used and requires battery replacement.

    It is a travesty that the people of Hawaii once again are unable to conserve their treasures. I think of Nantucket, where whaling began in the U.S., and how magnificent and well-supported its whaling museum is, and wonder why such a center remains beyond the reach of Hawaii residents. The bickering, politics and mismanagement that have led the Falls of Clyde to its dismal present condition are a shameful, shameful commentary about the Hawaii of today.

    Thanks for the info, i little bit confuse with meet her order, so if my wheel on 15 strboard and captain order it, what i have to do?

    • @uasupply
      @uasupply 26 днів тому

      You have to turn the wheel to port 15. This order, however, is very rare in practice. Some sourses say, that when after you put the wheel (in your case) port 15, wait when the ship stops turning, put the wheel midships and report "midships, course xxx". (But it looks more as "Steady" order). And in my experience the " Meet her" order means only putting the wheel to opposite side, so (in your case) to put it on port 15 only and wait for next order. Probably I missed in video, that you should report "port 15 now!" 🤦

    • @uasupply
      @uasupply Місяць тому

      Thank you! Just the Portside repeater was used for this observation. Usually all three gyrocompass repeaters (port, center, starboard) are synchronized and show the same courses, and it doesn't matter which one you use for observation. But, anyway some errors can appear from time to time, therefore it's good practice to note which repeater you have used for taking bearing.
