July 4th Fireworks 2024: I Had a Blast!
The Fourth of July is finally here! Well, July 6th and 7th for me due to the rain. I had a lot of fun this year. Because of all the firework stands I was making throughout the year, it felt like it took forever to get here. There was so much to do and film this year that we ended up having two days of fireworks. There is quite a bit that wasn’t included in this video; some things didn’t make the cut, and some things will be in future videos.
I had one more idea for the firework tree: wrapping it with 8,000 firecrackers. I thought this had a crazy effect; the smoke that was created was insane, and I thought it was funny as the smoke dissipated, all that was left is the tree frame. I was worried about how loud it was going to be, and it was extremely loud. I thought the rainbow smoke holder worked perfectly. Sometimes firework smoke can be disappointing, but these lasted a long time and had great colors. A big factor that contributed to the success of this was the little to no wind at the time of filming, which let the smoke linger around and not be blown away instantly.
I ended up liking all the stands I made this year. The 360° panoramic roman candle stand was a nice starter; I think the red, blue, and crackling was a great combination. I thought the purple and green cone-shaped roman candle stand was good, though I was a bit disappointed with having placed it where the crackle was only on one side. I was surprised with the Boom Boom tube. Because it was fused with quick fuse, I expected more roman candles to be unlit when I checked it the following day. The Sky Pattern rocket stand was one of my favorites. I thought the rockets had a nice tight grouping in the air, and the mix of effects really complemented each other. The Gumball Cannon stand was wild. The rapid succession of the shots was crazy; I just wish that last barrage candle had been successful. Because there was so much going on with this one and the effects weren’t very spread out, the display had a large amount of smoke towards the end. My favorite had to be the large roman candle stand. The mix of large and small roman candles complemented each other very nicely. All of the large roman candles were successful, but I would have liked more of the small roman candles to have been successful. That is just a potential side effect of using the zip ties for fusing.
I’m not usually a big fan of fountains, but I really liked all the ones I tried this year. I felt like each had a nice different effect. The ice cream fountain was crazy; I wasn’t expecting that long of a duration from it. I didn’t focus much on the end show this year. I only ended up fusing one 60-shot mortar rack to end the show. The rest of the cakes I bought were just lit a couple at a time.

Pedestal-Style Cigar Ashtray: Trial and Error Journey
Переглядів 5621 годину тому
This was my first attempt at making a pedestal-style cigar ashtray. I used wood from a log that had been sitting in the woods (I’m not sure how long). This is by no means an expert walkthrough on how to build one but rather a video where I’m learning as I go. Having some woodworking experience, there were aspects of this project that I was fairly confident about. There were also quite a few mom...
Fusing Fireworks 2024
Переглядів 841День тому
This was a video showing some of the fireworks fusing process I went through this year getting ready for the 4th of July. These are different stands that I've made throughout the year to try and see some cool effects. The majority of these were fused with small zip ties with the exception of the rocket stand. For the rockets I thought the firework junction was a more appropriate option than the...
Adding Firework Smoke to My RC Truck
Переглядів 583День тому
I bought this RC truck a while ago, and it's pretty fun to play with. The original reason I bought it was because I wanted to add fireworks and see if that would produce a cool effect. Adding firework smoke was my first idea, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. I think it would've been better if the RC truck could go a lot faster and handle the grass. I also wish I had another camera to get m...
Smoke Boxes

I really love the way smoke looks when it is unaffected by wind, so I made some test boxes to try and see various examples of it. For the first box, I tested a color changing ammo smoke. I think it looked cool, but I thought it filled the container a bit faster than I wanted. It was also disappointing that I wasn't able to see the orange color change. The second box was an attempt to mix the sm...
Boom Boom Tube Test

I set out to make a barrage-style stand for larger roman candles. My initial design was going to be a 5-gallon bucket with a plywood stand and bracing, but I didn't feel comfortable with the safety of that. So, I opted to buy a 2-foot-long section of a 10-inch DR11 pipe to use for the this design. Once I built a platform and installed a plug on the pipe, the pieces came together perfectly. Beca...
Memorial Day Fireworks Fun 2024

I recently built a new hybrid firework rack and wanted to try it out. This seemed like a great opportunity to try a new fireworks store I hadn't visited before: Half Price Fireworks. For this test, I mainly just picked up some smaller items, but I plan to return for larger ones to add to my July 4th stash. I liked most of the items I grabbed from Half Price Fireworks but my favorites would have...

    I got some big canister shells and I wanted to ask I'd there's a safe way to get then to launch higher? I set a few off tonight and they broke so low that stuff was hitting the ground still burning. As I have little kids this concerns me.

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication 9 днів тому

      I've heard that if you have a longer mortar tube, it will result in a higher launch. Most of the HDPE tubes I have are 12 inches but the company I buy from offers a 15-inch option as well. I've never personally tried this to know for sure, but I do want to do a comparative test in the future.

    • @scottouimet2865
      @scottouimet2865 9 днів тому

      @310fabrication could there be anything negative that would possibly happen if I cut 3-5" of one tube and secured it with hd CA glue and a few wraps of TRex tape? 4 tube's came with the pack so I gave an extra to spare. Thank you for you fast reply, I very much appreciate you doing that especially to an older video

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication 9 днів тому

      You're welcome, I'm happy to try and help. I know timing is probably not ideal to order the new tubes, but I wouldn't personally recommend doing that. I can't imagine a scenario where the CA glue and tape would be strong enough to contain the explosion in the event of a failure where a shell got snagged on the transition. I would think the result would be worse than the shells breaking low. I don't know what set up you have but if you are reloading tubes the low break could be the result of debris in the tubes. The second year I fused my HDPE racks I didn't clean my tubes out and some had leftover paper that caused a few dangerously low breaks.

      @310fabrication thanks for the advice. I have a few old bottle brushes. I could use one to clean the tube after each launch. My son turned 4 June 28 and we celebrate his birthday on the 4th and he loves fire works. He likes to pick them out and carry them to where we set them off. And now my 2 and half year old twin boys were kinds scared last year but this year they absolutely love them. The ones I got scream all the way up and pop loud and thunderous.

    You want to use a 1x3 on the bottom side brace. That way if it blows it doesn’t blow the brace off. Also you want to leave 1.5 inches coming out the top cause that’s the second most common place for a problem. I also use spacers. These three things leaves the space you need to possibly survive a CATO. Use spacers but never box the tube in. That is asking for the rack to be blown to bits.

    Best practice design is to have the top end of the bottom rails protrude no higher than the top of the plug in the bottom of the mortar. This will cause less force on thise rails and will allow the tube to expand. Also, spacers help to reduce the change of one tube failure impacting the tube next to it. Might be worth a shot of trying it out.

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication 16 днів тому

      I do really like the strength the 1.5 inch base gives and that puts it at the perfect height with the 2 inch plugs. I plan to test out a 10 shot rack with the 1.5 inch base along with spacers to see how it holds up.

    • @bigmacfullerton7870
      @bigmacfullerton7870 9 днів тому

      Yeah that’s what I do. I do a 1x3 at the bottom so it won’t be blown off in a CATO. Up top I leave 1.5 inches coming out the top cause that is the second most likely problem area. And I go with spacers also.

      It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, I was using a 3/32 rod on the 120-volt. I think I had it maxed out on amps at that setting, so 80 amps. I have limited welding experience, so those may not be the appropriate settings. I think the steel I used was mild steel; I'm pretty sure it was some A-36 I ordered online.

    Smoke balls have oxidizer in them. You can throw them in water and they will still make smoke. So blue ball shouldn’t be able to choke out yellow. Smoke balls in my experience have poor quality control and yellow was probably just not a good one. Source: I always tried to combine smoke balls for July 4th and they always would ignite at different times or one ball would totally over power the other.

      Thank you for sharing! I love hearing different finishing techniques. Im going to have to try the tung oil/wax combo to see how I like it. I also want to try the Odies oil at some point. Each time I go to the sawmill, it's on the shelf saying, 'Buy me, buy me!' 🤣

    Nice zipper cake 310 but I am not hard to impress with zippers. I love zipper cakes and I know I am crazy because they usually cost a lot and most people don’t think they are worth it. Very nice demo

      Haha same, I love zipper cakes as well. I remember the first time I ever bought this, I thought it was crazy.

    So much lumber, labor, and material for so few shots.

      It was definitely a decent amount of time but worth it to get to see more tube explosions and expand my understanding a little further 😁

      I haven't tried any cakes from them yet. I bought the cake assortment from Pyro Planet shown in the video. I saw another cake that I liked called "Grillin N Chillin"

    Great work! I agree with you on making the grooves for the cigars a bit bigger. Otherwise you have some great ash trays!

      Thank you! Yeah, I started to make larger ashtrays, and someone suggested using a 1-inch forstner bit to make the grooves 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep. I like that a lot better, it fits a wide range of cigars more comfortably.
