    That’s exactly what what happens when you load a shell upside down.

    This was a great video and very informative. I built my racks with all 2x4 and 1x4 on the sides without spacers. Nice demo fab

      Thank you! That's what I'm leaning towards myself, I can't wait to see how they perform 😁

      I did too but I am changing them to a 1x3 on the bottom side rail and I’m adding spacers. The 1x3 holds the tubes in but sits low enough to miss the explosion of a blown tube so it stays in place during a CATO. The spacers also allow for the tube to expand without taking out the ones next to it. It’s sucks you lose some tubes but it’s a lot safer this way

    You need to try a couple racks with an overload shell. Like a master 7 or ganja 7 and a salute canister shell. I imagine nothing is going to survive those. And there are tons of kids lighting those off in the middle of streets with people everywhere.

      I will keep those in mind for future tests. I can only imagine the racks would be toast!

      I have yet to see a rack take an OL shell and not be blown to bits. Most shells are well below the 60g limit, with a few coming in close. Those OL shells are pushing 100g in some cases. And salutes... bye bye rack.

      Haha, I know right! That camera was almost toast 🤣. Thank you! I have plans to test more designs in the future.

    You need spacers between the end mortars and the end boards as well.

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication Місяць тому

      Good point! There should be some space for tube expansion on the ends as well.

    You want to use a 1x3 on the bottom side brace. That way if it blows it doesn’t blow the brace off. Also you want to leave 1.5 inches coming out the top cause that’s the second most common place for a problem. I also use spacers. These three things leaves the space you need to possibly survive a CATO. Use spacers but
    never box the tube in. That is asking for the rack to be blown to bits.

    Best practice design is to have the top end of the bottom rails protrude no higher than the top of the plug in the bottom of the mortar. This will cause less force on thise rails and will allow the tube to expand. Also, spacers help to reduce the change of one tube failure impacting the tube next to it. Might be worth a shot of trying it out.

      I do really like the strength the 1.5 inch base gives and that puts it at the perfect height with the 2 inch plugs. I plan to test out a 10 shot rack with the 1.5 inch base along with spacers to see how it holds up.

    • @bigmacfullerton7870
      @bigmacfullerton7870 Місяць тому

      Yeah that’s what I do. I do a 1x3 at the bottom so it won’t be blown off in a CATO. Up top I leave 1.5 inches coming out the top cause that is the second most likely problem area. And I go with spacers also.

    What shells were you using??? Not the name brand but like a 60g canister shell or a little festival ball shell. Huge difference. Ok after watching the video and seeing the tube damage they were 60g canister im assuming

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication Місяць тому

    What Linda tubes ?? Why exploding like that ?

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication 3 місяці тому +2

      Great questions! These were all DR11 tubes. They exploded like that because I set them up to intentionally fail. That way, others can see how these tubes expand without having to try it themselves.

      Exactly what is causing the failure though? That way I don't do that by accident at some point

      I have not yet settled on a design I want to offer to sell yet, but there are several companies that I know of that offer mortar racks. There is Pyroboom, Great Lakes Mortar Racks, and Mortar Supply just to name a few. If everything goes to plan I hope to have my own design to offer later in the year.

    So what you're saying is not to put the shells upside down, gotta not one of them shot into the air.

    • @310fabrication
      @310fabrication 21 день тому

      Yes, you definitely don't want to do that. One thing I learned from these tests is that I like the 1.5 inch base for a standard rack.

      It was definitely a decent amount of time but worth it to get to see more tube explosions and expand my understanding a little further 😁
