    I’ve got a 135 massey Ferguson diesel and a 4600 ford diesel. One point I want to point out about your trans/hydraulic fluid. On my 4600 they do take the same fluids, but, are actually 2 different reservoirs. There is a seal between them. To check the hyd fluid, which comes from the rear diff, you have to unscrew a plug down beside the diff lock pedal, and pour fluid in the plug behind the seat until it runs out of the hole

    Those Ford tractors were legendary reliable. Especially the 3000 unit. Like most of the tractors in that range of power (35hp to 45hp). We are talking about 50 years old tractors here. I own a 1967 Selectamatic David Brown 880. All restored. It was built like a tank for a 43hp tractor. But I won't get thru another restoration again. Not because it doesn't worth it. From your description on the wiring issue, honestly, replace the distributor cap, points and condenser. As for the starter, replace the bendix drive, those are easily done. Many will tell you to replace the points and condenser and go with electronic ignition, with today's "quality", wasting money on doing so. I had a Ford 881 SoS, had a similar issue, get warmed up and ran solid for an hr or 2 then just quit. Had to do some digging and the cap was cracked internally. Couldn't see the crack until it was hot. Fords were always a solid tractor. If these 2 tractors have been sitting for a while like you said, just go ahead and service them now, fresh fluids goes a long ways, specially when diagnosing issues. The hydraulics, there can be many issues to cause them to not work. Stuck valves, rust, so many things. You'll want to get a high pressure gauge and some hoses with couplers, you'll be spending some time fooling around with the valves, check valves first. If you're lucky, it's just a check valve that needs work, if not, you'll be digging into the pump. Glad to see them running again at least.

    I have several Fords, 2N, 2600, 3400 and 4400. The last three with 3 cylinder gas engines. All have been very reliable over thousands of hours of use. Despite being old they always run. I have converted two of them over to electronic ignition which has definitely improved the reliability and removed the maintenance of ignition points/condenser. The cost was about $80 per tractor. That 3000 appears to have the more reliable Zenith carburetor which I have found to be better than the Holley unit you sometimes see. Look like the 4610 has a CAV/Lucas injector pump, which is common to many Fords, Masseys and even JDs of the era. I've been around two now which develop leaks over time in the o-rings around the throttle and/or cutoff shafts that stick vertically out of the top (rectangular dome) of the pump. Mine went a few years leaking when it ran, and then started leaking while it sat- just like what you described. If you have access to the pump, the o-rings can be changed right on the machine without removing the pump and without messing with timing, etc. It took me with a little help from my 12 year-old about 20 minutes to do the whole repair once we cleaned up the greasy dirt around the area. Parts were $9 on amazon- o-rings, washers under the stud nuts and a new gasket for the dome. Not a drip since! Look for CAV Lucas O-ring videos on youtube. There are a bunch showing what's needed. You and your grandpa (and the garage floor) will be happy! Thanks for the great vid, and glad you can support our grandfather in this way. I'm sure he likes knowing someone's looking out for this stuff, even if he can't use them himself anymore. Good luck!

      Thank you for this tip! The injector leak is on the list to get fixed up on this unit after the hydraulics get sorted. It is great to hear that it could be a inexpensive and simple job. Funny you mention the floor. This poor floor has seen so much over the years, we have always kept multiple buckets of speedy dry to help catch the next leak. Thank you for watching!

    According to your production plate your fork truck should pick normal pallets up from the floor either via it being a reach truck meaning your forks should scissor out like a car jack on its side or your stabilizing arms/legs should either manuelly or hydraulically pivot out. If this didn't happen it would essentially make your truck completely useless. Who wants a fork lift that cant fork from the ground nor could it put anything on pallet racking usless there was totally free space under the racking . U need to check it out properly to see if the in out cylinder has been disconnected as their should be a button or lever for it in the cab

    • @savvysprocket
      @savvysprocket 11 місяців тому

      It seems this unit did have a reach system at some point however it has since been removed. I do have side shift on this unit but that still doesn't help pickup anything that doesn't fit between its legs. With that said this unit has been helpful in demo and the shop projects up until this point. Time will tell if it is helpful enough for my needs or if a replacement will be better in the future. A counter balance unit would be nice to not ever have the legs in the way.

    Best cheapish engine I've every used in an engine replacement has been the Air cooled Deux Diesel. In my experience the 2,3 or 4 cylinder Deux is a great little worker which I've consistently managed to buy at great prices. I buy them from the junk non running Row at some Auctions or from junk yards. The tins tend to be completely rust out or great 1 or the other. I don't try buying the engines themselves at junk yarde as I've learnt my lesson where I was charged more for the engine alone than the hole machine making out I want it for spares or too try to repair. The machines from1960/70 seem the best. Earth rollers, 2 cylinder wacker old rotten gensets. Got charged $400 bucks for 4 machines at the last junk yard but got him down to $350. I later sold the shells of the old equipment for $250 & kept some really useful spare parts which I know I can sell over time for a good $500 As it happens all 4 engines were cracking little units. I've already refreshed & fitted 1 of those 3 cylinder units to a good friends whose skid steer was junk. I charged $950 for the rebuilt motor with new tins which I fabricated myself plus I completely refreshing the paint on both the engine & machine total cost to him $2000 for the whole job, mates rates. That was just over 2 years ago when parts took ages to arrive & if they did they'd cost a fortune so could have charge alot more . He's been loving it ever since its been completed. I also managed to fit his old engines turbo without alot of hassle, he reacons it got way more power than his old 4 cylinder diesel ever did .

      I don't think I'll be swapping the engine in this unit but fitting up a diesel with more grunt would be nice. If I end up going to a replacement however videos will follow with that work for sure! Thanks for checking this one out.

      @savvysprocket Рік тому

      Mine does have a vacuum pump that I have yet to test. It was removed from the truck when I got it so the pump itself might have a problem or the wiring for it. Still need to test on that.

    Thanks for the videos. I have recently acquired a 632 and have some similar issues. I’m curious about all that excess oil which drained out of the chain case. My understanding is that the level should only be to the bottom of that drain, so wondering why yours (as was mine) was so overfull. Do you think that hydraulic pump seal you replaced was the culprit? I would t think that oil would end up in the chain case. Wondering if you have checked the chain case since that repair to see if it is still filling up. My theory is that one of the drive motors is leaking into my chain case but reluctant to rebuild them as they are working well when the fluid reservoir is full.

    • @savvysprocket
      @savvysprocket Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! On my unit the excess fluid in the chain case is due to the drive motor seals leaking into the case. The leak I have is pretty slow as after having it run for a bit the level in the chain case stays the same. I would guess you are having the same issue. Like you said however the motors are working well with the reservoir topped off so a rebuild on those will wait until it is really needed.
