Smart approach
Only thing he got wrong is... 1 long is ALMOST equal to 2 short. If you do 3 short you are going to be left with about 3 weeks left before opening day, not allowing you to do another program. When a program says 5-6 weeks, it takes 6 weeks, it never changes and if it says 3-4 months, once again it will be 4 months, it will never be 3. Now when you can only do 1 long and 1 short in the total of the off-season and your long is 3-4 (4) months and your short are 5-6 (6) weeks, that means 2 short = 1 long and that only leaves you with enough time for one more short. So maybe he has a typo and meant 1 long almost equals 2 short? You can ALWAYS, as long as you start one the day the lab opens, run 1 long and 1 short program. (this is also as long as on the day the long program concludes, you get that short program picked, you can't afford to miss a day.) Also, I would never say that short are better than long. If you have prospects that can utilize the hitting/pitching programs, I would use them, and for pitchers, ALWAYS use the Improve Secondary Pitch. Then on second programs, yes, use defense or running. Even use improve defense on your pitchers. Also, when picking defense, make sure you keep an eye on where your player is being trained at, as it chooses your highest rated position, that you are trained at. So if your guy is a 3B rated and trained as a 60 but, he is rated and trained at 1B at a 70, he is going to be in the defense program as a 1B, not a 3B.
did they remove this in a recent update? I just ran through the first dev lab of the offseason but wasn't able to select defense again, it just says "Attempted" now in a greyed out, unclickable box. disappointing if so :(
He made this post 3 weeks ago... You have not been able to spam defense since like 3 weeks after the game release, when it was patched then. Also he does not say, anywhere in this video, that you can run the defense lab over and over on a single player. Listen at 4:55 He says "Place players that have already attempted at defense in for baserunning or base stealing"

Great to see you back! What would you recommend for pitchers in the dev lab? Is it worth putting them in or just focus on hitters? It might make for a great follow up, even if it is very short. Keep up the awesome work!

I recall a few years back when PT came out, Markus & co swore up and down that this was not going to happen. That the resources would help them build a better base game. People were nervous, and now in hindsight they were right to be. I stopped buying a few years ago, although i did just buy 25

I've been playing OOTP for 14 years and I have never once played PT. I knew this was going to happen. The sad thing is, I'm STILL blown away with the lack of improvements in the non PT side of the game.

A) When Markus sold his game and IP to a Korean phone company B) They care more about the 3D graphics engine. These two things are what are causing ootp get worse every year.

Can anyone here point me in the right direction to understand how RP fatigue affects a starting pitcher? In my fictional league I sometimes see starters brought in as relief pitchers (I have very rarely done this myself only in emergency extra inning situations). When I look at my opponent's substitution screen I added SP fatigue and RP fatigue and their starters all have low RP fatigue %,, but good SP fatigue. I just can't seem to find any explanation on how these two stats interact. Surely a starting pitcher with low RP fatigue has some affect on his ability to start, right?
I can see EA buying them out.
Honestly I think a lot of these problems go back much further than OOTP 24. I bought every version of OOTP from 6-15 because they actually made large changes but ever since about OOTP 13 I think the changes the improvements they have made have been quite underwhelming. For example, the MLB sim engine has gotten incrementally better, but prospect development and minor league play have been extremely unrealistic for over a decade now.
re: catchers starting ~120 games - any thoughts on putting two catchers in the starting lineup, but alternating which one is at catcher and which one is at DH? Is this a viable way to get maximum bang for buck from your catchers, or does catcher generally not have enough league-wide depth of offensive talent to justify spending the DH slot on a catcher?
Generally, I think the better investment would be platooning your catchers (vR and vL) and not target elite options usually since you'd then optimize each catcher's production at a lower cost (without consuming the usual platoon roster slot). Definitely wouldn't endorse the DH strategy.

Thanks for this. Any tips on setting scouting priorities? My scout always comes back with half a star rated international amateur players with half a star potential even when I have my priority set with a minimum quality. Im only 1 season down, but ive not found anyone worth signing yet.
I do agree with most points made in this video and for the most part I agree with not using stats as some are flawed based on the game engine. One key point not brought up is the delayed scouting reports. I've seen numerous examples of hitters drafted in rounds 6 or later with 35/50 power current/potential from my scout with a very high accuracy report within the previous few months to go on to hit a crazy amount of HR's in rookie or low A. Than I request another report and it still doesn't come back as improved from 35/50 rating but all of a sudden in the offseason it jumps like crazy to 55/60. It's clear from those examples that the on field performance predates the scouting report changes so for those examples statistics are invaluable. In your examples in the video you were talking from a 100% scouting accuracy examples but in franchise mode almost everyone I assume doesn't play with 100% accuracy on so my above example becomes very frequent.

Ive ignored PT since its inception but I still keep coming back hoping to happen upon a believable 3D play experience to match the statistical brilliance in OOTP. Funny how over the years theyve boasted improvements in each release but yet here we are at 24 and this is what we have haha. I dont ask for much, after all i loved Earl Weaver baseball on the Amiga. I know it’s been forever, but do you have any insight on how catcher/SS defense impacts in 24 compared to 23? Is it similar or closer to the old 22 and prior model
If someone complains about the gacha format on discord, the whales come out in force and say that the game would not exist without them. These old guys pay 5k easily without complaining. If only they would take some type of stand, things would improve.
Once Markus sold the game I knew it would be headed in a money grab PT. Once he leaves for good this game is toast.
