If i want to use an externel preamp outboard :it is possible to bypass the preamp on lv1?and how to do?
What’s the difference between just sending the monitor mix out prefader to the iem vs using the matrix?
When using the matrix you can adjust the aux level (for your que) without it having any effect on the level going to the musician. And you can adjust the level going to the musician without it having any effect on what you hear. You could also put a master eq on the matrix if the musician would like some strange eq to compensate for the IEMs or something without it having any effect on what you hear. It's absolutely not necessary, but it gives you a few more features.
Ever had a total meltdown of everything, as for a no show?
Not once in 30 years. It has been close a few times :) I've had mixers die, stageboxes burned, power failure, rain (oh the rain ...), beers in gear, 5G antenna interference ... But there is always a show :)
Any tests on how it works when theres feedback on live setting? Artifacts or odd behavior?
I've been pretty conservative with the settings so far. And only just used it for FOH, not on anything going to monitors. But so far there has not been any issues.
yeah, in ear and then you need software to fix the natural hearingproblem in an IEM situation! i still play with subwoofer and top as monitor and in case i have a song with click and sequencer i use my headphone and then back to real sound! call me oldschool but for me thats the best way to play live. i hear the whole environment how it really is and i can adjust my dynamic at any moment fitting the environment sound and dynamics perfectly. but thats just my thing, maybe 99% of the rest of the world hate me for this and play with IEM..!! I am not against, but i dont see any advantage in it (as a drummer / musician) for me personally. As a mxiginengeneer i love it, because the stage is much quiter! :-P
Thanks for sharing. IEMs are great, sometimes. Wedges sometimes. I just did a few shows with swing bands. If I had suggested IEMs I would have been fired 😅 What’s great is that these days there are solutions for every situation and preference.
@joevegna Another thought is if the host and FIT lose connection, you could have a tablet for a Redundant wireless control in that case .
I think the wireless control dies of the host lose connection since it's just a mirror of the host. However I have another redundant solution coming up so stay tuned.
@joevegna Awesome! Cant wait to tune in and see what it is.
Hi Joe, since you applied server beside the stage now, not in foh rack anymore in your MK3 foh case. How Do you become gain master in FOH? How about the monitor mixer? Does monitor now act as LOCAL (digital trimmer)? If that so, now you just utilize 2 switches instead of 3 switches pictured in the diagram in this begining part of videos, right? Stage switches utilize by i/o boxes, server and LV1 monitor machine and outputing a long network cable to going in to FOH switch utilize by host, digigrid D, virtual soundcheck machine, smaart, etc right?
First: The only thing that has changed from the diagram is that the foh server now is connected to the main switch (center image). If you always have the same setup it would make sense to just have one switch on the stage. But since we do a lot of different setups for different shows we always do it as shown in the diagram. About gain master: When setting up, the first console to add a stagebox becomes the gain master. No matter where it's located. Normally we add all stageboxes to the monitor console and then share it to the foh. But you can do it the other way around as well. So to make it as simple as possible you would have just 2 switches. One on stage for all servers, IO and monitor host. One on foh for virtual soundcheck, foh host, foh IO, smaart/tract. However ... I have some updates I will share shortly. Everything above is still true, but with some extra features.
Not using emo iem?
Since the release of emo iem we have not been touring. For one offs it’s a bit faster with traditional stereo.
@ plans to try it next tour?
Yes I have a tour this spring where we will try it. And hopefully more to come.
Well this is fun!
Hope you got some inspiration 😀
I've been looking into this mixing system, and your videos have been great. Thanks!
Thanks for saying that, appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
Спасибо, очень интересный гость! Желаю тебе ещё больше гостей и просмотров в новом году!
Interesting, but whats the difference to just send everything post fader? That way we can still use faders to mix..?
That’s exactly what I do!
And sometimes that’s how Filip does it. This is just a starting point. Sending everything post wold effect everyone if you do fader moves. That’s not always great. So often it’s a combination of pre and post.
Interesting for sure. At the beginning it didn't make any sense, but it does now. Sounds like in order to do this on eery aux the console needs more matrix outs.
Absolutely right. If you have more than 8 monitor systems going you have to skip the matrix part of it. Everything else can still be in play though. We've done this a few times lately. And if everyone has the patience to trust the process it's remarkably fast.
Interesting take on mixing monitors that way! How do the musicians control there mix? iPad, phone etc?
Filip does the mix for the musicians while I mix FOH. So musicians don’t have to do anything. If someone would prefer, we offer iPads.
It was cool to learn about sidechaining with the other instruments and not just the kick and bass! Thank you!
Yes, sidechaining is a cool little trick that can be used in a lot of different ways. Glad you like it and thanks for watching.
Nice
Hear me out.. I’ve been using tract the past 8 months or so. I originally set it up to use the RTA from Smaart. I received decent results with that. Always seemed awful bright tho. I was using the pre programmed target curves. But, I created a new target curve inside of Smaart that resembles to L’acoustics curve. I was able to save it as a curve inside Tract. (This took a lot of work to get it correct. I had to invert my capture inside Smaart and send it over a virtual interface into tract.) I also switched over to using the transfer function. The high range band is set to 0. And the low band range is set to -15. My range is 20hz to 20khz. frequencies. I use this on my master. It then goes into a Galileo for time alignment / any additional tweaks. I take the FIR offset and pull it down to where the “boosted frequencies” are at the 0 amplitude range. You would think that it would sound the same wherever the FIR is set to… it doesn’t. I’ve had great success doing it this way.
Well there are a lot of ways to skin a cat. You obviously put som effort into this to find a way that works for you. I agree that something close to the Lácoustic curve is the way to aim for. Right now I only use Tract as an EQ, I don't import anything from Smaart. I find it easier to do my measurements in Smaart, try to make some sense from the data and then apply EQ as I see fit. Nice to get some other perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Really good video. Thx!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
Another great video, thank you very much! I found an interesting one today. As i have another network with wlan-router for remote control anyways, i thought i could use this one for the connection between Smaart and Tract as well. So far so good. But when i disconnect my Smaart PC from the network, without closing Smaart before, (it doesnt matter if the connection is by wlan or lan) lv1 freezes and than crashes. If i turn off the router quick enough the software will come back, without crashing. If i close Smaart, so Tract shows no connection, i can disconnect the smaart pc from the network without any problems. If i connect the smaart pc to the host pc directly, without the router in between, everything works well. During the check there were no other devices connected to the router. Anyone noticed this too?
Thanks for the report. That’s interesting. I’ve never come across this but have not connected/disconnected things the way you described. Perhaps someone else??? My first guess would be that it’s a network problem, not a software problem. Do you use static IP addresses?
@joevegna i used DHCP Mode and ive already done a request to Waves support and they said that this is the only approved way to do it.
Hello, First of all great job! I have 2 small questions, what is the approximate weight you get on the empty structure? Where do you find the strip of materials that you add on the cutting sides after cutting? Musically Romain
Hi! The steel box is 4kg empty. The edge strip can be found on Amazon or any car parts store. Search "U Shape Seal Edge Strip"
@ Thanks you for tips !
No sidechain?
Nope. A good feature request though.
This plugin is the most powerful release of 2024.
you cannot be serious
It works well for some stuff. A nice tool to have for sure.
@@TECHNICKER_Cz 100%
Also brings up your noise floor a LOT
Oh yeah! As with most compressors when you spank them.
@joevegna for sure playing with this tonight in a mix. You have to be very light handed with this. It kills and thins a mix easier than it help it. This is something that should be used very carefully. I like what it does , but hate how it does it 🤣 if that makes sense. I found the mix to very very articulate and punchy. But it loses a lot of its ass
You are 100% right. It’s easy to overcook things with this boiler.
I think Voxengo TEOTE does it better, which is also zero latency.
Oh, have not tried that one. Will check it out.
There is a Live-Version of IDX which is zero-latency.
Vegna is always a blessing 😊
You are way too kind 😍
Is it basically their version of soothe2?
An analogue of Soothe2 would be rather Waves Curves Equator i think
Yes I think Curves EQ is more similar to Soothe. This is compression rather than eq.
So it’s just an EQ into a compressor then?
pretty great for a FREE plugin right?
I would describe it more like a mega-multi-band-compressor.
Thanx again, Joe!! 👍🏻
Any time! 😀
Thanks for the comparison, nice Video! Im about to purchase an Ionic 24. The only thing im a little concerned about is that i heard more often about cheap Ethernet cables, not only in Hosts and servers, but also in dspro's. What do you think about this with the Ionic stageboxes?
I have the Ionic16 and have toured with it since day one. Not a single hiccup or error. Rock solid. So I bought the Ionic 24 as well. So as far as I can tell everything is top notch.
@@joevegna Cool, that sounds good, thank you very much! Would be nice if the launch a 1ru version for foh.
Most times I preferred the bypassed signal tbh
And that’s why we have the mix knob 😎
Hi Joe, question on your pink noise panned all the way. I remember the TRACT tutorial with Val, he mentions:”now you can capture several spots around FOH“ But that wouldn’t work if pink noise is panned hard left or right. I know you measure either left or right side of PA with just SMAART.
Pink only send left or right will work with TF measurements, right? And sent to both L/R will help with EQ correction curve? Please, correct me if I’m wrong!!
Smarter people than me are welcome to weigh in on this. But the way I do it right now is that i only play pink in L or R. I take 3-8 measurement points, front to back, and then do an average. So far I have gotten quite good results doing it this way. But I'm sure the metode could be further developed. It's my 2025 project :)
@@joevegna your first sentence is actually the reason why I was watching your video again and came to my question. All the help and suggestions are welcome!
I need to find someone who has more experience with this and do a proper video including everything you need to know.
Delay Finder in Smaart was wrong about 5ms. I always set the initial delay manually, later Phase alligment works better. Regards Karol
no, Joe is using demo version of smaart that is limited with maximum 50ms of delay compesation.
@19deadmeat87 You're right, thank you for your message. Best regards
Joe, great videos! Thanks. Would you use F6 sidechain the same way on crowd mics to reduce them in a livestream when the band is loud or something else?
Absolutely. I use the F6 all the time for all kinds of trickery. And if you need to sidechain the low end from one source and the high end from another just add another instance and select the sc source. The F6 is simply brilliant!!
Allo :-) how much latency with waves V3 interface
The latency depends on your buffer size. Which depends on how many plugins you need to run. Lowest latency I have had is about 2ms.
Is there any A/B comparison with Klang?
Not from my end since I don't have Klang.
Thanks for this comparison. How are the headphone outs on the Ionics?
The headphone outputs are a big step up from the Tactus. We use these for wired IEM and it's great.
What’s your take on the Behringer Wing, their pre amps, plug-in emulations, stability, reliability and sound quality overall?
I haven't tried it so I can't say too much about it. I guess it's a nice box for the money. Nice with a surface with a lot of knobs and faders and stuff. I kinda miss some of that on the FIT/Classic.
How much of an affect do you think UA-cam's compression algorithms might have on the "immersiveness" of this demo? If you play back the YT video, does it sound similar to how it does coming straight out of your LV1 interface?
I just had a listen and yes, UA-cam take away a bit of the effect. As always. But the overall feeling is there, just not the finer detail.
Immersive mixing is pointless
Ok.
What do you think about the LV 1 Classic console? Is it worth buying right now?
I'm really impressed with the Classic console. If I were to buy a console in that range today I don't really see any competitors. It's a steal at $8k.
Thanks for the video. I didn't realize this required an additional license from Waves, but admittedly, I didn't look into it in detail. I appreciate your videos because you are upfront about the costs and alternatives
Thanks, appreciate it.
multi tracks available ? (:
Not at this point. But we are working on a solution to be able to offer multitracks for this act in the future.
@@joevegna fantastico will be great to follow along and practice!
How are stereo channels and busses processed with the eMo IEM, since there is only one dot on the circle without any width etc.?
I’m ducking this question since it’s above my pay grade. The guitar in the video is in stereo. So you can hear how it behaves. Someone else might have better knowledge on what’s actually going on.
Great Demo
Thanks for watching 😎
@@joevegnaMy pleasure
How much DSP does this use?
Good question. Haven’t had a look but an educated guess is: Not much.
That’s great!
WUOOOOOOOOOOOW! Thats sounds amazing. I need to play this as whole. Is somewere the whole track? Or do you have some multitracs to share? I want to try your tracks on my LV1 rig if i can get simililar results at least! Wow again!
I can’t share the multitracks but we are working on a solution for this. Meanwhile you can check out the studio versions here: ua-cam.com/video/P81jxzlquaY/v-deo.htmlsi=Vd7p2dfLq8A6zo3i
I can say for sure thate the "In front of me" like the icon shows (like for Snare) is NOT in front of me. Is inside me (in the middle of my head) just like regular Stereo image. So Yes it sounds different from Stereo, but it does not sounds like KLANG even if the KLANG depth is on default...
And have to say if i hearing it again and again. I stick with Stereo which is sagnificat more "present and clean" in my ears. I know that imerssive means ""shifting the phase and eq" but this is something what i dont like in my ears. I think the correct wayt to do that is compare same mixes ALL channels on "mono/center" position and compare how just enabling the new IEM mode change the sound. In fact i think there is no reason to "change" how it sounds if you are on same "panning" in both modes
It’s one thing to sit at home and listen, but the interesting thing is how musicians like it in a live situation. Is the added separation worth it? We’ll just have to try it live I guess.
Not a huge difference between ST and IEM - doing this comparison on Klang is a massive difference. Klang definitely sounds WAY better but this is WAY more cheap and convenient, and honestly, good enough
It’s absolutely possible to get a better mix than what I show in the video. But I agree, Klang is another level. With another price tag.
thanks for the video! Also a nice recording there you are playing with. Is it anywhere released?
It’s a recording from the last tour with Stonemountain Orchestra. A cover of Tattoo with Loreen. You can check out the studio version here: ua-cam.com/video/P81jxzlquaY/v-deo.htmlsi=j0igcGqSAEU81gKw
SO, in Klang the image of height is given by subtracting the highs when the level is lower than ear height, then when the instrument is placed higher than the level o f ear, then they just push some of the other side of what the other ear hears, something similar with using pan above the head. Don't know If I explained very clear this, but the height could be acheaved by tweaking the EQ for lower height and PAN for upper height. Msybe you can implement this in future updates
Yes it should be possible to implement. To me the ”distance” parameter is higher on the wishlist though. Ideally both. We’ll just have to wait and see what Waves come up with.
