It would have been sensible for ALL stakeholders to be involved in developing the design brief. Then see what was available and negotiate the required mods and final details with the manufacturer. Might then have had a result which in the main suited most people, on time and within budget.
If i made the sleeper cars, i'll make em look pretty cool, being heavily inspired by the Spirit of Queensland's Sleeper car, but with extra bells & Whistles, like Amenties being in a Compartment, and the car having various comforts like Sleeping Masks for your eyes if people have trouble sleeping, a Shower & Toilet Combo room, the Car having its Screen dim when its night & a lowered sound, and also AC Built in, as well as have the decal on the front have The most unique design, with the words "Sleeper Chairoom"
Who ever thought non reversible seats was a good idea is obviously not a regular traveller. It is a crap idea in the extreme. Thanks for the video…very informative.
Eh. The rest of the world does it.
I see a few of these sitting at Gosford everyday probably the same ones with the Depot not far away. These will be the oldest new trains in history, most of them must be 5 years old and yet to run a revenue service. I wonder how that goes with Warranty... Just another NSW Government stuff up.
most are younger than that, there are still some being delivered now.
probably get a look at them on the transport expo this weekend
highly highly doubt it, only 2 cars have anything inside yet.
Whow it can’t run by itself it needs a diesel motor. Now there is a step forward must be a Labor train.
yeah of course it does. the thing has never moved on the mainline at all before, you think theyd let it run alone??
I really do not understand the concerns about the lack of sleeper carriages. I'm guessing everyone who is complaining has never been on a plane before because it really isn't any different. Or maybe everyone here normally just flies in first class? I've sat for 17 hours straight on a plane before and IMO, sitting while sleeping isn't hard. Otherwise, nice video of a New Regional Fleet set! I wish I could see one one day during the daytime!
It’s because it’s a massive downgrade from the current service. It’s like if Qantas removed first and business class from flights to Europe. For some people it isn’t different but some people expect a certain level of service, especially given sleeper trains are making a comeback everywhere else in the world. I’ve done more than my fair share of long haul flying in economy, given the opportunity to sleep in a bed for the same price as an economy class ticket id take the train every time.
@@thetrainguy4 I guess that makes sense and I can't really argue with that. I guess I just think that sleeper carriages are unnecessary as I haven't tried them before and they feel a bit space inefficient.
The XPT layout is inefficient but if we started from scratch you could make a reasonably high density layout, with perhaps as many as three bunks stacked. Also you could have an entire 10+ car train of sleepers, not just one tacked on to the sitting service.
You’ll be seeing a lot more of being towed around NSW behind locomotives for many many months to come.
I like the Orchard Hills design. But as a future worker at WSI would be nice if they had parking for Metro use. Otherwise I'll just drive to the terminal.
They do
What a complete joke that there are no Sleeper Carriages on these trains. They are mandatory on long haul trains. I would like to wait hear their excuse for not having them. And hopefully there is a major difference between Economy & 1st Class. Unlike the current XPTs. Not a fan on the design on paint.
Second and first are pretty different. Much bigger seats in first in a 2+1 configuration versus slightly smaller (but still larger I reckon than XPTs) second class in 2+2. Agree about sleepers though.
@@rhettcorbett3346 I agree the orange better not be the colour, it belongs in the 80s. Burgundy or medium blue would be nice. Can't have red as it fades quicker tho also nice.
According to sources close to the early stages you can thank certain lobbying groups for the no sleepers. Many look forward to the day a journalist decides to investigate the design and procurement of the fleet ;) So many questions will be answered
Ok. Will they have one open for viewing for the public ? Would like to see in person.
Without the sleepers, I'm concerned that they might not be a big hit, keen to see how they are received!
A lovely little video i like the new set.
Made in Hong Kong??
In spain
Thanks @@thetrainguy4
Think of the long suffering commuters on the Southern Highlands line. The existing explorer trainsets are plagued with breakdowns. Can’t wait for these roll out.
The N set replacements haven't even started construction yet. Years away.
Beautifully designed!! Manufactured indigenous or imported?
In Spain
I can't see these trains entering revenue services anytime soon
Can't wait for these!
They look ugly…
They don't look ugly🤯🤯🤯🤯
By the time they finally make it into service they will be due for replacement.
They look fancy
Let's hope this NRF R Set Fleet doesn't suffer being 3+ years late like the New Intercity D Sets.
Its already 3.5 years late
@@thetrainguy4 yes I know that, but what I mean is that let's hope the NRF enters service less than five years after the first set arrives into Sydney from Dubbo.
Love to see what 1st class is like, presuming the seats are bi directional
seats rotate, the first class mockups (and even second class) look pretty comfortable. ua-cam.com/video/UdLqYWeN-LY/v-deo.html not super keen about sitting on top of a diesel engine for 14 hours though.
shiny
Sleepers a few elections away ?
Let’s see if the unions screw these trains over
Merci beaucoup pour cette superbe vidéo 😊
delayed for 2458396748056780547 years
It will be nice to have a variety of trains on the southern highlands line, can’t wait till they enter service!
Caf Cheap as fuck shitty quality Spanish trains
Merci beaucoup pour le partage 😊
lets hope the duel traction system switch over is fail safe, in other words a proven design that has been in use in Europe for at least three years, in the past the so called proven design from Europe on trains has been anything but a disaster, one example was the plug door design fitted to the Tangara fleet.
It’s the first bi mode train CAF has ever built. The 6 car set has only one pantograph… Problems are on the horizon.
@@thetrainguy4 only time will tell if they have designed a success or a disaster, if its a major design problem it will become a legal issue with the taxpayer footing the bill.
@@thetrainguy4 Well it is CAF after all. Lets hope for the best but prepare not to be shocked when things go south. Waiting for the eventual blame game from the opposition seeking to blame the current government for the problems.
I like the New Regional Fleet but it will never be the same as the XPT.
Totally agreed
hopefully they wont show problems in the future when they start running passenger services
Nice
Very inglorious compared with XPT debut in 1981
This isn't the 'debut'. It's just being transferred to a maintenance centre. I'm sure there will be much more fanfare later on
@@SYDTrainsFilms were you around in 1981? I was
Unfortunately the new fleet doesn't have sleeper cars so don't think anyone will be doing any overnight trips anytime soon
its so silly. a didcated sleeper service is so convienent and cheaper than flying.
The dumbest decision ever made, not having a sleeper car on this train.
@@electro_sykes it will in the future
The routes the XPT currently operate only make sense as sleeper services. A 10hr day service is pointless.
I’m hearing rumours that a few XPTs will be refurbed and kept in as sleepers to operate at night until a new dedicated sleeper fleet is purchased. Just rumours at this point.
So this is the LR long range for Sydney to Melbourne and other long runs?
Hi great video and thank for going to Westmead to film this! Does anybody know the expected date of service like In 2026 or 2027? And is there a way to track the train?
Track the train on Anytrip.
Awesome! How did you know where to be to film this?
Anytrip app
Unions have prevented this train from making the Journey from storage at Lithgow under its own Power
The NRF cannot run under its own power yet. It requires numerous certifications before the regulatory agency will allow this to occur. This is freaking basic policy. It has nothing to do with the unions. Once initial certifications are complete the sets will be allowed to travel under their own power, just like the NIF sets. When not under test they will be hauled by loco.
Wrong train. This one doesn’t have approval to run under power yet. The D sets did have a union ban and they do keep some in Lithgow but that ban has since been lifted.
None of those doors look like they can accommodate a wheelchair
I wouldn’t bet your house on that
One new fleet after another. Let’s see which one makes it into service first
Considering Haylen's silence on the D sets lol The Nov 30 deadline is fast approaching, lets see if they move the goalposts again ;)
If they break down in electric mode within the electrified territory the only option for them is drive to Central Station on diesel power at the cost of lengthy trip time
No? If they break down in electric mode they can just use diesel mode for the rest of the trip however long that may be. And the trip time is already lengthy. There’s so so many reasons to hate it but this really isn’t one
I suspect they have higher speed and power in diesel mode. These units only have one pantograph and if they draw enough current to power a normal 6 car train it’d explode. A 6D has 3 pantographs, metro sets have 2.
@@thetrainguy4Do individual pantographs have kilowatt load limits at all, or below what a train uses? I ask because the limit isn’t the overhead wire or the (total) engine strength.
Mate! Ten points for dedication.
i didnt know they were due to arrive yet.... looks pretty good
Just 1 train? This is not even a "test" train yet. What is it even running on ? Coal being shovelled into a furnace at the front of the train? Sounds very "rough" Is it even branded as a NSW trainlink / Sydney trains ?
@@dulcinealee3933 dude that's the Diesel pulling it the train isn't on at all
@@WilliamHodgeAustralia I was trying to be funny. It didn't work . I did knew it was being hauled and not running on the tracks on it's own, it would be probably illegal to have rogue trains when not fully tested or running unsupervised on passenger train tracks
I personally think they dont look too bad, I bet they look even nicer with the panto up. Keen to see them in action, is it heading to the XPT maintenance centre or where then?
Auburn Heavy MC
You're in the wrong state. If you're looking for a regional train with pantographs, go to Queensland.
@@jimdonovan9961 These do have pantographs...
