BYD Seal at Tesla Supercharger
Just a quick test to plug the BYD Seal to Tesla Supercharger for the first time to see what happens. Does it work or not? In some countries people are reporting issues with Superchargers and apparently in Australia it has been identified that certain software and hardware fixes are needed to fix the compatibility, but in some other markets everything seems to work normally. I've applied only one OTA update which included "DC charging optimization", which may or may not be related to the charging at Tesla Superchargers.
This is the OTA update I've done to the car:

BYD Seal Consumption Test with iTAC on vs off
Not your fault, but the side of Seal's charging port required you to occupy two available charging poles. I hope there is a better solution for none-Tesla users to enjoy the network without this kind of frustration.
That’s true, but hopefully will be fixed over long run, as I believe Tesla’s V4 stations already have longer cables? This is a service design glitch by Tesla, which is of course understandable as they first were building the charging network for their cars only, and then afterwards decided to open it for all cars. Now with the new stations they can take this into account and use longer cables.
You sound exactly like Valtteri Bottas
Maybe we are the same person.. 😁
Chinese EV? You must have death wish
I live in a backwards part of the world where we can't get such cars, namely North America. We're envious.
Hehe, I’m sure the pace of innovation will pick up there as well someday…patience my friend 😅
ah you are lucky like the all new costumers of March 2024 anyone before that like mine that i have since mid December 2023 no luck hopefully the fix that you also mentioned does fix it i guess we wait till then hi from Melbourne your wheels are different from the ones you had before or its a different car
Thanks for the comment! Yep I guess we are lucky in Europe as the most cars here are delivered after March this year. I think mine was one of the first deliveries here in Finland in mid-March. I had winter tyres on different wheels before - but I prefer the look of these summer wheels..
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wu Mid March delivery would mean it was made earlier, so it may have had the same problem as Australian cars. Would be interesting to know if the software update you applied has actually fixed the issue or if the European delivered cars were ok to start with. I don't think anyone in Australia has had your software update yet.
Did you check if the Tesla supercharger worked BEFORE your latest software update?
Unfortunately not, didn’t have the chance to try it before the update.
Hello from Barcelona! Awesome video! I was looking for a "suitcase test" but I found no review that tested this on the Seal so far. I also looked for the dimensions of the trunk but found just an image. This helps a lot! ❤
Thanks for the comment, great to hear that! 👍
Many thanks for this video, my Seal was confirmed to be delivered in September. I was missing a video like this, because we are having a growing family, and we like to travel abroad couple of times a year.
Thanks! Good to hear you found it useful 👍
loved it thanks for that and hello from Melboune Australia and my BYD Seal
Glad you enjoyed it!
For me I would also need to put a spare tyre in the trunk. Have had a BMW with non RFT tires for some times, and had to put a spare tyre. And only after I changed the tires to RFT I removed the spare tire. Now that Seal has no spare tyre I would also put a spare tyre in the trunk even if there is tyre repair kit, since you cannot repair if the tyre broke on the side wall. But putting a spare tyre in the trunk will consume much space leaving maybe only 1-2 medium size bags we can carry. Btw, great video for someone like us who is a family man but also would like to have a supercar. Cheers 😄👍
Thanks! Yes, the spare tyres are nowadays quite rare to have included in new cars. None of the last three EVs I've had, has had a spare tyre.
How did you hold the tablets in that place?
I used tablet holder with a velcro strap. It is quite sturdy.
I was waiting for him to say "Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing". Sounds just like Kimmi.
How did you make it?
It's not connected in any way, I just put a couple of Android tablets onto the headrests - that's all :) Just same content on all screens but manually set.
Where can i buy this thing?
It's just a couple of Android tablets, nothing more fancy :)
Definitely The Voice Command. A song with lyric about ejecting the mother-in-law out of my car has my vote every day of the week. I enjoy all the tracks, but that one brings a smile 😂
Hehe, great to hear! 😅 👍
Autonomous driving of BYD is in its infancy just like the automobile giant GEELY as they belong to the 3 tier of the Chinese standards. Xiaopeng and Tesla belong to the second tier. Huawei is leading way ahead and belongs to the first tier. The Avatr 12 and IM LS7 are using Huawei's autonomous driving system.
Interesting insight, thanks for sharing.
dashboard led died?
i dont like when it disabled itself if we didnt touch it for a long time.. what if im asleep😢 there should be some safety assist if we slept (like slowly parked on left lane, with hazard lights)
Yes, I agree, not the best implementation from that point of view.
is there a speed limit? like slowest to enable and fastest speed while using it? if u press throttle .. will it disabled ?
Today I activated it at 120 km/h and no issues. Not sure of minimum (I think it might be 30), need to check that one. If you use the accelerator, it will stay on and the speed will pick up, but will return to the previously set speed after you have released the accelerator. It's pretty handy how it works there.
This is not LKA (Lane Keeping Assist) = ping pong. This is LFA (Lane Follow Assist) or lane centering system. Thank you for this video 👍
Thanks for the clarification, LFA sounds like a more accurate term.
Warum nimmst du nicht den Transportschutz beim Rückspiegel ab - sieht ohne viel besser aus
Oh, indeed! Thanks for the tip 😅 Will remove that one
which software version do you have?
I’m still on 2310.
Thank you for the video. In Morocco we have version 1.0 of infotainement system lane keeping assist disconnects when the road is too curved.
Thanks for the comment. So based on this video, is the behavior of the LKA worse in Morocco or does it handle these kind of slight curves like on the video?
It seems it handles the same. Really handful in the highway under 130 kmh, but really annoying in tighter roads with a lot of curves. The HUD is a must to have to use this ADAS as we can monitor easily exactly when it disconnects, much more dangerous to use in versions without HUD.
@@Panardo777 Let’s hope that BYD improves those things through software updates. I think that could well be one of their focus areas.
Is there button also for only using adaptive cc, without active steering (autopilot)? Does Seal have basic cc or is it always adaptive for ex. in winter if sensors are blocked, can you use basic cc?
Yes there is a button for just the cruise control without activating the lane keeping assist. It's also there on the left side of the steering wheel. As for the manual cruise control, I at least haven't found one yet..
I find the auto steer only works on straight roads. Even a slight curve will send it off the road.
Interesting, does that happen for you also on the highway?
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wuYes, slight curves on the highway seems to throw it out.
@@vasil7410 hmm, maybe good to have it checked out? Perhaps something off with calibration of the system.
What mode were you using, I think Eco mode ya? Is intelligent cruise control the byd’s term for adaptive cruise control? Btw nice sharing, one more subscriber here 😁
The Seal has ACC (adaptive cruise control) and ICC (intelligent cruise control). The latter will control the speed and automatically steer the car.
Thanks for clarifying that. So ICC + LKA (lane-keeping assist) = ICC, right?
I used the sports mode with Intelligent cruise control. The drive mode (sports/normal/eco) shouldn't make any difference here.
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wu LKA is a driver assistance feature that is supposed to nudge you back into the centre of the lane. ICC is what you were using in this video, it is what BYD call autopilot. The button to the left of the rocker wheel will engage ICC and the button to the right of the rocker wheel engages just ACC.
Is there a way to change the “Hi BYD” to…. “Name of my choice” ? Thank you
I am afraid not. This would be a great customization option, but I guess the effective hot word detection requires quite a bit of effort from the software, so not so straightforward to change it.
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wuok. Thanks for taking the time to reply 🙏
When you take it easy in eco I can get 15.7kwh/100km on a 50 km run at around 17 deg temp
Sure, that's well doable. But the question is: if you turn iTAC off, can you do the same route in same conditions and at same speed in e.g. 14 kWh/100 km? Some people have claimed 17% reduction in consumption with Eco mode and iTAC off, but I'm not yet been able to verify that.
Mitä tarvikkeita Sealin mukana muuten tulee? Tuleeko jotain laturia/kaapelia + muuta? 🤔
Viiden metrin type2-kaapeli ja matkalaturi, joka tosin ei ole ihan parhaasta päästä (oisko 10A). Myös V2L-adapteri, mikä aika kätevä, mutta kantsii varmistaa myyjältä tuleeko se. Aurinkosuojat lasilatolle, renkaanpaikkaussarja, kompura…
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wuOkei 👍
Good news and bad news: the voice control of BYD is relatively worse among Chinese EV makers. For example, Xpeng has far better voice control than this, you don't even need to say the activate prompt and the car will detect the meaningful command automatically.
That’s interesting. Of course something like that can be perceived both as a benefit or a drawback…e.g. myself, I like the voice assistant feature, but also like to be clearly in control to activate it or not. So too proactive or automatic approach is not necessarily better, in my opinion. But surely this is an area that almost all manufacturers are looking into or considering. E.g. Alfa Romeo just releaded their first EV and quite visibly promote the ChatGPT-enabled voice assistant.
It’s to see the entire steering wheel to have confidence in the video pls . You could be holding it from the bottom too .
Yep, I should actually do another video on the ICC+LKA that better shows these things.
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wu yeah...i think you'll def get a lot of views...cant find any videos doing a proper test of their adas
nice
Bro for gods shake , when we install a part we always clean thoroughly the surfaces. Also you could drill a hole to the fromt wheel fender and install another screw. The metal clips are used to the upper part of the mud flap where it connects to the chassis for a tight fit. take care drive safe
Good points! I was in a bit of a hurry when shooting the video, will take another look on those metal clips.
request LED interior please
How does they work?
Hoping that the front mud flaps especially would reduce the splashes and dirt accumulating on the sides (lower part of the doors) when driving in wet / slush / etc conditions. Not much experience yet, though.
Will the mud flaps reduce the range and how far? Please check on your next post thanks.
Very good question. They sure have some small impact on range, but I think it should be rather marginal. A proper test would be needed to validate it (same route, same conditions, with/without mud flaps) to get exact figures.
Same question. That's why I don't install them in my byd yuan 😮. Afraid of losing range
They've reduced the already low ground clearance further
That's a valid point. Though I don't think the clearance is too low, I've measured 15.5 cm from ground to the battery pack (or the base plate).
Do you know how to display a map on the cluster? ua-cam.com/video/tJjyliTY5yE/v-deo.htmlsi=HIAjlJSpkX9pPd5L
This is unfortunately in China only. BYD should start rolling bigger software updates, including the UX improvements to the driver's cluster and HUD, to Western markets as well to get it closer in feature richness to the one we see in China.
Valtteri Bottas!, is that you?
Damn, now I'm exposed...😄
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wu Okei 🤔 Onko tiedossa tuleeko langaton apple carplay jossain päivityksessä? Joku kaveri jostain briteistä kommentoi yhdellä facebook foorumilla että hänellä olisi jo 😯
Ei ole tietoa tuosta. Jos olisi tullut, niin varmaan olisi jo laajemmin infoa saatavilla..
And thank you for your tutorial. Surely will help me with my new ATTO 3.
Hi there, I like your opening song. May I know the title 😂😂😂

Thanks for asking, but unfortunately I'm not familiar with that game. I have done one rough 3d model out of the Seal though..
Nice wallpapers, love it! How did you adjust the transparency from the app knobs?
Thanks! Some themes use semitransparent circles for those three main menu items, so try switching between different themes and wallpapers to get that same effect.
Thanks for your response. I don’t have the Seal yet. Hopefully it arrives July so I have to wait patiently 😊
@@ricomono6820 it's definitely worth waiting for, always such a pleasure to drive
Most car reviewers complain about lack of physical buttons. Almost none of them have a clue of modern voice assistants. I for one prefer use voice assistants, with a button on the steering wheel, over reaching to buttons.
Very good point. Focus is currently all on touch vs. physical buttons discussion. I suspect that voice assistants will make a big leap forward when they integrate more versatile conversational AI into them, probably happening within a year already. But already now BYD Assistant is a pretty nice feature and with plenty of untapped potential.
Nice
My god you must have big plans for your channel if you got a theme song commissioned.😂
Indeed 😅 So far the Electric Seal sound track consists of 5 songs: "Born To Thrill", "Electrify the World", "Voice Command", "Ignite the Future" and the latest one; "Electric Dreams" which is featured in the Wallpapers video. Soon we'll have a full album!
@@ElectricSeal-bq5wu fantastic can’t wait for your debut at Eurovision.👍

You put chat GP in these cars and we will be having conversations on the way to places. Cars will communicate with each other maybe a BYD twenty miles ahead telling your car there has been a accident, heavy rain, traffic jam, debris on the road. It still looks very basic but the fact it understands what your saying is impressive. But let’s never forget by the time you have said the command you’d have done it with a knob or button within seconds.
The idea of generative AI -enabled voice assistant is a fascinating one, and probably will soon be reality. Current BYD Assistant is still relatively simple compared to the conversational capabilities of ChatGPT or similar services. Just out of curiosity, what kind of discussions would you (everyone) have with a ChatGPT type of voice assistant in the car? What would you ask from it, how would you use it?
Next time, please try these, "Hi BYD....open the airbag","Hi BYD....open seat ejection","Hi BYD....open the battery self destruct program" 😜
Tried the seat ejection already 😁 For the battery one, I susoect it would just calmly state that ”sorry - this is Blade LFP”
