    Lots of Halibut in that area. Great footage.
    Hope you brought some slabs back to the dock.
    I went crabbing yesterday. Did well for this time of the year. Surf and turf it’s what’s for dinner..

    Great video! It’s so interesting to see how many creatures are down there. We are heading up to Petersburg next week. It might be fun to add a hook directly to the swivel to get those rockfish, or a smaller stinger hook behind the main jig.

    • @CaptainZac

      Thanks @wbstone4388! Yes the rockfish keep striking the swivel so perhaps I'll add a stinger hook next time. How was your trip to Petersburg? I'll be heading there mid-July for a week of fishing. Tight lines! Captain Zac

      @@CaptainZac Thanks. Petersburg was fun, going back in a few weeks. Spent a lot of time on cabin construction but caught tons of Tanner & Dunge crabs, also many female King crabs we released, hundreds of Spot Prawn and other shrimp, and some 20 lb halibut on the great 1 ouncer lures you sell.

    Struck me how many rockfish made strikes at the shiny swivels, rather than the jig below. Gotta wonder if they were striking due to movement, or perhaps mistook the shiny swivels for bait fish.

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  5 місяців тому

      Hey Thomas yes great observation I noticed that as well! I agree that silver shiny swivel probably looked like a small baitfish and those little rockfish were on the attack! Thanks and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

    Hey Zac what do you think the fishing is going to be like at the end of June this year? Thank and I hope you stay safe on the water! Be up there in a month!

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey Steven thanks for the positive comment! The fishing should be getting good by then - the halibut fishing should be heating up and the the feeder king season opens on June 15th so you'll be able to target those as well. If you happen to be fishing right near Juneau you could fish for the terminal/hatchery kings as well (in specific areas) which have a more generous limit. If you are fishing out at Excursion Inlet or Elfin Cove you may even have a few cohos showing up then (supposed to be a great coho year!). Best of luck on your upcoming trip - tight lines my friend! That is so cool. Love the vids Cap Zac.
    As I mentioned before going up on a cruise to Alaska June 6... first stop around 6/10 Icy Straight point...then Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan.
    From what I am reading, Salmon is all catch abd release (although last year I released all of mine in Ketchikan).
    But I am also reading there-- there might not be any salmon going up rivers. Will the rivers be empty of salmon in first couple of weeks in June?
    Other fish that can be caught from shore? Flounder? Rockfish? Im going with my son this time, so hoping to put him on some fish...
    Thanks for any words of wisdom😊

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey @knighttenkoa-gamersouthern5236 thanks for the positive comment! Correct the "feeder king" opener in this area is June 15th but you could fish for hatchery kings in the "terminal areas" in Juneau which open up on June 1st. Check out more details here: www.adfg.alaska.gov/sf/FishingReports/index.cfm?ADFG=R1.ReportDetail&area_key=4 You could go up to Lena Cove and cast spinners or spoons from the shore. You are correct there will not be kings in the rivers/streams but you could target dolly varden in the streams or at stream mouths in the salt water. Rockfish are hard to come by from shore and you could catch flounder / sole / small cod from the Auke Bay harbor breakwater (king salmon could be swimming near here as well). Best of luck with the fishing and enjoy the cruise! Tight lines! Captain Zac

    I’m a little confused. I’m from So.Fl. So I don’t usually see those species. We have types of flounder here in area but not Halibut. Genuine question??? I couldn’t tell if that shiny spot above Jig was a planer or some type of swivel ?As many fish as I saw in the video & as many fish as a saw near the Jig, but a lot seem to not even notice it, then I saw others that attempted to pick up the Jig but the didn’t hold as if jig was to big??? Or is the eye sight of those fish that bad?? I’m asking out of curiosity as a Fl Fisherman. I saw many fish attempt that lure & many as if they didn’t even see it. So is it the eyesight of that species or was his Jig Large for only larger Halibut? I saw several that were smaller than the 1 that he hooked attempt but didn’t set??? Just saking?

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  4 місяці тому

      Hi @justinburgess9384 - we have both halibut and flounder here in Alaska. The flounder here aren't the same kind as the ones you have in FL - the FL flounder are really good to eat. The flounder here are often thrown back in hopes of catching a halibut next. Yes these smaller fish were striking the swivel (probably looked like a tiny baitfish). On the small halibut strikes on the jig I was slow to yank because of the limited feel I get with this camera rig (the cost of getting this kind of footage!). A larger halibut would quickly engulf this jig. Tight lines! Captain Zac

    Was there no hook on that jig?

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes there was a hook on the jig however the feel on my underwater camera rig is very bad hence the multiple missed strikes. It would have been a very different outcome if I had that jig tight to my main line! Tight lines! Captain Zac
