Hello Warriors of Light! This video will debut my new Final Fantasy 14 1.0 project called 'Hydaelyn,' I chose Hydaelyn as the title
because it's what the original world was called before Endwalker established it being Etheirys. In this video I will be taking different shots

    this is awesome. hope you keep it up. you mention at one point wishing you could get the 1.0 models intact. how did you get the map and object assets you've gotten so far? im trying to build a replication of FFXI's combat system in UE5 right now; to get the assets i had to use a combination of two model viewers; Altana viewer that lets me find specific file names of the models/animations i want (but it doesnt let you find everything sadly); and a model viewer called Noesis that lets you export those files in a file type that Unreal can use. So far ive imported San DOria and got it to work; a hume model with a spear and got his proper walk/run animations to work (even a Jump even tho you cant jump in ffxi normally); ive got an elvaan NPC to idle properly; and got a skeleton to roam around using its proper idle/walk/run animations. I understand 1.0 has nothing like Altana viewer sadly, and to utilize Noesis you'd need to know what the files are (if you have them); was just curious if you've got all the original ffxiv 1.0 files. (Actually Noesis can view certain files like models; but not everything come to think of it....maybe it could still be useful, unless youre already using it)

      That's awesome! I watched some of your videos! San'Doria was my starting city (although I haven't played 11 through all the way yet), I was thinking about doing some 11 related stuff like that sometime in the future. The way I got 1.0's map assets are from a software called XivObjExporter which was made by one of the Project Meteor Devs (of the 1.0 server software). It does a really good job minus Limsa Lominsa, a few of the La Noscea dungeons have objs misplaced (or downright broken) and Mor Dhona flat out doesn't want to open. The major issue I've run into this is that every map tile that's the same is grouped together and what's even worse about that is I found out say like a cliff or a boulder will have 3-4 meshes within it that's meshed together into one object which making texture blend look great near impossible. Now NinjaRipper does solve this (which is a software that you run and game into and extracts any model inside camera view) however with the way 1.0's LOD system works I would have to go to each map tile to properly rip it.. which is another daunting task lol. As far as the npcs go while I can use NinjaRipper to grab the original models from 1.0 they'd be missing their skeletons, have zero animations attached to them and their textures are fucked. However the npcs in this video I got from using Textools which I can custom create a FF14 char with their skeletons intact, however their animations themselves would have to be redone(which is what I had to do with this).

      @@slerplederp6655 the multiple meshes mashed into one sounds like a few horrifying files I've opened in Noesis from XI lmao. And you should definitely pay XI! It's so good! I watched a few more of your videos and followed some links and found that if I have the original 1.0 client I'd be able to patch it to 1.23b? I've been scrambling to find my original install disc but haven't located it yet. Would be cool to play it but mostly want to try and get some of those ability icons from my own project. No one else seems to have them T-T (also in the video where you find the command code to level yourself up, it mentions you can see the source code?! I'd like to take a look to see how they did the targeting/combat mode system....)

      @@redcloud16 Correct, I do have a tutorial on how to set it up as my main channel video (it's a bit outdated but it should work), but yeah SeventhUmbral has the patch files to patch the game up to 1.23b. The great thing about 1.0 is that you can easily get all the games icons with FFXIVtool: ffxivclassic.fragmenterworks.com/wiki/index.php/Utilities you can even extract all the music and maps. I was able to get all the music and icons in Unreal 5 for this project. As far as the commands go they are debug commands which when you setup 1.0 will be in a scripts folder, and the source code is really Project Meteor's reverse engineering code on the game, but you should be able to find targeting and combat mode through their code on their develop build (combat only works on that build). (:

    I heard there's about an hour of cutscenes following Future's Perfect in 1.23b, is there anyway to access those cutscenes through Project Meteor?

      It could be all the unused cutscenes I uploaded. If it specifically takes place after Futures Perfect I'm sure PM would've uploaded them by now, and it seems from the quest scripts the MSQ ends at the Titan Cutscene. However I can look into it and see if I can find anything! :D

    I followed this pretty thoroughly but the server for Seventh Umbral keeps timing out with a 13001 connection error. Is there anything I can do? I really wanna try and play 1.23b but I cant even reach the character creator

    I’ve still been wanting to fully restore this game to a fully playable state. I would love any resources you could point me towards, and not sure if there’s an updated repository with all the updates made so far. But it would be greatly appreciated. I’m not the biggest fan of the unreal engine project and wish work on the original game would have continued.

      It's possible, I saw someone do it just earlier tonight. Edit: I did it 10 min after writing this, and have since done it a few more times. It's doable, just difficult lol. You kinda have to hold left right after you jump. It's finnicky but possible.

    I give up i spent so much time getting this crap to work im throwing the towel. I spent 15 dollars to get a darn copy and while this fix correct one thing the lobby still crashes. The only way I can even salvage this is just scrap all the files and start ALLL the way to beginning again. Its not worth my time having to go through step 1 allllllll over again

    This isn't going to be a kind message. That being said, I think it's a message you should and need to read. I don't know if this kind of project is worth your time and effort. The animation that you have for your custom intro is choppy, and if that's the best that can be done, then it bodes ill for the rest of the project. Aside from that, the lighting and poses aren't very good and sometimes even wrong (Yda are you okay? 5:34). In my opinion, you've bit off more than you can chew. If I were you, I would scrap the whole thing and just work more on the fundamentals so that way when you are properly skilled, then you can return and really make something special. But right now what you have is essentially a slideshow with worst lighting than the original cutscenes. Love the idea, but unless you have a bigger team with more people that have a particular set of skills, I don't believe it will be worth any of the time and effort you put into it and in hindsight, would actually make the game look worse which is probably not how you or others want to remember Final Fantasy 14.

      Thank you and I appreciate for your critique! This helps me improve and give a better idea of what to work on in the future! There's was suppose to more to this video because it was also going to be a project on boundary breaking (or dissecting) the cutscenes as well. A lot of stuff was cut from the video because it was running on 30min and I was working on two other projects. As for the custom animations, the intros are meant for me to improve my animation skills and learn more about Unreal 5. You gotta start somewhere and on something your passionate about. I'm not going to stop working on something I just started. I do agree with you that I need to approach it differently. The reason why Yda had her arm through her body was because she was off camera when I ripped Papalymo tripping and I thought it was funny (course the context of it was cut). If Shapeless Memory looks the same with crappy lighting and such by the time I start recording it then I won't release upload it on youtube until I figure it out. This three week break I'm taking is one to reflect on how I want to approach this project and how I actually want to do this. However I do appreciate your critique.

      You're right for some reason when I started working on this the Shadows appeared how they are in the video. Very sharp and noisy, did some research for Ue5 and couldn't find a solution to it. :( In Shapeless Memory I will make sure it doesn't look like that because it annoyed me a lot lol.

      The only thing I saw recently is one of the main devs was working on a bunch of Lua stuff. I pop in their discord every now and then but mostly have distance myself from their project to start my own. I'm not cut out for programming lol :D

    I've gotten to the point of opening the three map, lobby and world servers but when running their exe files the command prompt crashes and the last line is "Testing DB connection..." before it crashes

    Very cool! Great to see the spirit of what made 1.0 great live on. Always wondered what the OG Ishgard would have looked like inside. I imagine it would have been a much more enclosed and somewhat maze like design as opposed to the much more open design 3.0 gave us.

      The coolest about Ishgard in 1.0 is that when you get very close to it, it looks like the low model was modeled to scale like the other three cities.

      I'm currently not but there are still those from Project Meteor and others who are still doing work on it. :D

    Glad to hear it'll be continued in some form. I no longer play the game, and have not for years now - however, as someone who started at original launch, it's nice to look back on something so reminiscent.

    that is looking nice! added trees and lakes. i do remember a few caves that you were able to get lost in and come out on a beach. running from the red crabs.

    i followed every steps of your video and the windows cmd fix but the game wont launch properly, it opens with a black screen and has the game cursor but closes instantly, would you happen to know the cause and how to fix it? edit: i was able to make it work but the task manager cpu thread didnt work, i had to manually disabled (in the bios) all of my e-cores and only enabled 6 p-cores (i havent tried 8 p-cores which would equates to 16 threads as mentioned in the video), it works perfectly now!

    Hello! I am currently trying to host XIV 1.0 from your guide in an Azure VM, I got everything up, but I can't seem to load into the server from my client pc, I've tested to make sure the server software works on my end, and it does when I host it locally, but doesn't work when I host it in my Azure VM. The login server works, but when I get into the game and press start it tries to connect but times out.

      update: Ive made it into the character creation screen, but stuck on the loading screen trying to get into the world server, not seeing much of anything from the world server exe

      @@c1bdc867 I don't know a whole lot about setting this up with an Azure VM. From what I found of the error code from PM discord is that in HeidiSQL, ffxiv_servers, data tab, there is your local ip address in which you would (first remember it) but change it to the LAN IP of the computer that will be running the servers. You will have to modify the 7U config file also to the LAN IP. See if that works if that makes any sense.

    11:45 This combat system is actually completely different from what they had when I actually played in 2010. Apparently the changed was made with the update to version 1.18. Before that, there was a stamina bar that the entire combat system was built around, there were no auto attacks, I actually really liked the system myself since it reminded me of the ATB system from from Final Fantasy 4-9.

      Funny story when I quit World of Warcraft and played 1.0 (briefly) I actually liked the slower paced combat (This was shortly after Yoshida took over though).

      @@slerplederp6655 I grew up playing EverQuest so the original game actually appealed to me quite a bit, it reminded me of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes a lot. It also failed for the same reason as Vanguard in that in needed about 6 more months of beta to finish polishing and optimizing the game play so that people weren't experiencing single digit frame rates and constant crash issues on launch.

    Sorry, I have another question I've been trying to get combat to work but I keep getting a LuaError. It's giving me "can't find script for actor" and "cannot convert clr type" errors. I've been playing around with your build off and on for the last few months but this is one thing I have not quite figured out. I've tried redownloading things, recopying things, but I can't get it to work. Do you know what I need to do here? I'm sure it's probably something obvious but I'm stumped. Thanks.

      Did you copy your scripts folder from the Data Folder to MapServer/Bin/Debug? A lot of the combat right now relies on debug commands like giving your char exp to use high level attacks, spawnnpc to spawn a monster in the server. If you're getting lua errors then it means you never copied your scripts folder over. ffxivclassic.fragmenterworks.com/wiki/index.php/Debug_Commands

      @@slerplederp6655 I copied it over and tried copying it over again because I was having issues. I know how to spawn enemies and give my character exp, I can do all of that just fine. It just wont let me attack anything, even if I give myself TP, it just tells me actors are missing or that there is a script error. All other scripts are working for me, just not the combat ones. Emotes and all of the other animations work, cut-scenes work. It just wont let me attack the enemies. If all else fails I might have to try again from the beginning with a fresh build. It's been very trial and error but I've been learning a lot about how a lot of this stuff works. Anyway thanks. I'll let you know if I ever get it working.

      If you're on the Hildabrand build combat doesn't work on it, that is only a quest build that I forked from Lizzardizzle who forked from Ioncannon's build. Combat only works on Ioncannon's develop repository. bitbucket.org/Ioncannon/project-meteor-server/src/develop/

      @@slerplederp6655 Ah, that explains it. Okay thanks. That would be why. I guess I need to set up a second build using the Ion Cannon. Your build has been great for all the quests and cutscenes and chocobo riding, etc. Anyway, thanks again.

    Hello, first I want to say you my upmost respect and gratitude for making this, I wouldn’t know how to do this without your videos. But I was hoping if you could help me out with a problem I’m having, I’ve managed to create my character and start the game but I can’t seem to begin the story quest anytime I talk to the story start npc they won’t talk I’ve made 3 different characters each in the three different regions and they all have this same problem if you have the time would you mind telling me what is wrong and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Please and thank you

      Thanks! If you're using Ioncannon's build it doesn't have any quests scripted. They have a quest build but it's mostly sidequests I think. Here is a link to my build: bitbucket.org/slerplederps/hildabrand-server/downloads/ As far as MSQ on my build Limsa Lominsa is a full walking sim, while the other two are partly done. Now you won't have to start the entire process all over again you would just have to remove your current database in HeidiSQL and start from my 'How to Play in 2022' video at 11:32. Hope this helps!

    The sense of scale is amazing with the 1.0 engine. So immersive and I miss it. Thanks for making this!! You've captured that sense of scale and weight which is what made the 1.0 engine special.

      It's one thing to make it look ultra realistic which would look great and would be great for another project. On my part I really want to keep the same look and feel in whatever 1.0 project I'm working on, and also add new things to it. I'm still in awe when I watch the intro cutscenes to 1.0. Amazing stuff!
