The bass were biting like crazy, and the thrill of feeling those takes one after another was simply unforgettable.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to hit peak bass season here in the Isle of Man, this video captures all of the excitement. I share some tips on gear, conditions, and what made this session so special. Join me as I relive this incredible evening of non-stop action!

Today I caught my PB sea bass at 59cm - I haven't fished for our caught one of these since 20 years ago. Earlier this year I set myself a goal of catching one on a lure and after a dozen sessions, I finally caught one around our #isleofman shores. Bison Gear bungee cords (these were a freebie)

Hey folks Bison Gear sent me a free set of bungee cords to try out on the boat. They didn't ask for me to make a video at all and I don't have any discounts to pass on but for those interested in using bungees on your boat, take a look at pack and see if they're of interest to you. I've since used them a couple times and they're actually very good - I can recommend, and hope they stand the test...

Great video pal, good to see you back. Would you still recommend the carbon pro 400 & 20hp? Cheers
Thanks mate. Yeah that boat combo will do you very well! You'll want to trailer it tho!
Some nice Tope there well done. I like your videos….most informative especially as I’m thinking of getting a SIB
Thank you that's great to hear!
Nice job!!
Cheers mate 👍
Great informative production. Answered a lot of my questions about what trailer to get. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Do you transport your SIB on that trailer? I’m looking to get a SIB and not sure what type of trailer to get
Yes I do!
Is that Ballaugh beach?
On the east mate but they are all round the northern beaches, and even some in the south
Fantastic fishing man especially with the seals keeping an eye on you 😀 excuse my ignorance on your location, im not from the island but do live here and just want to learn knew marks ,is that cranfield ?? Looks an amazing mark for the late summer/autumn for the bass.. also where do i find out catch quota/size ? Any help is greatly appreciated, many thanks 🎣
Thanks mate. You can't go wrong on the northern beaches! You can find quotas at gov.im website. Happy fishing!
@TheReelIsle thank you so much for replying, im learning yeah ive a little day camper set up so gonna go explore all around the island thanks for the info m8 tight lines 🎣
Cheers
Np
Nice video mate, could you tell me what wheels are you using??
Thanks mate, here's a link where I got mine from. I've had 3 sets on 3 boats- excellent wheels. amzn.to/3UiWXVD
Hi - revisiting this video as I’m looking into possibly buying a Carbon Pro, but also buying the separate air deck for the option of not trailering… I know you’ve switched to an Excel Boat now, but I just wondered if you’d still recommend the carbon pro 365? It’d be 48kg without the Alu floor apparently… as ever i’d be taking a bit of a gamble performance wise! On a separate note, wondered if you’d seen or heard about the new Excel Explorer Pro? Interesting boat… I saw a 330/20hp/42kg at the Southampton boat show.
The Carbon Pro is an excellent choice! I would recommend going for the 400 if you go for ali deck as more.stable and worth the extra weight. Otherwise 3.6m ally or air are great
Not been fishing on the beach for a few years . But as i am in Ramsey up north your latest has just given me that urge to dust of the rods and have a go again. just waiting on the tide an weather to suit me.
Hope you found an opportunity to get out with the rods!
@@TheReelIsle was out today all over the same area as you were on the video and not a bite. was there 1 hour before high tide. Tomorrow I will be 2 hours before high tide. hope its not too late in the year. also just ordered savage gear Surface Seaker lures. Was good fun. been a few years since I stood in a cold wind thrashing a lure out dodging the seals and weed. But I have got the bug again. Your video did it . Gave me the kick up the backside I needed . nice to have the whole beach to myself🥶. Next year is going to be better.
@brucecarruthers8675 definitely not too late. They're either there or they're not. Keep at it mate. Great to hear the spark is back!
@@TheReelIsle How many hours before high tide are you fishing ? Been out along Dog mills and up the point and still not a bite. just not sure if i am getting my timing right
@@TheReelIsle YES today caught 45cm Bass on the first cast. Nothing after that but what a lovely feeling letting him go with the hope of catching him again in the future and big enough for the dinner plate. Is great to catch again . Really good buzz
Doesn’t the honwave t40 have thicker PVC for the tubes? And is cheaper
Not sure but there have been some recent quality problem reports of late. Can't confirm that myself. It's a little narrower than the Scout 400 with more of a raised bow. I'm a fisherman so the extra width does me right
Looks to be part of a root cutter/chopper that metal was
Oh you're bang on! Thanks so much- same markings on this one: google Bentall WPA Unchokable root chopper
Great fishing, well done.
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed that nice one👍 i used to love going along that stretch of coast but the seals put me off nowdays
Thanks. Yeah they are a pain in the arse along there.
Well Done, The Seeker strikes again, very seldom fails for me, 3 Seals 2 Snags you did well there.great video.😎🎣
Thanks mate, cracking session - I was waiting for a seal to strip that reel
I hope to bring my boat over to the IOM next year
That'd be brilliant, please let me know I'd you do!
Nice👌🎣🎣🇮🇲🇮🇲
Thanks 👍
Does it have overpressure valves? Thoes black tubes are gonna heat up in the summer
Indeed it does the chambers are baffled with a relief valve too
I see you bought the mercury 20hp ECU and not the Tuhatsu 20hp ECU. Any reason why? The mercury is about $100 more than the tuhatsu 3YL064010.
That was the only option available to me at he time
great video always good to catch a target fish.I put circle hooks on my lures the savage gears are amazing with them and they dont snag the weed as much, had bass take the whole lure not alot to do what ever hooks.Keep up the videos
Thanks mate, I'll check those out too!
I've just picked up exactly the same trailer as yours from red cap and I can say that I'm extremely impressed
They are great aren't they, life saver!
Hi bud, I bought some bison gear straps and I'm really pleased with them, thanks for the tip
Awesome!
How’s the boat still going? Tempted to buy it to replace my quicksilver
Hi Bud, I have recently bought the carbon pro 400 and the same trailer from red cap trailers, they are both absolutely superb, the boat is very stable and spacious so ideal for fishing, I used the code from airborne pirates and got 5% off the boat at boatworld
I sold mine but my friend is still using it!
@@stuartMcCulloch8243looking at the 400 - what engine did you get? Is it manageable for one person to launch etc? Cheers
@BlackRussian31 I've got a tohatsu 20 hp which is big enough, I've bought a trailer as was a bit much settling up and taking down
hey, had a question. Wanted to know if i should get this or an RIB?
Depends on your budget, and whether you'll trailer it. These fold down if you need to.
This is my inexperienced, but the sea didn't look too rough in the video. Was it much worse in real life? Cheers and great vid.
Towards the end of the session it was starting to pick up. I had about 7 miles to get back to the slipway and 2 areas on the route back is subject to turbulent waters, so it was time to go. The camera always smoothes it out
@@TheReelIsle thank you
Can you just remove the restrictor? Shouldn’t the current Ecu be able to adjust fuel trim?
Needs a remap at least
Good to get a bass mate. Have you given up on making videos? 😮
Nah haven't given up mate. We got a golden retriever puppy recently, and work has been hectic. I've only been on the boat once in 12 or 13 weeks, work is busy and the weather has been shocking over here. I did catch a couple bass from the shore last week though - but not enough time to make a video
@@TheReelIsle Cool, you've your hands full then! Hopefully you'll get back at it soon enough, winter fishing might be good! Summers been very poor.. shocking winds all the time! Get that dog trained up on the boat 😄👍
@Barbedhookfishing haha absolutely mate. For now I just have to enjoy the videos everyone else makes ;)
Don’t forget to upgrade your propeller
My 10" is perfect now, previously running a 9"
@TheReelIsle was this due to the upgrade to a 20hp?
@Oakey22 the rpms with my 9" while 15hp were ideal. Once increasing the power, the 9" prop caused higher rpm, so switching to the larger 10" prop fixed that - more torque
Teeth like needles at that age, my Lab chewed half of my house while she was teething, you couldnt leave anything or it was in bits
Oh absolutely, he's well into teething now. 15.5 weeks 22kg. Bones is about the right size lol
Helpful video - thanks. I have found that the stringers are a lot easier to insert if you wet them first. Also, a piece of 2x4 under the transom makes the rear section of the floor easier to slip under the retainers.
Nice tips!
Hi there! You have inspired me and I have just bought a carbon pro and tohatsu 15hp, do you bolt the engine to the transom or just use the clamps? Tia
Love it! Thank you! I just use the clamps
Thanks.. very helpful.. just setting up my carbon pro for the first time in the garden
Enjoy!
what size long you boat ? 3.5 meter ?
4 meter
Does the larger vanguard do this ?
I've not owned the 395, but I do own the Excel Scout 400 and it's not a problem
@@TheReelIsle I’ve actually got the 3.9 explorer and really like it. Just wondered if the bigger vanguards did this or if the issue was limited to the 365
That'll rule an Excell out, thanks for the heads up.
I've since installed some row locks and oars, but aside from that I'm very happy with the boat still today. Plenty other brands out there too!
They all like this?
I can't say that definitely however there were a number of owners who were experiencing the same.
@@TheReelIsle thanks for your reply.
Thanks for all your vids mate they’re great. I really want to get a SIB now! Is your Excel the best one would you suggest?
well done mate, brilliant videos
Thanks mate!
Nice video!
Thanks!
How do you support the engine?
Hi mate, while in transit I use a transom saver. It connects to the trailer with a quick release pin and I ratchet the engine down on it. Doest budge and all load goes on the trailer
@@TheReelIsle thats awesome! Thanks for the info.
That must be scary? So you rode for 5 miles with flat tube?
Yep, 0.9psi when we got back. These boats float well even while low on air, plus they're chambered. Very capable!
Do you use transom saver?
I do indeed mate!
Nice, whats the speed?
This boat with a 20hp will do up to 24mph with just me on, or 21/22 with 2 men
What trailer do you use? Which one would you recommend for 14ft inflatable? Do you think jetski trailer will do?
Hi mate, this my trailer which is ideal for a 4m boat: ua-cam.com/video/W3wR1MYTH9A/v-deo.html Whether a jetski trailer will work for you is dependent on thr frame measurements and existing structure to mount the bunks that'll be required to support the boat. There's no better than purpose built, but if you're handy then modifying an existing chassis is also viable- just keep an eye on spiraling costs
@@TheReelIsle thank you!
With anchoring, what if your anchor gets stuck and you can't unhook it? happened to me in strong current, took me long time to unhook, I already was thinking to cut the rope. Any tricks or tips?
Almost happened to me a couple times too. Easiest method is to have a weak link - a cable tie. In other words your chain attached to the wrong end of the anchor - upside down so it's easy to pull backward. The cable tie connects the chain to the correct end of your anchor. If you get stuck the cable tie breaks and your anchor gets pulled backwards. Failing that, very very very carefully maneuver around in a semi circle so you're upside and then pull it out that way. Idling, no revs whatever- dangerous!
Are you recording from 360 cam?
Yes sir, a 360 cam is superb for this
@@TheReelIsle awesome, I like how you can zoom in and zoom out at different angles, almost looks like someone else is recording you :)
Thanks mate - takes ages to edit but worth it
Hi I just bought an excel vanguard 365 my first ever boat did I make a mistake?
I can only go by personal experience - I'd have chosen a Scout 365 over a Vanguard personally. And I'd chose a Scout 400 over a 365.
where did you buy the long rollers?
I bought the whole trailer mate but link in description. I think extreme sell similar rollers but very expensive
Good day! Thank you for posting this video, I got a 2023 9.9 on dealer recommendation for a smaller boat(I’m not a big boater I’m new to it) and could use more power. I will be doing this soon. Can you provide a link for the ECU? My understanding is the 9.9 is the same as 15 and 20. What prop did you upgrade to? Thank you for the help!
Hello! So happy you've found this useful. The part number listed on the eBay item I purchased is: Mercury: 8M0135817 & Tohatsu: 3RS-06401. The original listing is no longer available I'm afraid so I can't share the link. Good luck!
Nice session ❤mate!
Thanks ✌
