This is a cool old timey tune that I learned from the late great Butch Baldassari. Another favorite version is by David Grier featuring Tim O'Brien on vocals. If you haven't heard it check it out on Grier's album, Hootenanny.

Working on some bluesy sounds on the telecaster. This is one of my favorite Stapleton songs.

#50 of 50 mandolin tunes in 2020. Good riddance to 2020, bring in a new year. The lyrics to this beautifully sappy song are taken from the Scottish poet Robert Burns. I learned this bluegrass version from Bill Keith's album, Something Auld, Something Newgrass, Something Borrowed, Something Bluegrass. This album was released in 1976 and features David Grisman on mandolin and the late Tony Rice o...

#49 of 50 mandolin tunes in 2020. Silent Night has been one of my favorite Christmas songs ever since I can remember. I put together this arrangement in the key of A. The arrangement is straight forward with some crosspicking and tremolo for flavor.

#48 of 50 mandolin tunes in 2020 is a medley of tunes, actually. The tunes are Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Joy to the World, and Go Tell it on the Mountain. I worked these up in the key of A.

#47 of 50 mandolin tunes in 2020. This is a Celtic fiddle tune that I learned from a recording by Craig Duncan. The mode of this tune is A dorian. I'm not super knowledgeable on theory, but that's what I've gathered online. Turns out to be the same notes as the G major scale, but obviously sounds much different than a G major tune due to the underlying chords and the note placement. The tune ha...

This is Adam Steffey's mandolin kickoff to the Alison Krauss & Union Station hit song, Every Time You Say Goodbye. The song is in the key of E. The first time through it is played up to speed, the second is slowed down. You can get the mandolin tablature by subscribing to my Patreon page! www.patreon.com/chrisdawsonmandolin

#46 of 50 mandolin tunes in 2020. This song is credited to AP Carter and was first recorded by The Carter Family in 1933. Since then it's been performed and recorded by greats like Ralph Stanley, Emmylou Harris, and Doc Watson. This version that I learned is a sweet little instrumental take from an album by Mark Howard with Aubrie Haynie on mandolin. The first go around is the straight melody, ...
Man, just found out about this son while watching an episode of Malcom in the middle and had to see if there were some ukelele covers (this is close enough and just amazing!!)
Solid
The Gibson is setup perfectly, friend. Tuned too. This is as good as it gets. Sounding like Jesse Brock!!!
Wow thank you for the compliment!
I just found your videos. LOVE them!! Thanks for sharing. I need to play my mandolin more. I sent this video to a mandolin player friend for her birthday today.
That’s awesome glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Amazing playing!! Great shirt too, where did you find that?
Thanks! The shirt was a gift from a friend, no idea where he got it.
Tutorial!!!!! Thats so awesome
I love this song.

Yep it is, just standard tuning
Wow Beautiful Today’s is My Daughter’s Birthday she will love this!
Tell her I said happy birthday!
Thank You I will
did you transcribe this by ear yourself?
I sure did
Awesome
Thank you
I am overwhelmed by how good you are
Thank you that’s very nice of you to say
Any mando people out there that can explain the fingerwork on the second verse?
The second part is just workin the E minor pentatonic scale (which is same as G major pentatonic) with a syncopated feel. Try slowing the video down, and just play down from the 3rd fret of the E string, 5th and 2nd frets on the A and D strings.
Love it Chris!
Thanks Denise!
Hey buddy, it would be great if you'd do a lesson on this
This is fantastic
Thanks!
excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
What backing track are you using?
It’s Strum Machine. It’s a subscription based thing. It’s cheap still and super versatile. I love it for practice, use it just about everyday.
👍
Nice right hand technique. I find myself watching players right hand a lot to see what they are doing. Good job
Thanks, I appreciate that. I do the same thing
Love it!
Great job!! I wish I could play mandolin like that😊
Thank you that’s very kind!
This is so well played. Just professional! Is that a Gibson F5G or?
Thank you! It is in fact an F5G, 1996.
@@CDawson81 It is ice to know that a musician as good as you is playing the same mandolin I have. Mine is a 2015. You have one of the earliest years, I believe?
@@danstune I love the F5G. Bought this one a few years ago from Elderly Instruments. No regrets about it!
Absolutely amazing I can’t stop watching it!!!
Thank you sir!! 😃
Chris, Thank you for playing it right for me to study and improve by! Is that an F5G? I have one, too!
Glad you enjoyed it! It is an F5G, they’re great, huh?
This is wonderful. I've listened to it probably 20 times already. Great job, my fellow traveler.

How long have you been playing the mandolin? I just picked it up a few months ago, and this is one of the songs that I'd like to learn how to play.
Nice!

Im not really a fan of changing the song that much... the B part was too far gone
