High Plains Hunting
Приєднався 3 гру 2015
We grew up in a small town in Minnesota where we were raised in the outdoors. As time progressed, we both moved to South Dakota where we currently live. These are hunts we have documented over time in the Midwest.

Nice Buck Snort😂
Put your spear way down in the water, you won't miss and stick your tines way back and ruin the meat. You pro's are supposed to know how to fish, you don't know shit. Pike can only see ahead and up, you can slip the spear right behind the head and they don't know it. Besides the refraction goes away when you put the spear way down, less misses and bad sticks.
Do you eat them ?
Yes, Northern are great eating. We fry some and pickle some.
Ditch camera on spear before fish and game starts fining cruelty to game. You made the right decision
Get yourself a Tactacam I-Fish put a weaver mount on shaft an a scope mount that fits the diameter of the round Tactacam I-Fish! I have used them for 4 yrs an works awesome! It’s a lot smaller but has as good or better video than GoPro I have both!
Dude 70 yards at an alert deer. Bad choice. have no fear we all make them bad decisions at some point in the moment hoping to get lucky. In my experience its better to guess low and hope the deer ducks into it. Well mostly im giving you shit.
Fluke deal the coyotes got him that fast. You did nothing wrong. Great hunt.
Get ya a Belle River Spear! They hold fish incredibly well.
was this a guide hunt? if so can you tell me the name of the place... thanks
Brian, this was not a guided hunt. There's a lot of opportunity out there for public land hunts.
Damn, did camera man blow a gasket around the 16 min mark. Nice push
Haha yeah. Unfortunately that was not the camera man
Go home bear! You’re drunk.
Drew a limited draw deer tag for 2023. Will be my first time in South Dakota and hunting mule deer. Actually my first ever out of state hunting trip, I'm from Ohio and will be 51 years old. Do you have any recommendations for where I should go, just looking to see a mature mule deer. Thanks for any info. Love your videos and the South Dakota scenery is heavenly. Absolutely can not wait to get there. Which will be the first or second week of October with my son.
Congrats on the tag, that’s exciting. Without knowing exactly what unit your tag is good for, I would suggest looking over the map to try to find good areas to glass lots of country or specific bottoms. Glassing and covering country is a good strategy. Good luck and enjoy SD.
How many tags did you have?
If you are a resident in South Dakota, you can get a buck tag west river, east river and also get a Whitetail doe tag for a majority of the state.
Go Pro footage does nothing for me. Suspend that Go Pro under the ice somehow I love seeing the approach
Nice shot dude! Stoned him.
One piece of advice is when you spear the pike, let the spear pin them to the ground and just let them sit for a bit. They will try to breathe and will actually suck up sand in their gills causing them to suffocate and kinda die down a bit. You won’t lose as many fish that way 👍
Videos were good ,but deer needed another 3-4 years of age
Agreed, Bruce.
Another great video!! Thanks for taking the time to share these with us. I can't wait to get back out there next year. What bipod was use on the rifle that killed that first deer? I'm looking for a new one and would appreciate your input. Thanks!
Most of use the Harris swivel Bipods
You should get a gaf too to hook the pike under the jaw before they come off.
Your spear is dishing from your go pro.
I absolutely hate the weather in the High Plains.
I love this video! What a fun hunt. What bipod is on the rifle that killed the third buck? I need one.
It is a Harris Swivel!
The rancher will really appreciate you guys stretching his fence. Have a little respect for the guy that makes his living out there.
You guys gotta take your boots off so your boots quit squeaking
The fish you hit with two tines in the skull that then somehow got off is just bizzare. Never seen anything like that in 50 years. However: Is it a SoDak thing to spear one, then just let it sit for a while? I was raised to ALWAYS keep the rope tight. Hit the fish, pull in the slack, pull up the fish. 1-2-3. Not judging, just curious. I haven't speared for quite a while, so I rely on videos like yours to keep me in the loop. Thanks! And keep 'em coming!
nice video
I’ve hunted 20 years just south of there in Nebraska’s Pine Ridge. Killed a ton of bucks there and always surprised by their smaller size compared to other areas of the West.
Yeah its amazing the diet will make them smaller naturally.
was this in the black hills?
This is close to the Black Hills
Nice video, nice to see you did well on the Opener!
local of SoDak here, at first glance I wanna say Slim Buttes. What part of the state is this? great vid!!
Good video. I love SD. I hunted around Custer a few times years ago for whitetails. I intended to come back this year for some badlands muley's but did not stay on top of the rule change and had a tearful moment when I looked at the regs. Been trying to get the family to agree to move to SD, not with any success. Definitely plan to try it again 2023.
Where you from?
@@jasonmunoz7285 New Mexico
@@drested1793 nice! Never been there. I’m from South Dakota. Your family should reconsider lol. South Dakota is awesome, especially if you love to hunt. Obviously New Mexico has great hunting as well! Love it up here tho! Hope you get back here to hunt.
I live in South Dakota too. Some of us are easy to get along with and would love to hunt down in New Mexico hunting elk. Get some of that experience and invite someone down and trade knowledge or guiding.
Nice Work. We subscribed check us out.
Why doesn't South Dakota have more lakes open to spearing
It depends on where a guy goes. There are a lot of lakes closed due to Muskie spawning efforts in fisheries.
@@highplainshunting3002 we have muskies here too and most of ours are open to spearing
I personally wouldn't have taken that last shot with him skylined like that, but good hunt otherwise

16:38 Keepin’ it real!!😂 Spent a couple years in S.D. 30 years ago but never hunted. Love that state!!

"I'm cool with it" 🤣
Where do you get your spears? I can't find any online or locally. Guys don't want to part with them here.
We got our spears at runnings, they usually have a few on hand. Not sure if you have runnings where you are located.
@@highplainshunting3002 Is that a Latko pike spear? Did you put the wooden handle on it?
@@aworker4mi I’m not sure what brand it is! But mine does not have a wooden handle.
Have you had much luck saddle hunting the hills
We have never really given it a try!
what was the length on that pike at 8:42?
That one was around 36 inches
yeah cameras on the spear is a bad idea, unless your spearing like 4ft of water lol.
Agreed
Dam nice fish btw
No measurements, no weights, no footage after the big ones get drug out of the whole.....c’’mon man!!!
Haha yeah kind of forgot to include that, he wasn’t as huge as I thought, I’d say roughly 36”
I have never shot any buck in the black hills less than 200lbs lul.
Interesting! We never weighed it so not sure on the actual size but definitely smaller than any whitetail buck any of us had killed!
@@highplainshunting3002 Ya i hunt a lot around the Meade area. It was still a great vod. A lot of people never experience hunting like we do up here in the black hills.
Oh I have in the Pine Ridge section in Nebraska.
Keep crushin’ em boys!!!
Love the videos but this is getting out of hand. Idk how many times I gotta ask for some meat before I get fed. I will stop being polite if I continued to be ignored #iamhungry
