Shop organization- drilling, driving and mechanics tools.
Get organized! Shop systems and efficiency matter. If you find yourself pawing through a drawer looking for a specific wrench, drill bit, allen key, etc. , you are doing it wrong. Also forget foam inserts in a box that doesn’t ride in your truck, its a waste of space, time and money, just get more tools.

In this video we make a trip to a local wood sawyer and pick up some majestic cedar. Then we mill it up into the top and bottom skins and glue them to the completed frame. I also use the Shaper Origin and Shaper Trace to make a one of a kind hand-drawn epoxy inlay. If you are building a wooden stand up paddle board, I think it's worth considering using the method I tried out here. visit www.jar...

Its that simple, draw a thing, take its photo, cut it with your router. Shaper Trace is shockingly accurate, and is going to be so handy for me as an artist and craftsman.
DIY SUP : part 1

In part one we look at the Jarvisboards.com "All Around" paddle board. This wooden paddleboard frame kit and plans allow you to easily build yourself a SUP. I chose to build my own fin, finbox and handle as well. Once you get your kit, you can get started setting up your workbench. And don't forget to stock up on epoxy from totalboat.com

The new “Trace” from Shaper Tools (creators of Shaper Origin ) will blow you away with its ability to create .svg files (scaleable vector files) in seconds from your own artwork, someone elses, templates, etc. Once the outline is scanned, its ready to send to the software or tool of your choice. Start small, don’t wreck your paddleboard with no technique. Practice makes perfect, so lets get this right. Use a good epoxy like Totalboat high performance, take your time and relax, its not hard to do if you are patient. Fiberglass is a huge asset where you want a nice finish, and some extra strength and stiffness like this surfboard fin. This build is made possible by jarvisboards.com And I...
DIY SUP part 2- fin box

SUP build part 2 - The Fin Box Here I am building the mahogany fin box for the wooden “all-around” stand up paddleboard I am building with Jarvis Boards. I opted for digital plans of the accessories that we will add to the board. This means I will be cutting and making them myself, so… extra fun! I used the Shaper Origin to rout the grooves, and built it in 2 halves, but you could use a regular...

The Froe is a very old traditional tool for splitting wood. More controlled than an axe, and faster than wedges, the Froe is a hand tool you really want for green woodworking.

This is excellent, it’s a shame there aren’t more videos of real curve-drawing devices, most of them are just computer simulations
Thank you! Should I do some more?
That would be cool, perhaps you could try the Conchoid of Nicomedes?
is anybody here who knows where can i buy a frame kit or a plan like thes in GERMAN?

@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell thank you so much. Your channel is invaluable. You seamlessly remove the awkwardness from diy vids. Thanks for your efforts, you're an inspiration
What tenon cutters did you use?
For the legs, I used a homemade cutter. And I used a adjustable antique one I came across for the rest.

Absolutely loved the whole process from start to finish and the way you talked us through the process thanks looking forward to the next Project
Thank you!!!
Wow, it's refreshing to see a paddle board project! With wooden boats and canoes dominating, this is a unique and intriguing build. As a former woodworker who's enjoyed paddle boarding, one time, lol, I'm inspired by this video. Building one myself never crossed my mind until now. Thinking of tackling this project when I retire in 5 years! Quick question: what was the final thickness for the top and bottom?"
Thanks for watching! I think they ended up around 1/4” thick after sanding.
Love the idea. However, title should correctly read: “The best way to store Japanese hand saws. Period.”
100%
Beautifully crafted. Way beyond my skill level but a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words! There are many excellent chairmaking classes out there for all skill levels if you ever feel like giving it a try!
Sup Keith! Love the build. The soft foam sander looks super handy. The thing I learned most from this video is that I need to make sure my tools are sharper haha
Thank you my friend!! It was a fun project for sure.
Your build came across my Threads feed and I just watched it all. Now I want to build one. Would be a great first step before tackling a boat. Nice work. You also sold me on the Shaper.
Awesome!! You really should build one!Tell Jarvis Boards I sent you! And the shaper really is so handy around the shop, that I don’t know what I’d do without it.
What wood species did you use to make the paddle? I've built 2 Jarvis SUPs but haven't made my own paddles yet. Beautiful SUP and paddle.
Thank you! It is ash, light for a hardwood, and very strong as well. Cedar could also be a good choice, but I wanted a fairly stiff paddle, and ash is that.
Boats!!
Gotta love em right?!
We absolutely loved watching this series! Amazing work, Keith!
Thanks for all your help with epoxies, etc! I literally couldn’t do it without you!
Thanks for the great content! How heavy did your board end up?
Thank you! She weighs around 40 pounds!
🔹🙌🏼🔹 I loved watching the glassing process! You really broke it down and shared some pro tips that I plan to try out on my next wood surfboard build!
Thank you! It’s actually pretty satisfying stuff!
@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell Your sanding skills are the best I've ever seen!
This was absolutely amazing loved how the stand-up paddleboard turned out as well as the paddle. You absolutely killed it with this build great job friend.
Thank you so much Lindsay! You did an excellent job on your recent surfboard build as well!
@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell We definitely need to make more surfboards ... way more!
You are very good at your craft, that was very relaxing to watch and a beautiful end result!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m happy you enjoyed it!
That is awesome
Thank you!!
so nice!
Thank you! 😊
Amazing work, Keith! 😍😍
Thank you so much!! Between the thixo, the high performance epoxy and the gleam varnish, Totalboat will keep this boat afloat!
By hand... Only with machines... 🙄
I still used my hands. Handmade clothes are still machine sewn, handcooked food still uses an oven. It’s a grey area I know, but handmade means not made by a machine(robot). This was made by me 😅
@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell handcooked? Now I've heard it all lol
Trabajo el aislamiento térmico y me encanta el trazado de piezas
Me gusta el trabajo
Hey man. I love your stuff alot. Keep up the good work because if u think people dont love it. They do, and i especially. I think big projects will make u a bigger youtuber. Personally i like people making their own canoe or boat from wood. I always wanted to see people build a double canoe😮❤ anyway keep it up man!!!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words! They mean a lot to me. I’d love to build more boats on here for sure.
Good comparison- trying to figure out what to get.. tried AirPods inside some cheap harbor freight cups today and was able to listen to a podcast while running loud equipment for a couple hours - but it was very uncomfortable
It depends on how much noise you are making, I absolutely love my isotunes pro earplug ones, but they don’t block enough sound to run a big planer, or a chainsaw.
A TotalSUP! It is coming along great!
Couldn’t do it without you!!
Very cool! 🔹🤙🏽🔹
Thanks!
🔹😎🔹
It’s been so much fun watching you build the board. Can’t wait for part two I already learned so much from you in part one. You’re doing a great job buddy super proud of you.
Thank you my friend!
Excellent video. Quick and informative. Thanks.
Thanks! That was my goal!
Do you mean wicked as in wicked good?
Sure!
Osam work
Thank you!
I just cut 198 of these darn holes for those self-same plastic router bit holders with my Origin this weekend. Love the helix feature for that. Really should have just used the regular CNC but the drawer insert I was cutting the holes into was too large for it. I used 3/4" MDF and cut to a depth of 18mm with a 1/4" bit. I noticed by not cutting all the way through the MDF that the helix operation left behind a very thin vertical plug which I had to remove with a pair of long nose pliers. Other than that, a few hours of work, and all my router bits are now properly organized.
I’d like to have a gantry cnc router as well for things like 198 holes!
That’s awesome Would be great if they made a larger frame as well?
I agree, maybe when this one proves itself they will go huge!
I guess it also has to do with the limited resolution of the device capturing the image. If you go twice as big, you need 4x more pixels to keep the same level of details.
@@AlainPilon I’m sure you’re right, also You would have to get twice as far away to get it in the frame.
I own one and it’s a fucking amazing piece of kit
You wouldn’t need a bigger frame it’s creates a vector graphic which is scalable without losing quality
what wood is this ? looks awesome !
It is locally grown Ash. Great grain right? Nice and light too.
@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell it sure is a very ny long grain , adding lots of strenght . Thanks for sharing !😁
So cool, I want to make a paddle out of a single piece of wood. I've made some but glued the pieces together. Not sure I have the tools for a single piece paddle.
I think you could do it with a handplane a drawknife a spokeshave and a jigsaw if you don’t have a bandsaw and a jointer like I do. It is a lot of fun to make paddles right?!
Awesome tips - this turned out great.
Thank you! Fiberglass work can be so satisfying right!?
Thank you for this, I've been looking for it but didn't know what I was looking for. If you know what I mean. I just bought it from Lost Art. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Hope you enjoy it! The whole series is excellent, and each book is very different.
Looks like a fallopian tube.
Really?

What a cool design! 😻👏🏽
Thanks!!
That looked so Cool🎉
Thank you!
Looks great Keith
Thank you!!!
Making a paddle by hand, then proceeds to use a whole bunch of machines. Lol
Still made by hand. Making a canoe paddle with only handtools is what you want.
No, all good. It just seemed funny. I hope my comment didn't come off as critical, you did good work and way better than I could. I sit here and watch, dreaming of someday getting off my butt and making something.@@shipwrightskills-keithmitchell
Demystified! Love it, thanks for the tutorial and opening the gateway to many of life’s mysteries!!! :)
It’s easy to overcomplicate this stuff, I prefer to just appreciate it for what it is, a nice harmonious shape. Thanks for watching!
It looks so beautiful - nicely done!!
Thank you! 😊
So clean !!
thanks!!
Looks great! I’ve got a metal one to install but maybe I should make one.
You should make one!!!
