Solo Hiking | Exploring a Wild Gorge
Solo Hiking, exploring a wild gorge. Untracked for the most part, this solo trip took me through a wild gorge, scrambling over boulders, dealing with snakes and searching for that ever elusive camp-site.

Off Track Hiking, Cave Camping & Exploring the Budawang Range
Переглядів 5882 місяці тому
A 3 Day ad-hoc trip exploring some sites from the old Budawang sketch map. After having to change plans on the first day of a 3 day trip, we decided to explore a spot from the old sketch map. The decision was made to do this via the path less travelled, which kept us away from the masses on what was a busy long weekend. This turned out to be a really enjoyable trip that left me keen to explore ...
Silent Hiking in the Jagungal Wilderness
Переглядів 4443 місяці тому
North of the Main Range of Kosciuszko National Park lies the Jagungal Wilderness. At the right times of year, this can be a stunning playground. The wrong times, whether that be during summer or winter it can be harsh and inhospitable. For this hike the timing was perfect, a mild weather window, epic sunrises and silence. 3 Days hiking in silence, making peace with my own thoughts and rechargin...

Finally! My second hammock camping trip! I was so keen for this trip, a quick look at some maps, Google Earth and I just went for an explore, not really knowing what I would find.

With a renewed focus on reducing my base weight, on this Solo overnight hiking trip I talk through my tarp set up, camp alongside a beautiful creek and get repeatedly scared by snakes. A great trip!
Hiking The Overland Track | Winter
Переглядів 7374 місяці тому
Hiking the Overland Track in winter offers the opportunity to escape the crowds and booking issues, but it does have it's trade offs. With conditions often being less than ideal, transfers harder to organise, pack weights increase, the cold can be hard to escape and you need to be confident and prepared to deal with adverse conditions. Sometimes you get lucky (depending on the experience you ar...
What's in my pack Winter 24 | Gear Load Out

Filmed in a hotel room post hike, this is a one take ramble about gear. What did I pack, how did it perform and what would I change. I'm curious to hear if you have a favourite bit of kit that you just can't do without, if so pop it in the comments.
Winter | Solo Hike

In this video, I head out for a 4 Day Solo Winter Hike in A.C.T. I love hiking in this area with it's enjoyable mix of open trail, woodland and snowy peaks. The weather window was great, and with temperatures dropping down to about -10c overnight it was a great opportunity to test out my new winter sleep system.
3 Day Hike | Nature | Peace and Quiet

Exploring another new area we spend 3 days hiking along a beautiful river system. The silence here was profound, with limited aircraft traffic and zero other noise pollution this is how being out in nature should feel.
Sandfly Valley | Hiking in New Zealand's Aspiring National Park

If dressing up like a Bee Keeper is your thing than this is the hike for you. Stunningly beautiful, this area is breathtaking with so much jaw dropping scenery it borders on overwhelming. Taking the time to enjoy said scenery though is challenging. As soon as you stop moving the onslaught of sandflies begins and is relentless. How you manage this has a big impact on your enjoyment and how much ...

First Time Hammock Camping

I've often wondered about hammock camping and finally decided to give it a go. So I picked up a Kammok Mantis all in one Hammock tent, spent a couple days on UA-cam trying to learn all the Do's and Don'ts about hammock camping and then set off for an overnight trip in the Blue mountains. I don't see too many people out there in Hammocks, if you're a hammock camper it would be great to hear from...
Du Cane Range | Tasmania | A Rugged & Beautiful Multi-Day Hike

I'd not been to this part of Tasmania, now I'm keen to head back. This rugged and beautiful landscape made for one of the more stunning multi-day hikes I've ever done. On this trip we spend 5 days exploring the southern end of Cradle Mtn - Lake St Clair national park. There is a reason people rave about this area.
Solo Ultralight Hike in Pagoda country

On this Solo Hike I head through ancient rock pagodas, along sandstone cliffs and stunning canyons. This landscape feels prehistoric, giant tree ferns tower in the canyons surrounded by conical rock pillars formed by millions of years of erosion. It is a maze, and exploring these landscapes is often confusing resulting in countless wrong turns or paths leading to dead ends. The result is you ne...
Ultralight Solo Hike | I've not camped anywhere quite like this |
Переглядів 84211 місяців тому
I've not camped anywhere quite like this. On this Solo Hike I head along a river system teeming with wildlife that creates a manicured lawn like off track hiking experience. Along the way I try and find out what the hype is about with closed cell foam sleeping mats and camp under a tarp in spots unlike anywhere I've camped in the Australian bush.

Nice video 👍
Thanks!
Great video, thanks for sharing your trip with us 😊
Cheers. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome video
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it.
Gosh. No wonder you were tired. Those gorges were seriously debris strewn. The side one you explored looked spectacular. And what a beautiful looking snake. (I can say that because I’m watching it on YT and not as close as you actually were 😅.). Nice start to 2025!
Haha, yeah, that snake was a bit of a surprise. I didn't even know it was there until I looked down to pick up my trekking pole. The snakes here are quite beautiful, and it's great to see them under the right circumstances.
Happy new year. Hope its a blessed one for you. Looked like a nice trip
Cheers, a hiking trip is always a great way to usher in a new year. I hope yours started well also.
Beautiful gorge. Interesting snake pose at the end. When you say hot, what sort of air temperature do you mean? 30, 35?
I actually didn't check the temperature, maybe that was a good thing. 😅 it felt low 30's but not much respite from the sun, it was humid, and bush bashing and scrambling is hard work so it felt pretty oppressive.
Outstanding solo hike man! Area looks and feels just incredible!
Love how much appreciation you show to Aussie content creators. Hopefully, you get a chance to visit one day
🙂 My back yard too, glad you enjoyed it. Can get very chilly up there! Nicely done, thanks for sharing ✌🏻
It's a very beautiful backyard, love it out there
Looks like another awesome adventure. I don't think I have done any exploring in this area.
Thanks mate. It's a stunning area and worth an explore when you have the time for it
Love the fact that you managed to find that one cave from an old map. Like a treasure map. Taking your time to explore and the re-explore an area is a great way to learn all the mix-and-match possibilities to ‘design’ future trips knowing how long things take or how easy/hard they are. And getting away from the crowds, especially on a long weekend, is the reward! Looking forward to seeing more of this area. Great video as always 👍.
Thanks mate. There are a few areas in NSW that you can acquire these old hand drawn maps for. They are pretty amazing and offer some insights that aren't displayed on the current maps. I always love exploring this area, so definitely keen to get back and explore more
Nice video 👍🙂
Cheers!
@campfirejesus 👍🙂
Its always great to break trail and go exploring. A place I haven't ventured to yet, but looks amazing!
The budawangs are definitely one of my places to explore and definitely worth the trip if you ever get the opportunity
What a find that cave is! I'd love to do a camp there. Great video! New sub from us.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Good to watch, the Budawangs are are a fantastic playground.
Thanks, I love the Budawangs feel like it's been a while since I'd been there. Looking forward to getting back there again.
Thanks - I really enjoy your videos. You go on some good adventures and have a nice calm way of being out there. I think i know that cave!
Thanks, I appreciate that. There are so many caves out there, and I had been wanting to explore that area for quite a while, was good to finally get out there.
That cave looks like a gem. Great find. Your audio is surprisingly good given how windy it was 👍
Yeah, it was a really enjoyable trip, considering it was far from the original plan. I was a bit surprised with the audio also especially since I didn't have my microphone with me the whole time
Stunning location. Thanks for sharing!!
Cheers mate, was great to have a nice enough weather window to be able to camp in that location and enjoy that sunrise
Bring back the voice
Haha, the voice will be coming back
Wow! Awesome scenery and loved your filming. Well done!
Thanks Sam 😊 I was really pleased with how this one turned out and was quite lucky to get such a nice weather window
Great video and stunning scenery - thank you. How's the Nemo mat holding up?
Thanks 😊 I've taken the Nemo mat on quite a few trips now, and it is holding up well. It does feel very delicate though and so I treat it accordingly.
Oh man, beautifully shot. So well done. Fabulous open country and big skies. Funny though, the whole ‘silent’ thing took a bit of getting used to. So used to you telling us what’s going on, especially when you’re bush bashing or maybe changing plans. Felt a bit like we’d had an argument on the walk and you’d stop talking to me 😂.
😆 that's too funny!
🤣
Beautifully shot with no sound but breeze and birds . Great work.
Thanks 😊
Great video! Beautiful hike with a perfect weather.
Cheers mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it
From someone who can't do this no more,I'm over being envious.Just full of awe and eager anticipation at what a man with a strong pair of legs and a camera can bring.Mother Nature Rules.Well done 👍
Thanks Malcolm, greatly appreciated
I admire the commitment to filming that first river crossing from both banks. Must have had cold legs by the time that was all done!
Lol thanks mate that actually means a lot. I actually went about a third in and came back from both banks. The middle section of the river was a bit deeper than what was on video, and with how fast it was flowing, I wasn't keen on doing that part twice. Oddly enough, the second crossing felt colder and was actually painful to go back and get the camera.
@campfirejesus good insight 😊 such a peaceful watch, thanks! Need to get up to Jangungal for some bikepacking I reckon.
It's a beautiful part of the world, but if you don't get there before the heat kicks in the March flies are brutal
Been thinking about doing something similar to you but with more mentions about scriptures as something to engage with the audience, Would love to reach more lost people for Jesus in His word. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to hiking and camping in comparison to most but hey, I could call my channel "The Narrow path" as a journey of learning to walk with God as I include the audience in a fellowship kind of manner. God Bless you mate !.
Cheers mate. I'd say go for it, get out there and get amongst it. As for your confidence level regarding the hiking, just start small on well maintained tracks and build from there. Alternatively explore joining a bush walking club to gain some skills or do a navigation course. Goodluck!
As you know, I love the hammock set up. Best nights sleep in those. Great location and so accessible. Shame about the idiots that spoil our beautiful locations - the downside of accessibility.
Cheers mate. Sadly, you are not wrong on the accessibility comment
Wow! Great filming and stunning location. The kiss on the rock got a like from me 😊
Thank you. It was such an enjoyable trip and it's nice to show nature a bit of love ❤️
nice little overnighter cool overhangs . hammocks are great imo . check out the DD hammocks . great quality great value for money . I've done heaps of mods to mine . i've been meaning to put a vid up about the mods i've made to them . if you can manage with your hammock to string an internal ridgeline you can then use that to hang heaps of stuff off . comes in pretty handy . happy camping !
Cheers, I'll check out those hammocks. I don't need an actual ridgeline with that tarp, but no reason why I couldn't rig one, I've definitely seen people use that method and it seems handy.
@@campfirejesus I meant a ridgeline inside your hammock above your head where you sleep on the inside of the fly mesh . if you can manage to rig a bit of paracord or something there . yeah a ridgeline for the tarp will give you some more options too
Thanks for the tips . I’m over 60 and my old hammock set up just doesn’t work anymore .Looking forward to upgrading. Cheers
Upgrades are always exciting, I love the whole process of researching gear and then finally deciding and testing out new toys
Thats a big thumbs up from me,commentry improving.
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it
what gaiters are you using , are they snake proof and light ?
The gaiters I was wearing on this trip were the Sea To Summit Quagmire gaiters. I doubt they claim to be snake proof, but they are a heavy canvas and would likely offer a good level of protection against things like Eastern Brown Snakes etc
@@campfirejesusI use these as well. Had them for almost 4 years and they are still going strong. I lost one of the press studs but quickly and cheaply got that replaced at a shoe repairs.
@@AlexsAustralianAdventures The press stud issue is quite a common one. My pair are very much on their last legs and due for a replacement
What a fun trip - that spot looked great. That big horizontal branch would have been great for a little swing! Another use for a hammock?! Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks, I'll have to keep the swing concept in mind
Thanks so much Campfire Jesus. Another beautiful one. Nothing beats those river swims! I was wondering if you use the Sawyer Squeeze with your Cnoc gravity system? Also I’ve been wondering (for a while now 😂) what do you carry in those pockets on your backpack arm straps? It’s so true what you said about every stick looking like a snake. Looking forward to your next. Edit…I just watched your previous video ‘What’s in my pack’ which answered my question about your water system. Do you think about the quality of the water supply and wonder where it flows from before deciding to use/filter it?
Thanks, Petra. I'm glad you liked the video and also that you got something out of my post hike hotel room ramble about what was in my pack 😆 In regards to water, I try and take into account the source/quality of the water etc, but I filter absolutely everything. There are just so many variables that come into play regarding potentially contaminated water. For how little time and effort it takes to filter it, I would just rather be safe than sorry.
@@campfirejesus thanks so much. Agree with you there about so many variables.
Beautiful river valley and gorgeous riverside camp. Enjoyed the explainer on the tarp set up. The fire was a nice touch and glad you got to relax and recharge. Jealous at the lack of sandflies but not the snakes 😅.
Thanks mate! That last snake scared the hell out of me!
Awesome mate. Ive been for a day walk down that river. I had to turn around just near your first camp spot. Cant wait to get back there, will take a tent next time 👍
Thanks mate. I hope you manage to go back one day
Wow, loving the channel mate, just tuning in from the UK. Also just subscribed to give my Support. From a fellow UA-camr 😉👍
I'm glad you're enjoying the channel mate. I'm hoping to spend some time in the UK next year, I'll check out your channel. Thanks 😊
Great location and really love the creativity in joining the systems to make an effective sleeping system for the conditions. Thanks for taking us along for your chilled adventure. I do the same thing with my gators - they are really handy for ‘door mats’ and keeping things clean and sand free.
And you really know how to find the snakes!
Thanks for tagging along mate
I sure do! Actually jumped in the water rather than step on the last one, scared the hell out of me
Another great one - cheers. I can’t remember if I’ve said it before, but I have used a similar setup and use air mat n thin foam mat on outside underneath of the bugnet Bivy to help increase internal space. (Also additional small string loop on the four corners to allow for mat height, plus use a ridge line with prusik knots to the two bugnet peak ties) cheers again!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, mate. Prusik knots are a great idea for ridge line attachments. I've not used that bug net in that way yet, but I'll definitely bear that in mind when I do, thanks.
what a great spot! thanks for sharing man
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it
Nice gear set up, and great point on how to pack a frameless pack. No dead space.
Thanks. I agree, How you pack a flameless pack can make or break your experience with them
Hi CJ. Thanks for your fabulous channel. I tried the Feathertail -6 degree quilt last weekend in the mountains and can't believe how comfortable and warm it is. A great option for a side-sleeper.
Thanks mate. Nevegear makes some great stuff. I'm glad you enjoyed the quilt, it was definitely a purchase I was quite happy with.
Hello, why are you called Campfire Jesus ?
Hi Phillip, that's probably a long story. Initially the nickname Jesus was given by team mates when I played football and it's just evolved through various stages since then. The current incarnation was given beside a campfire in the Blue Mountains
Must be one of the great iconic Aussie treks. Thanks for showing us. You coped with the inclement weather with your usual grace and good humour. Absolutely loved the peaks (Basalt?) and the views you got. Well worth the effort. Can definitely feel the tension between wanting to be away from the crowds and the huts despite them being a respite from the conditions. It’s the same for the Great Walks in NZ. Great facilities but must be shared. Glad you got at least one night in your beloved tent. Certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the huts if only to get an idea of what they are like.
Thanks Hamish. I would say Basalt, but I've not looked that up. I did intend to film some of the huts as most of them are quite nice, but I'm very mindful of the impact my behaviour has on other people's experience and as there were always people in the huts I just decided not to film. I know huts play a big part in the hiking culture of NZ and they definitely have their place, but takes a bit for me to come to terms with as it's not the nature experience I often go for.
Awesome video - love seeing the terrain and vegetation across Australia. Hoping to get down to Tassie next year for a multi day hike!
Thanks! Tasmania is a beautiful part of the country, I hope you manage to get down there
Great video. I’m still yet to do the full overland. Many Abel’s I still need to tick off in the area.
Thanks mate! So many great places to go down there. I may have to jump on the Abel bandwagon at some point
Absolutely stunning. So much ‘wow’ indeed. Definitely put that one onto the bucket list. The views from the high peaks were epic. You must have felt like the only person/people alive up there, if not a little bit scary in that snow. Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate. Yeah the peaks were definitely highlights, but the whole area is beautiful
stunning mate, thanks so much for taking us a long.
I'm glad you enjoyed it mate
So much WOW! Yes!
Haha yes SO much!
Thank you for sharing. Take care 😊
