Rockscale Designs Ti scales?
@@joshuabriggs7114 original AWT aluminum scales
I want any CruCarta model eventually. I just can’t invest that kinda money in something I don’t have the skills yet to sharpen. But honking I may just buy it and get a Worksharp finally.
Spy27 is much tougher than 20cv.
Sub'd 👍
I'm late to the game on the Manix 2... but the last couple months got a CruCarta, then a LW Rex-45 atter that. The LW has a white handle with satin blade...at first I wasn't too keen on the white, but it grew on me. Plus it was less $ than the base model. Ended up getting another to squirrel away for the boys Christmas gift. And I put the Crucarta away for special occasion. Oh well better late then never. Diggin your aftermarket scales...👍
Nice review and closeups 👍
Are the knife scales interchangeable?
What stone do u take ur maxamet to?
@@johndenver5029 does great around 6-800 grit. But still maintains a good toothy edge even when polished over 1000 grit in my experience.
Manix 2 is favorite Spyderco, possibly my favorite knife of all time. I prefer the g10, but don't mind the frn lightweight atall, all my lightweights are pinned, but I'm really wanting to try these different scales their coming out with. I'll have to buy a new manix to do so.... but I'm okay with that! Nice video
Spiderco is crap product ....
Says the village idiot
Also, the 240 you mentioned is in FEPA grit….which is way different than what standard we use in USA
@@Alejandro0__123 yes the ratings are different. But the F240 is fairly similar to a DMT coarse diamond plate. Theres a great chart on gritomatic that compares them with lots of other stone types.
Larrin guessed it was spray form but Artisan said it was something else. We already knew what it was before Larrins video because it was disclosed already from someone in china in the industry. Larrin is okay but no where near great at heat treatment.
@@tacticalcenter8658 idk what the point of your comment is. Are you just shitting on larrin or trying to claim its not spray form? His best guess is its spray form andi have no reason to doubt his opinion on it.
@@steel2stone both.
I got a set of black AWT type 3 scales on my Manix 2 LW Salt too. These scales are very comfortable and solid, and the fit with the blade is perfect. This is now my favorite knife. Do you know if there is an aftermarket ball cage that will fit with these scales? Anyway, nice vid.
@@dengised321 appreciate that. Yea flytanium.com sells them i believe.
@@steel2stone Yeah, Flytanium generall makes great stuff, but I've seen reports from other UA-cam'ers that the Flytanium cages cause the action to stick on the AWT scales, and I've heard people on Reddit say that the AWT LW scales in particular do not work well with the Flytanium cages. I was just wondering if you had any experience with that. I'll probably just leave the plastic one in there. Thanks.
@@dengised321 oh ok. Yea i can't speak on that I've never bought one from them.
A2? Nah... A+ 😂
Very nice
Crispy edges 🔥👊🏼
What grit and strop level did you finish on?
@@turing2376 finishing stone was an 8 micron diamond stone..no stropping on this edge.
@steel2stone hmm, no strop, will there be an accompanying video?
@@turing2376 when i made the video it hadn't been stropped yet. Ill likely test it one day. And make a video of it.
Looking good brother 👊🏼
AWT knocked it out of the park. Not sure what took spyderco so long to move to screw together construction on the lw’s but glad they came around.
You can keep magnacut. The steel choice should stay in the salt series specifically the way they are with lw scales. Those ti scales would be better suited to a different steel IMHO.
Good to know, thanks. The only problem with spyderco doing it is that it would probably end up costing twice what you spent, at least. So sick of price gouging these days... Anyway, mainly just commenting to support the effort. - Have a good one
I agree brother 👊🏼
Another benefit to not chasing mirror finishes. Save money on stones. 600 grit diamond for high carbide steels or 1000 grit waterstones for simple steels and kitchen knives
They look great brother 👊🏼
She’s a beaut indeed. Nice work
@@edc4fun 🙏
Looks like a great blade brother and I really like the scout carry sheath 👊🏼
@@glockgaston2922 thanks brother
Looks like a nice one brother thanks for sharing 👊🏼
Thanks for the video. Mostly commenting to support the effort. You made me reconsider at first, but the cons kind of added up - especially the grip. I do think it's a cool idea though and the overall design is well done. I'll have to stick with my nightshade for now. In general, my knife buying has really decreased since the price hikes ‐ and i already had plenty of knives... Still waiting to find my perfect knife with magnacut...may have to go custom eventually. Anyway, keep up the good work.
@@dylanemeraldgrey thanks for watching. Everything is so expensive now. Knife prices are getting absurd though from some of these companies.
I have actually not seen this one. Very interesting. I still have a couple of unused Surefire knives. There is one that I could see using this too. It would have made it more useful. Hmmm. Got me thinking now.
Bruh u scarin me for a min, its supposed to shave hair without digging into ur skin or even rubbing on ur skin, dont hurt urself...
Nice little knife and I like the one with k390 but not for 233 bucks but it’s still a nice knife nonetheless. Thanks for sharing brother 👊🏼
Looks like a good place to go fishing brother 👊🏼
@@glockgaston2922 its a decent one for sure
A little on the pricey side... describes a lot of their knives these days...seems like they followed benchmade. Benchmade, never again for me, but i can't quit Spyderco just yet 😅 i think the k390 endura, and the like are still decent price wise.
@@dylanemeraldgrey yea a bit pricey for that one may be the understatement of the year
do you have shopping link for all the sharpening stone/ diamond and leather? thanks in advance
@@barberismeable sure, Heres the diamond plate - amzn.to/3Sq2hW9 Heres some good stropping compound amzn.to/3SkMW9h The diamond resin stones are from gritomatic.com
Probably underrated because only one company uses it... And that company nails the HT on all the best steels available. I put a screaming edge on my endura wharnie in k390 and swore I wouldn't buy another knife til it dulls.... So it may be awhile 😂 but next is a pm3 in spy27 or a lw magnacut.
Looking forward to the testing of the different steels and seeing what differences they have as far as edge retention and toughness goes. Thanks for sharing brother !!
mayoral
Good lookin' knife. I haven't followed the current data, but i remember there was lack of clarity about the optimal HRC number for magnacut, all things being equal (which they rarely are of course). When i left off, people seemed to think it was between 62 and 64. I imagine Larin (sp?) has probably weighed in by now. If your heat treat is good and you hit 62 it probably doesn't matter much, but i guess i was wondering if everyone came to a general consensus on a max number.
@@dylanemeraldgrey theres a pretty large jump in edge retention at 63 from what i remember. Tougher at 62. Ill probably run some at different hardnesses and test them
@@steel2stone sounds like a plan. 👍🤙
Looks great too
@@edc4fun thank you
Counterpoint: Once you stop buying what everyone tells you "real knife collectors" should own, you'll discover your own preferences and start enjoying your collection a whole lot more.
@@CNYKnifeNut im not telling anyone what they should or shouldn't buy. All im saying is if you like knives you should try one. Its not that serious.
I love mine. A friend bought a fake one on Amazon and it was trash, so just have to make sure you’re getting from a reputable seller.
Just buy a lighter like a normal person 😅
And what's the hrc?
What's the behind the edge thickness?
This one is about .01 bte and 61hrc
They de-burr quicker at 64hrc, I personally love aeb-l at a higher hrc
Man you are sharpening exactly like me 😊! I have a stone holder but still hold the stone's in Hand. And these Venev stones are my favorite! Greetings from Europe edit: love the knife, look awesome! Do you still make l them
Thank you. I love the venevs too. I make knives occasionally when i have time..
Good video brother. I like that you’re able to sharpen ambidextrously. It’s a skill I haven’t mastered yet. You ended up with a extremely keen edge in short order. Thanks for sharing brother 👊🏼
weak ass handle in my opinion.i wanted cru wear but i hate micarta i have to buy different scales,id buy more cruwear but the crappy scales hold me back
Just got one last night finally
I got some Gunny juice right here in my knife-hand.
These chinese knives are cheap. they get cheap HT as well. So, this is not the full potential of this steel.
Very very good video!!!!
