Hey, could you run some edge stability tests on the steel? Z-max is supposed to be as tough as s30v. But at much higher hardnes which makes a great hardness-toughness balance. I wonder how good it will perform compared to k390. K390 is about 50% tougher but is also 3hrc softer.
Great video, as usual. As far as the edge angles, I would have just thought that the inclusive angle would give similar results regardless of which side had what angle. But I guess there could be some other factors as well such as how that steered the cutting path and difference in resistance based on approach angle or such that might impact results.
Agreed. Thats kind of my view on it. Atleast within a few degrees i dont think it makes much difference. Although ive got no numbers to back it up.. yet
I believe an asymmetrical bevel does lead to premature dulling. When cutting certain material you can feel the angle of the edge fighting you when you are using for example a chisle grind. It seems to dull faster. I believe because of the extra strain of fighting your arm when cutting. I know chisle grinds are an extreme example of asymmetrical edges but the result should remain the same just to a lesser extent.
I looked for an article. Didnt see one. Maybe i missed it. Ill be honest ive never heard of rex86 though. Alpha knife supply compared it to maxamet. So thats what i compared it to. I think some others are gonna do 15dps. So thatll be cool to see the diffefence. Could jump way up. But who knows.
@@lindboknifeandtool it seems very similar to maxamet to me especially sharpening. Never tested maxamet though so idk how it compares with my edge at the same geometry. Maybe ill get another blade in maxamet and test it.

Thank you for doing this testing!
I've come back here today, to check and see if you ever made a set of scales for this knife yet?
No I haven't made any yet. I have some material just haven't got around to it yet.
Ok. Thank you @@steel2stone . What did you end up buying for it?
@@SteveKluver I got some canvas mixarta I'll probably use on it
That's the way to roll, @@steel2stone! That's exactly what I used also. I went with natural, so it's like a light brown.

I guess the extreme example would be to test a single bevel knife vs double bevel but with same inclusive angles. That might be interesting.

Eventually ill even them out and test it to see what the difference is.
Knifesteelnerds stated it as analogous to Rex 86.
And I’m glad you’re trying the uneven bevels. A little experimenting goes a long way.

@@steel2stone I use zknives app and z max isn’t on there. Regardless, a toned down, finer, maxamet seems very compelling.

Bruh u scarin me for a min, its supposed to shave hair without digging into ur skin or even rubbing on ur skin, dont hurt urself...
